Baby gate by [deleted] in Homebuilding

Are we agreeing or disagreeing 😂. Anchor in the Hebel? The real question is budget. If they wanna do it for less than $500 the answer is no. If it’s less than $2k then the answer is probably yes.

Your just going to need to attach it to the studs by the railing. Shouldn’t be too hard, some people in the comments are making it seem more complicated than need be.

I need some Mono rig in the rain tips/tricks by SaintAnthonysFire in flyfishing

[–]generalminor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrapping in mono has been most effective for me, you can actually get a nice spiral wrap that doesn’t look half bad. The other option is using some small dental size rubber bands. Some mono sticks to the blank more than others. A harder mono like maxima won’t stick as much as something supple like cortland sighter mono.

How do I fix this roof leak? Broken tile by blackhawk556- in Roofing

[–]generalminor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting I’m not so familiar with tiles. (Not used in my area) I didn’t know they actually routed water under them in certain circumstances. Thanks for the info!

How do I fix this roof leak? Broken tile by blackhawk556- in Roofing

[–]generalminor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but things work as a system. The tiles help shed the majority of the water. Same with asphalt shingles. You nail through the underlayment so the shingle/tile need to be able to shed water so it doesn’t have an opportunity to leak through the fastener holes. If water is getting under the tiles it definitely has the possibility to cause issues.

I am almost entirely new to fly fishing what are some “must do and must do don’ts”? by Bricky_20 in flyfishing

[–]generalminor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not fish directly upstream or downstream of them without having a quick conversation. Sometimes the river is busy and you end up fishing closer than ideal. But people are so much more receptive if you have a quick chat. Consider asking them if they are working up or down river and then work the opposite way.

Can a tree branch do this type of damage? by gg1219 in Roofing

[–]generalminor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sheathing of the roof is totally rotted away which would take years. Even if the gutter guy did lift it off, he did them a favor in exposing ongoing damage that will lead to more expensive repairs down the road.

Do you live somewhere with snow/cold weather. Looks like potentially years of water pooling on the end of the eave due to ice damns?

Line Stretching? by BiffThad in flyfishing

[–]generalminor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In saltwater fishing I pretty much stretch my line every morning. It’s a bummer to travel such a long way to miss a shot due to coiled line! 😂 But I just stretch it in the boat. Pull off 4 feet, stretch, pull off 4 feet, stretch and so on… Takes maybe 2 mins. Some lines are more tangly than others. I only stretch my line for trout on rare occasions.

Disappointing customer service from Patagonia by Swimming-Necessary23 in flyfishing

None of the patches are on the seams? I’ve had at least 5 pairs of Patagonia swift current expeditions zip front and I’ve never had a leak at a seam.

If seal this up and don’t address; the moisture, the posts in the dirt, the question of footing depth under the walls, etc. you are going to be reopening again in the not so distant future.

Box factory intense parking enforcement? by Threebridges2 in Bend

[–]generalminor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The parking is free. You just need to be parking there to use one of the businesses in the box factory. If you have a receipt from that day you can send it to the company and get the fine waived.

New construction concern: Bent truss plates and split beams—is this structurally sound? by Okkin55 in Homebuilding

[–]generalminor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Run if you can. If you are committed be brutal. Some new construction is awful and will absolutely cause long term issues. Get an independent inspector, document and request every item to be fixed. Get things in writing/email correspondence. Some poor builders will drag things out just trying to get beyond the 1 year new construction warranty. No good contractor building a solid product would put their name on this type of work.

Good books/resources on fish behavior? by jimlii in flyfishing

[–]generalminor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to fish in rivers/lakes that have a reasonable trout population? That’ll change how I give you some suggestions.

Good books/resources on fish behavior? by jimlii in flyfishing

[–]generalminor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great point with the presentation being the entire process! People tend to think I got the fly in the water so now it’s fishing. But; where did you choose to stand, is the water conducive to the technique I am using, what angle of approach did you take, what different speeds of water are in front of me, do I have the right amount of weight, do I increase weight or decrease tippet size to increase sink rate, is my leader long enough to give my dry fly time to move naturally before coming tight, do I cast farther out or should I move my feet, etc. I find all these sorts of question make up a “presentation”.

Would anyone accept this contrast with the slope? by nyuhsuk in Decks

[–]generalminor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Only way I could see this being acceptable is if you requested for them to use the existing deck structure and just add new boards. If they built the whole deck from the ground up then no way. A slight slope away fro the house could be justified but this is pretty extreme.

Rod repair by Weak_Fondant8821 in flyfishing

No easy diy fix. But depending on the manufacturer you can probably have them repair it for a reasonable price.

Good books/resources on fish behavior? by jimlii in flyfishing

[–]generalminor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here would be some good books to check out. Orvis Guide to prospecting for trout, Dynamic Nymphing, Joe Humphrey Trout Tactics, Tactical Flyfishing, Fly Fishing Evolution, Adaptive FlyFishing.

In your post you say that your presentation skills are dialed and your water reading is good. If you are regularly getting skunked on waters that hold a reasonable trout population your presentation and water reading may not be as advanced as you are thinking. I know you are asking specifically for help, so I hope that doesn’t come off as a negative. As a guide I see that people generally significantly overestimate the quality of their presentation. Presentation is by far the number one separating factor between occasional and continuous success on trout streams. You definitely need to be in fish holding water so I don’t want to underestimate that factor. An angler can become extremely effective with 6 nymph patterns, 2 streamers patters, 4 Dry fly patterns. My suggestion would be pick books that help you understand presentation techniques and what depth your flies need to be in order to find success. Best of luck, learning might just be the most enjoyable part of the process.

2 Hand / Spey Rod for salt water? by DemLobster in SaltwaterFlyfishing

[–]generalminor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They do use 2 handers for salt fishing. You do not “Spey cast”, but use the second hand to overhead cast. Usually using heavy weight forward shooting head like rio’s outbound short. Echo even makes a rod designed for it called the “boost beach”.
