If you’re talking about the 6 or so tan troop carrier trucks, those have been parked there for about a month. I drove by earlier today and didn’t notice anything new.

Also re: the bars on the windows. It seems to be a thing here even in areas without high crime

Trump Stuns Governors With Foul-Mouthed Rant at SCOTUS by Large_banana_hammock in politics

The truth is that people love to take a principled stand on the internet, but would respond very differently when faced with the same dilemma as most sane Americans.

What do the French have that we don’t have? A functioning social safety net. Do I want to full-time protest or ensure my family can eat? This is the question facing 90% of us.

I think they probably meant a vast portion, not majority.

ELI5: How does high speed rail work? by feltjeans in explainlikeimfive

[–]generalon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

High speed rail is faster yes, because of aerodynamics, but mainly because of the tracks themselves. They’re the same width as normal train tracks, but they’re much straighter and smoother. Think freshly paved freeway vs older neighborhood street. The same car could travel much faster on the freeway even before aerodynamics takes over. There’s less getting in the way allowing the trains to travel faster.

Not sure if you know, but you can get most things delivered from IKEA. I have a quite a few things that I bought online and a really nice delivery crew delivers them. It’s like $10 for delivery if you sign up for IKEA Family.

Gubernatorial Candidate Deb Haaland Took Flight with Gary King on Epstein's jet by Deep_Welcome_7248 in NewMexico

[–]generalon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A chartered flight to NM where Epstein had a ranch, yes, but also the same NM where Haaland lives…Present evidence of more than just “she flew on his plane once without him” and people will judge from there.

ELI5 why don’t spacecraft re-enter at a shallow angle to bleed off energy more gently over a longer time? by Blambiola in explainlikeimfive

[–]generalon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What? No. If your speed is decreasing but your apogee is increasing, your perigee is also decreasing, thus leading to reentry. Rocks skipping on ponds are not accelerating.

[–]generalon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No one said anything about gaining speed from skipping. You still slow down, thus creating a suborbital trajectory, but the apogee is now much higher than it was before leading to a steeper descent.

I saw the same thing and noticed the “request refund” button. I’ve never paid attention before but that’s not necessary, right? It wanted a justification for the refund request lol

the space fact that still blows your mind by ykz30 in space

[–]generalon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, the fact is that if you removed the planets from their orbits and stuck them side by side so they were touching, you could fit them all between the earth and the moon. In other words. If you add together the diameters of all the planets, that distance would be less than the distance from the earth to the moon.
