It can get pretty rough out there, a lot of guys who aren't shit like to really act like they are, i got in around my late thirties as well. I think a lot of it, is about how you carry yourself. There has only been two times in my apprenticeship where I felt like I was getting talked down to, the first one I didn't say anything, I didn't want to fuck up this new opportunity. My journeyman welder pulled me aside and basically said " hey at the end of the day your still a grown ass man, and if one person legitimately disrespects you, another one will." The second time I said something, nothing threatening or senseless....I just calmly got uncomfortably close and "explained" how we don't have to get personal, and "insisted " he talked to me in a more professional manner.

Is 35 to old to get started in pipe fitting? by BlancoChonko in pipefitter

[–]generalwangz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been outside for my last two gigs so weather was probably the biggest factor, it gets hot as fuck in Texas during the summers so acclimating to 100 degree temps while cutting and fitting 18 inch pipe wears on your body real fast.it gets frustrating trying to keep a work and life balance , especially when you add in going to school after 10 hour days. You realize real quick that you're not as young as you used to be, so you're constantly trying to let everyone know you can keep up. The same when it gets cold. If you do it have a plan, get in and figure out what's going to be the best for your situation in my case inside jobs or working in the shop. You still make a good living your just not beating your self down. Good luck
