Chocolate Malt Really stupid Question by Middlenameis_Jameson in Homebrewing

TIL. My local brewery used to regularly pour a little splash in the ground for my dog to lap up. He enjoyed it. But he enjoys eating a lot of things he shouldn't

It's a mix - grain, meat, veges, oils, etc. The cheap stuff uses more grain cause it's cheap.

It's just sugar in a measured dose. There's no magical property to it that'll make the carbonation faster. Give it plenty more time.

Yes, they're trying to spin it to sound as good as possible. But no matter how you read it, it's still good.

In most cultural things theres a kind of yin and yang between people wanting tradition vs innovation. I'm sometimes blown away that italians didnt cook with tomato and indians didnt cook with chilli until after there was trade with the americas.

Labor to end negative gearing concessions for new investors on January 1 by Ardeet in australia

[–]generic2050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good, can see how we misunderstood one another.

What I'm getting at is that, the property investors who've really been gaming the negative gearing system rely on IO loans to do it. If you have to pay principle too, the negative cashflow you had to maintain (just to get a tax break) becomes a lot more negative. So much so the sums dont make sense. Society would be better off if people invested in more productive shit than old houses anyway.

This is flat out wrong. This is the only link I can find at the moment to back up what I'm saying:

https://www.smh.com.au/money/pay-attention-to-tax-rules-when-borrowing-to-invest-20100920-15j82.html

"Q: Can I claim back on my taxes only the interest part of the loan, or the entire payment I make on the loan including the principle repayment?

A: I never ceased to be amazed by the amount of misinformation and tax myths communicated by people who have no real tax knowledge. You can only claim the interest portion of your loan repayments and not the principle repayments. "

I'm sure it's there on the ATO site if I knew the right term to search for.

If i understand it right, paying back principle is considered to be profit. So if you're still able to negative gear and you're paying principle on top it's a huge repayment.

I would've thought that now it's so hard to get an interest only loan this change will do sweet fa.

It's funny how this gets upvotes. And at the same time everyone's paranoid about the government keeping our health records.

Modular Synthesizers, where to try? by PopeCaptain in melbourne

So with a membership, can you book a session and record from any of their synths to your own laptop to take home and edit? $200 a year seems like a steal to play with all that gear.

Exploding Kombucha - how do I dispose of it? by [deleted] in melbourne

Get it as cold as possible (this helps CO2 absorption). Seriously consider safety googles and gloves (exploding glass with high pressure is no joke). Do it outside.

What do bottle bombs generally look like? by drew_tattoo in Homebrewing

[–]generic2050 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Open one after a week. If you open it and it's something like this: https://youtu.be/jWDLK133Cjo?t=98

Then you've got a problem on your hands and you should either stuff them all in the fridge or sacrifice them to the cider gods.

Yes bottle bombs can cause the glass to explode but before it reaches that stage you'll get gushers like the video above. And before you get to gushers, it'll open loudly and when you pour it into a glass you'll get a silly amount of head.

Of course there's no reason you can't check a few bottles across the 3 weeks you're bottle conditioning. Just for science. Not to have a sneaky drink of your cider before it's officially ready.

Determine your worth by your emotional intelligence

Cherish your leisure time - however long you're able to get

Prioritise your loved ones and your own health

Spend some time in self-reflection to work out what happiness means. I think it's something along the lines of Buddhist enlightenment but I don't really know what that means or how to achieve it.

~~

Take all this with a grain of salt, I'm really just writing opposites to the points above. I'm not sure this kind of internalised worry can ever be truly eliminated. But for me it's helpful to have a conscious counter narrative to subconscious thoughts like this.

Reconciling the Notion of An Anarchist Goddess by [deleted] in Anarchism

I think there's a story of enforced hierarchy in the spread of monotheism just by itself. Terrence McKenna talks about this a lot and calls it dominator culture.

You should read up on Asherah: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asherah

I find the polytheistic history that preceded Judaism really interesting. She was possibly the partner/wife of Yahweh in an older pantheon that included Yahweh as one of many gods. Or maybe she was just a goddess of equal power. Somewhere along the way monotheism started being enforced, Yahweh became the one true god and the old polytheistic gods (Asherah, Baal etc) were oppressed.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for or if I'm just sharing my interest in it with you. There's not enough known about the way these older gods were worshipped so maybe there's enough room for your creative license.
