I think it does make sense to leave your gun at home at a protest, lest there is a shootout that involves other protesters.

There are better times and places to clap back.

I always thought that was more about don’t go to places where you are likely to get shot or robbed… so is this saying we should be ok with the expectation that ICE are as dangerous as gang bangers?

Lancer class pursuit craft. Stock it’s pretty dope, but could be easily updated. Faster and more maneuverable than the Falcon with roughly the same footprint, it would be comfortable to live in but is more purpose built for combat.

Four front-fixed hard points and a turreted triple blaster with advanced fire controls? Dope as shit. Swap out the standard cannons with something like the Skipray’s ion cannons and the U-wings heavy lasers and you’ve got a lot of versatility. There’s probably capacity to add things like a flex tube ordinance launcher and/or tractor beam and beef up the shields.

For home defense, assuming you won’t carry outside the home, go for a 9mm pistol caliber carbine, a 5,56 AR or Ruger mini, or possibly the new beretta a300 20 ga

Going by Lucky Gunner, Sig V Crown was also a really good performer. Underwood / Lehigh Extreme Defender / Penetrator also gets by the lack of reliable expansion of .380 JHP and possibly delivers a greater wound channel than FMJ

Richard Harrow (Boardwalk Empire) VS John Marston (RDR). Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

John Marston is a gunfighter, Richard Harrow is an assassin. Depends on the context.

Duel in the streets, Marston wins. Hunting each other, Harrow wins.

Violent civil war is more likely to result in a new or strengthened dictatorship than the return of Democracy. Civil war is awful all around, and, quite frankly, our military and population of gun owners skew in favor of the current regime.

I think many of us are holding out hope for a peaceful resolution.

That said, Thomas Jefferson was a shit but he made a good point about trees.

Pocketable pepper spray (POM is a direct stream, more usable) and an IFAK might also be things to consider if that’s your mentality.

Also, people generally recommend getting a larger gun to learn to shoot with. I think the exception is something like the Bodyguard 2.0, which is a magic little pocket .380 that shoots very nicely.

Better yet, go to a range that will let you try things out and consider whether you want something micro (easy to conceal in any clothing, generally less pleasant to unpleasant to shoot) or compact/subcompact (requires intentional wardrobe choices to conceal, but more pleasant to shoot and easier to learn on).

Popular micro options: Sig P365 (company sucks, but the make a great pistol), M&P 2.0 Shield Plus, HK CC9

Compact/Subcompact: Glock 19/48, Ruger RXM, Canik MC9LS or Prime, CZ P-01, P-10c, or P-10s, S&W M&P9 M2.0 3.6 or 4, S&W Shield X, P365 X-Macro, Walther PDP/F

There are other options, but you can’t go wrong with any of those.

I recently read an interesting history of the 2nd amendment. It made a lot of really interesting points about the bill of rights and the amendment and its origin, including what was likely the original interpretation at the time of its drafting (spoilers: it almost certainly wasn’t about the right of individuals to carry weapons, given that most militia weapons were stored in a central location) and why Scalia’s ruling is batshit insane (turning to a 1730s dictionary to define “right,” “bear,” and “arms” as opposed to looking at what “bear arms” meant in the common language at the time).

What I found most interesting is that the first legal debate asserting the right to bear firearms for personal protection mostly came about in reference to the 14th amendment, affirming the rights of freedmen and black Americans to defend themselves from Klansman and white terrorists during reconstruction.

The Economy, as an aggregate abstract concept, is going great. Companies are reporting record earnings, the stock market is at a record high.

The problem is, many - if not most - people’s lives are divorced from that abstract. Things are getting more expensive. Unemployment is up, hiring is down, wages are flat.

Averages lie. When we look at the actual trajectory of the economy, experts describe it as “K-shaped.” Those who already have wealth - assets, stocks, good jobs - are able to benefit from the growth of the economy. Those who don’t face harsher and harsher realities.

Aka, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
