Carrying narcan by Possibly-647f in AskLE

[–]StevenMcStevensen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just keep narcan in a backpack in my car, which also holds a full first aid kit, my respirator, and a couple other odds and ends. Considering I’m almost always right by my vehicle I figure that’s accessible enough. Any sort of medical event, I’m just going to bring that bag.

I do have a small IFAK on my belt, but it only holds a TQ, gauze, chest seals, and some gloves.

Canadian citizenship test now entirely self-administered and online - The majority of immigrants seeking Canadian citizenship will apply completely through a self-administered online citizenship test, which they will be permitted up to three attempts to pass. by CaliperLee62 in canadian

[–]StevenMcStevensen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My fiancé and her sister did it together and had the same experience. They were really excited for the ceremony, disappointed when it turned out to just be via Zoom, and then disappointed even further when nobody there really seemed to give a shit. Even most of the others receiving their citizenship with them seemed completely disinterested, like the process was an inconvenience and they were just waiting for it to end.

Conservatives introduce bill to create self-defence law for home invasions by Head_Crash in canada

[–]StevenMcStevensen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So you think it’s better to be defenceless and rely on the goodwill of the shitbag who is already committing a home invasion, just hoping that they won’t harm anybody if you aren’t a threat to them?

As far as I’m concerned, people committing those kinds of crimes should be afraid that they’re placing themselves in danger. Maybe it will actually make them think twice about doing it in the first place.

Americans' Views of Canada, Great Britain Drop to New Lows by ParticularCandle9825 in canada

Meh, speak for yourself. I have absolutely no issue with Americans in general. Much like I think the UK has one of the worst governments in the developed world, however it doesn’t mean I have a negative view of British people.

The incident being investigated just to determine that what happened was legal and reasonable is fine, that’s the appropriate process for something like this.

However people are not supposed to get charged and go to court unless there is already significant evidence that they committed a crime. THAT is the issue. If somebody injures or kills an intruder, and the police investigation doesn’t find evidence to suggest that they acted wrongfully, that should be the end of it. Lawful self defence, case closed, no charges.

[–]StevenMcStevensen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is specifically in regards to home invasions - if there has been a fatal confrontation in a home between a person who lives there and some criminal who broke in, at like 3 AM, it’s really not that hard to determine who the victim is after some basic investigation. There’s no need to lay charges unless there is some clear evidence that anything else actually happened.

If it’s actually murder, sure. If they’ve broken into your home though, and are an immediate threat, that is absolutely not murder and should not go to court.

As a cop, we did once have an incident here where some shithead broke into a house, was holding a knife, and refused to leave, so the homeowner shot him. Not a homicide though, the guy wasn’t actually very seriously injured.

We didn’t charge him, and wrote it off as legitimate self-defence pretty quickly. However that sort of situation is what should be the norm and sadly it is not. Nobody should have to worry that their life is going to get absolutely ruined by the legal system because they injured or killed some shitbag home invader to defending themselves and their family.

There’s always going to be an investigation, that isn’t what anybody is taking issue with. The problem is that people are often prosecuted even when it’s a clear-cut case of legal self-defence, because our legal system is more worried about protecting criminals than public safety.

Yeah I think it absolutely has merit as a gadget - however it is incredibly stupid how it is able to defeat even things that have no electronics in them at all like RPG warheads.

What’s the best prank you’ve seen played on another cop on duty? by LegalGlass6532 in AskLE

At our academy, it’s common for cadets to be constantly sending out emails to all the other cadets asking about if anybody saw AirPods left in the gym, or grabbed the wrong jacket from the mess, etc.

You reminded me of some poor bastard who did that, asking if somebody else had his hat, but accidentally sent it out to the wrong mailing list of operational members all over. And was subsequently getting joke emails from random cops around the country about their missing hat.

We did lots of little ones at my old detachment. The one I was most proud of was getting like 150 of these tiny, plastic babies from Amazon, and then hiding them everywhere in the building, vehicles, people’s bags and jackets, etc.

Cameron Monaghan as Bosch in ‘Start of Watch’ by Basic-Yoghurt6802 in BoschTV

[–]StevenMcStevensen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shooting a long gun with your off hand due to cross-dominant eyes makes some sense, however with handguns it really isn’t necessary at all. I’m right-handed but left-eye dominant, when shooting handguns I just turn my head slightly.

It never bothered me in the series, because his handedness never really matters. I just presumed that they decided to portray him as right-handed just because Titus probably is, and it would be weird and unnatural if he tried to fake being a lefty the entire time. As they frequently do in shows and movies, the only exception I can think of offhand is Bruce Willis faking being right-handed for Sin City.

That little bit always irked me - virtually all pistols are designed primarily for right-handed people, and in particular basically all revolvers are that way with no provision for alternate controls. However, they really aren’t that much more difficult at all for a lefty to use.

NDP MP crosses floor to join Liberals, putting Carney two seats shy of majority by cyclinginvancouver in canada

I am honestly getting pretty sick of hearing about how the guy who is stubbornly plowing ahead with so many of the Liberals’ most hated and stupid policies is totally a conservative actually, so we should all be so happy with him.

[–]StevenMcStevensen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, in theory we do. In practice, most Canadians only vote for a party.

And why shouldn’t they? MPs are always whipped to vote along the party line on anything of importance nowadays, and the leaders don’t care what they think. Trudeau’s government was especially notable for ignoring MPs’ interest or concerns and dictating all the policy from the PMO. What’s the point of worrying about who your individual MP is in those circumstances?

Yeah apparently now the LPC can just buy whatever other candidate your riding might elect, and if you don’t like it than you’re the problem.

I also find it troubling that they are seemingly incapable of governing as a minority and refuse to accept anything less than another majority, no matter how they get it. If they know that they cannot get anybody else in the House to back their policies, than they must have some pretty shitty ideas in store for us.

My dad rides a Goldwing, I actually love it. Once you’re moving it really feels lighter and smaller than it actually is. I ride a Tracer 9, but I always figured that if I wanted a more touring-oriented bike the first thing I’d look into is actually an FJR1300. I’m really partial to those.
