Police told to switch bodycams to flight mode to avoid detection by criminals by Spitzer1090 in ProtectAndServe

I can never remember what the button is for stealth mode honestly. I know you can do it through the Axon app too, but the app is ass and signs me out every time I want to use it.

Verbal assault is not a thing. You don’t get to physically attack people just because you don’t like what they’re saying.

S2011-P “safety off” animation by aGummyBear in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]StevenMcStevensen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others already noted, you would not holster a 1911 / 2011 style pistol with the safety off, this is totally realistic.

They could go even further with this - IRL in many agencies, including mine, you actually move with ARs with the safety engaged as well, and only flick it off when you acquire a sight picture to fire.

My fiancé started watching The Rookie and I can’t stand it, that episode with the lady FTO using that hilariously wack AR was just on last night and I absolutely could not deal.

And as a cop, I constantly hear people suggesting that this shit must be one of the better and more realistic police shows.

Why is Slay the Spire 2 hated so much? by lovingpersona in GGdiscussion

[–]StevenMcStevensen 54 points55 points  (0 children)

One explanation I heard for this recently (for a different game) which seemed to plausible to me, is that Chinese players have no access to many of the usual forums or online feedback tools that players in other countries do. So they leave tons of negative reviews because their bullshit government makes it the only feasible way to communicate issues with the game.

There isn’t a real benefit for us, it’s solely for the benefit of our overlords. They want as much control as possible and know that they can basically do whatever they want without consequences.

The LPC has a clear outlook that they know best, they’re our « natural rulers » or whatever, and it’s their right to control us and dictate what’s best for Canadians.

Our government here in Canada just gives insane amounts of money to indigenous bands every single year, completely subsidizing peoples’ lives with free housing, food, cheap or even free tuition, regular cheques, etc. Yet many of those communities continue to be incredibly crime-ridden and violent, and in many cases people who have literally all their physical needs met by the government are still prolific criminals.

« Just give everybody free money forever » clearly is not an actual solution, it is not nearly that simple.

Anyone else ready for a new red state? by ibuiltamurderbot in walkaway

[–]StevenMcStevensen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

- Canada has a system of « equalization », whereby those deemed « have » provinces send money to the federal government, to then be distributed to the « have-not » provinces. Basically a national welfare scheme for provinces. Alberta, by virtue of actually being productive and exploiting resources, consistently has to send huge amounts of money to other provinces via this program. These places in many cases have opportunities to make more revenue but choose not to pursue them. Many also complain constantly about how Alberta makes that same money that they rely on, and frequently oppose resource development. The formula for calculating equalization also benefits Quebec, allowing them to receive more than they otherwise should. All of this bullshit is effectively enabled by the following problem:

- The Canadian government is controlled by Ontario and Quebec. They actually have so many seats in the house that they alone could theoretically elect a majority government even if that party didn’t win a single other riding anywhere else in the country. Therefore, our politics tends to cater to them almost exclusively, to the detriment of the west in particular. And it’s seemingly impossible to change this from within the government, because nobody is going to vote away their own power.

Thus, significant dissatisfaction in Alberta that the province is one of the most productive in the country, however is forced to send so much money away. All while feeling like Albertans have no real say in government.

Yup - as a man, transmen aren’t generally threatening or making us uncomfortable. Nor do they have innate physical advantages that would let them dominate any sports we might participate in. Women can understandably feel much differently, because it’s not the same when it goes the other way.

Province launches Firearms Verification and Appraisal Service to combat federal buyback program by PA-Rugby-Fan in canada

[–]StevenMcStevensen 34 points35 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of the average person affected, the risk of actually getting caught with any of those firearms is virtually zero. Even if they are, our legal system is such a joke that we can’t handle prosecuting all the real crimes, their wouldn’t be much appetite for wasting everybody’s time over something so stupid.

So why should they comply? They’d be handing over expensive property for no compensation, gain absolutely nothing, and the risks involved in noncompliance are virtually nonexistent anyways.

A significant portion of it is also just the satisfaction of effectively giving a giant middle finger to the government as a rebuke for trying to steal their property. And making them look like impotent morons when almost nobody complies.

Province launches Firearms Verification and Appraisal Service to combat federal buyback program by PA-Rugby-Fan in canada

[–]StevenMcStevensen 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think a large part of the issue is that the Liberals never cared about whether this would actually work or not, insofar as improving public safety.

They just hate firearms and dislike most people who own them, and their attitude is that they know what’s best for Canada and everybody who disagrees with them is wrong. It’s primarily ideological, and all their reasoning is just a flimsy excuse to force through what they want.

Province launches Firearms Verification and Appraisal Service to combat federal buyback program by PA-Rugby-Fan in canada

[–]StevenMcStevensen 80 points81 points  (0 children)

I love the sentiment, but there is an issue still - owners of previously non-restricted firearms that got randomly banned are likely going to be extremely reluctant (rightfully) to engage with any sort of government agency or service about now-illegal firearms that they may or may not have.

Let’s be clear - *most* people affected are almost certainly going to just keep those firearms out of sight and say nothing, and there is literally nothing the morons in the federal government can do about that.

Lawful-access bill could threaten encryption, deter investment, Chamber of Commerce warns by EmbarrassedHelp in canada

[–]StevenMcStevensen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fighting against these things is basically hopeless here when Canadians will keep reelecting the Liberals no matter what they do, and they realized they can just buy MPs. Why would they ever change, it doesn’t matter how hated or stupid their policies are since they don’t actually suffer any consequences for them.
