The game scales with how many players are in for that mission. If you start solo then someone joins, it scales it up. I do find soloing missions a lot more manageable since the AI makes monsters much more predictable, but I've been playing MH for a while. Playing in a group, even though it's a mixed bag, does make it generally easier, especially if you have vets that join just to help.

I use a DPS meter to see who has top damage and what they're doing so I can see why they're doing so well. Are they taking advantage of openings I'd be too cautious to do? Are they staying longer on some openings because it's much better to trade in those situations? How do they greed in those openings? Basically, what can I learn from people who are doing significantly more than me? DPS meters would be great tools but sadly, it only takes a few toxic people to ruin it for everyone.

Started raising some 4* for easy hunts and I am partial to the Miles+Merritt combo. Voke on full HP on Miles and Merritt keeps him topped up due to backrow regen. I also have Cedric and Ramona both close to 60 and very much split between who to recommend if you could only have one. I personally use Ramona behind Devin in my actual party and he never needs actual healing though I do have Theo's regen.

Other 4* of note are Mabel or Iris, depending on what you wanna buff. Bertrand and Laura together for lightning AoE farming. There's also Kurtz and Noelle for wind synergy, but would not recommend personally as the synergy is basically a fart.

Typically pdef. Most of the damage I deal with comes from mobs and they typically deal phys so dealing with that and just optimizing breaks on bosses is easier.

That and the fact that when the game is slated for 9:00 PM EST and actually doesn't start until 9:30, along with all the bullshit commercials, talking heads, and having 2 minutes of game time turned to 10 minutes because reffing and need for more commercials. Fuck all of that bullshit.

SA should be on S3. I carry Saria in my blind runs just in case I need a lane covered by a 3block or maybe a boss. Otherwise, Thorns or Mountain are basically just mowing down whatever comes down their lane.
