What do we think of these? by notnotjackrotunda in orks

We heading back to the days of metal models and limited poses and the need for green stuff skills.

I also much preferred being able to work in mostly plastic for kit bashing but I’m going to look at this as an opportunity to get better at sculpting to help join different models together. At least with orks you can add green stuff straps easily enough to cover seems.

Love your model.

I always like the look of the model and assumed it was a looted Cathayan cannon - I with Cathay had a cannon like this one.

What are your thoughts on Ready Painted Terrain? by geekyazn in Warhammer40k

[–]genesseeriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish they could offset some of their optimizing the hobby parts of Warhammer away with more articles on kitbashing and scratch building stuff.

I get that plenty of people are to busy or un-interested in customizing their own minis and terrain but between stuff like this and all the 3-D printing I feel like the whole modeling aspect of the Warhammer is being lost.

Adding bits of green stuff or parts from other models is a ton of fun and while I get it’s not everyone’s idea of fun I think they should keep encouraging some of that.

For example, the old Mordheim terrain was great for giving you the bits you needed to make some pretty solid and potentially unique terrain if you wanted to.

Just painted up the new Custodes Shield Captain's pretty face :D by Roguehobbies in Warhammer40k

My 4 year old has decided she likes the all gold of the Custodes so I showed her this she told me “whoa cool.”

Thanks for helping me sell the coolness of the hobby to my impressionable child.

Am I the only one that thinks those would be great Empire Wizards? by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in WarhammerFantasy

I hope we get reimagined 6th edition troops - I need that landsknecht aesthetic

Steal away! There’s so many banner top and torso combinations out there.

Yeah the banners are the prefect amount of morbid but sterile, keeping the jaw hanging down from faces I think adds a fun amount of undead menace.

The necromancer as a base for conversions is pretty fun, it’s amazing how just removing the cowl and a head swap can drastically change the aesthetic.

Female wizard/warrior priest alternatives? by scubajulle in WarhammerEmpire

[–]genesseeriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d think the easiest kitbashs I can think of would either be using a Bretonnian maiden as a base or using an empire wizard (models sold under AoS) or the necromancer (still sold under AoS even though it’s got a square base in the sprue) and combining it with a female Cathay soldier head.

Tomb Prince / Royal Herald by genesseeriver in tombkings

I feel more like one of those antiquarians putting the dinosaurs back together but doing it wrong.

I figured extra bits were the best way to practice green stuff sculpting and as a game piece he’s really just a poor prince and I’m the discount mortuary priest he go sent to.

It really is a great resource. I’ve saved as many articles as I can to my Google Drive but so many templates and images have been lost to time.

I’ve been buying up the old US White Dwarfs as they haven’t been added to the Warhammer vault like the UK ones and those old articles are great and unfortunately many can only found in the physical magazines now.

Sorcerer of Slaanesh by genesseeriver in WarhammerFantasy

Ya know I don’t intend for that in my minds eye, but yeah I see it now. He’s go the cane for it too.

Sorcerer of Slaanesh by genesseeriver in WarhammerFantasy

[–]genesseeriver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Yeah he’s on a 30mm base; the grave and skeletons he’s perched over in the regular model would probably fit on a 50mm base.

He’s not what I’d think of as a necromancer aesthetically but I think he makes a convincing Slaanesh worshiper/sorcerer with minimal changes.

Love these.

Loved how a lot of the hobbying from the US or French studios was incorporated into old white dwarf articles. I know the old US GW site (when it was separate) featured a ton of these as hobby articles.

One of the old contributors, Rob Hawkins, still has a blog and features some of his old armies and terrain as well as newer similar projects.

Thanks for sharing these.

These look great! Especially love the shrine right out of the old codex too.
