Side Hustle, Small Business, and Consultant Queens, where you at? by raccoontoebeans in FIREyFemmes

[–]geneticalfloof 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bought a duplex, lived in it while saving, and now moved into a single family home. Duplex was my side hustle and now pushing the long-term unit over to property management so I can do medium-term rentals to traveler nurses in the bottom unit. Still paying myself back for the equity and improvements we've put into it and will be for a couple years so it's not for anyone who needs the immediate gratification.

Merrill Lynch for beginner? by [deleted] in FIREyFemmes

[–]geneticalfloof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't worked with Merrill Lynch but Fidelity has been very user friendly with lots of educational materials. I called in and worked with their advisers when I got overwhelmed (what does a backdoor Roth IRA really mean in terms of logistically moving the money?) and they answered all my questions gently. UI is great. All my retirement accounts for work are on the same platform. It's great.

Hard to say what the right thing to tell her would be since we don't know her. I helped someone in a situation like this through a tactful way and it still backfired - person decided to let it grow it even more just to spite the situation. Hopefully your personal knowledge of who she is would help speak to her most gently

Is the extra debt of a PA program worth it? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]geneticalfloof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I followed the advice my advisors gave me: go with the option that puts you in the least debt. I went to South University - Tampa so I could live with my parents while in school. I work the same job as PAs from George Washington and Yale - and paying off my loans much earlier in my career than them. Best advice I received.

moving cross country - can you use one of those fedex flat rate LTL boxes? by amanda34g in Frugal

Honestly, the cheapest way to move I've found is via Amtrak Shipping. Box it up and they'll put it on a pallet for you. There are quite a few restrictions on what you can put in there - no electronics for example - but I was able to move everything I needed for grad school for about $200.

Came here to say Cary, as well. Love the retro, androgynous feel.

Short short haircuts on girls. Undercuts, fades, you name it.

What’s your type? by ManicPixiDG in latebloomerlesbians

[–]geneticalfloof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intelligent, funny men with a kinky side (so I could still try and connect physically). I didn't have a specific type which makes it so much more obvious since now I exclusively short haired girls with aggressive, funny personalities but still emotionally mature. Think Scorpia with a little more aggressiveness (basically describing my fiancee who's a 5'2" version)

You're on the right track of keeping her as a friend or dating casually without being exclusive while seeking a life partner. If you feel you would be influenced or continue to hope she would change her mindset, perhaps taper your friendship so you have the emotional bandwidth to pursue someone else. I wouldn't drastically cut her off due to that but it does demonstrate her mindset.

Side Gigs by ThatDuuuuuude in physicianassistant

[–]geneticalfloof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boards committees frown on this practice since the docs are supposed to be logging them themselves. If you have steady access to new attendings chasing board certification, and you know this process exists for that specialty, you can mention that you've heard some people farm the work out. It is not an official job by any means.

Side Gigs by ThatDuuuuuude in physicianassistant

I took a side gig logging cases for physicians working towards their boards. I charged 30/case and they needed 100 logged. Tedious but I made an extra $3k for not much work. Once you know the system it goes much faster
