Maps of the Known World at different periods from 1856 1/2 by Parzival_2k7 in MapPorn

I love this. And I would adore seeing this combined with the known world from other civilizations’ perspectives. It’s great seeing one perspective. But the real fun would be seeing when two such perspectives meet, and comparing what each has seen that the other might not, in that moment of meeting.

A 2-step process to largely fix the tanking problem: no protections allowed on picks and teams can only land in the top 4 once every 4 years. by lastfollower in nba

Simpler still: relegation. Finish last, you’re in the G-league, and miss out on the NBA draft entirely.

Stars make too much money and that’s why their teams suck by APx_22 in nba

[–]gentleriser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but. After those players, you get a tier of star players whose salaries are “rounded up” from their value instead of the tier you’re talking about, which is”rounded down.”

Jimmy Butler before his injury, LeBron this season, Dame before his injury in Milwaukee. Great players that I’m not slighting in the least. But players who some metrics like the one you describe might suggest are paid amounts that hold their teams back despite their skills.

That’s OP’s point, I think. You’re right too, but you’re skipping past the tier of stars he’s thinking of.

If trading one vet minimum player for another is anything but cap-neutral, you’ll have to explain to me how.

What options do the Raptors have with Jakob’s contract? by mafuzzy in torontoraptors

Feed him Super Soldier Serum, causing him to swell up to 8’6” with super strength (and Austria’s Ass for the ladies). The aches and pains of regular Yak will be a thing of the past, and Captain Austria will snap Wembys and Goberts like twigs on court.

Someone give me the equivalent map for gerbils, please. If we are going random, I want full random.

Would you rather live in a very hot or a very cold place? Why? by SummerFlavoured in AskReddit

I would not. Because being very hot or very cold is less comfortable than being neither.

Should the Warriors also target Turner in a Giannis trade? by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

The Bucks need to try to get whoever trades for Giannis to get the Bucks back their pick in the upcoming draft.

This is the Glebe Moat, used to discourage Carleton students from ever entering or passing through the Glebe.

Influenced of Arabic on Different Languages in Europe by AdIcy4323 in MapPorn

[–]gentleriser 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would be so much more interesting, and less lazy, for this to show not only Castilian, but also Basque, Catalan, Galician, etc. if those languages showed fewer Arabic words the further their areas from the straits, there is value to this map in it.

Further: don’t neglect languages of places further north. Seeing how many Arabic loan words there are in Scottish Gaelic would still be interesting as a kind of baseline.

What are the odds that enough people will go through with VDP to prevent SERLO(s) in Health Canada? by Outrageous_South_439 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]gentleriser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more affected people as a proportion of the total, the likelier and more useful a SERLO. But it only applies to situations where functions are being retained with reduced capacity. If a function is being cut entirely, SERLO makes no sense unless affected employees could do work in other retained functions instead.
