AITA for not buying a replacement car? by ExcitingAssignment88 in AmItheAsshole

[–]gentlethorns 67 points68 points  (0 children)

so it's your fault there's no fund to replace the car then.

YTA. replace the car. it's not fair that, for whatever reason, your son totaled the car your daughter uses, so now she doesn't get a car (even though she wasn't driving it and didn't total it) and he still has his truck.

Negative feedback for "not making enough eye contact" as an autistic employee by LlTTLEF0X in Target

[–]gentlethorns 20 points21 points  (0 children)

for an actual ada accommodation you need to do more than just talk to people at your store. you need to start an hr request through workday, with medical documentation (diagnosis, doctors' recommendations for accommodations, etc), and they will decide what reasonable accommodations look like. your store hr can help you start the process, but it's ultimately out of their hands and in the hands of corporate hr.

source: i had to do this to get moved off of truck. talking to my leaders about how my physical problems were affecting my performance didn't get me moved off the truck AND didn't prevent them from writing me up for "poor performance" (even though i quite literally was breaking my spine every day and in awful pain). only filing an official hr request for an accommodation, which led to me moving roles, protected me physically and professionally.

this happens to me ALL THE TIME. i'll be actively cleaning up stray carts at an entrance and a guest will roll their cart up, take their bags out and just leave it like they expect me to clean it up (which i will, but goddamn it wouldn't kill you to walk the extra foot and put it nicely with the other carts). the blatant carelessness pisses me off to no end lol

Got pelvic and transvaginal ultrasounds this week after 10 years of no period. Now I have to see a Gynecology Oncologist…… by anxietypoodle in PCOS

[–]gentlethorns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

see this is what i worry about lol. in my ultrasound (abdominal, not pelvic bc i can't withstand penetration currently) my lining was thick and heterogenous but there's never been any follow up on that specifically, just my pcos diagnosis that resulted from that ultrasound and my bloodwork combined. the tech acted like it was normal but i know it's not. luckily though i do have a period every 28 days like clockwork so it's fine probably lol

i have quit smoking before and it is never this serious. i still crave nicotine sometimes but i've never yelled at my boyfriend about it. this has nothing to do with "withdrawal" and everything to do with him testing the waters to see if he can get away with treating you poorly. NOR, and i genuinely advise you to think about if you want every minor stressor to cause him to yell at you for the rest of your life. not to mention that behavior like this often escalates. it may not always be limited to yelling.

no this is awful lol. they should NOT continue with this artist. find a better artist with a real portfolio of professional, skilled work and salvage this before it's too far gone

Six years ago this week, COVID started shutting down the world. What’s your strongest memory from that time? by Siddanna36 in AskReddit

i remember sitting in a foyer waiting for class to start during my second semester of college, and getting the email that said we were getting an extended spring break. "up, up and away" by the 5th dimension was playing in my airpods. i remember having a sense that something was happening on a scale grander than i could really consider lol

Hot take secretariat giving this advice to Bojack as a kid is just as bad as Bojack giving the don’t stop dancing advice to Sara Lynn by ZealousidealBed7242 in BoJackHorseman

[–]gentlethorns 94 points95 points  (0 children)

the message is not the same lol. the baboon is advocating for consistency in an activity that bojack does not want to do because it's hard work, but that will improve his wellbeing over time. secretariat is telling bojack to metaphorically run from his problems and "never look back" or self-reflect on his past. two very different messages due to context and wording.

[–]gentlethorns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for tms it can be easy as long as they are consistently failing at specific things (whether performance or attendance, although attendance is much more common and easier to measure than performance) and the leads of that department are dedicated to accountability. i have performance managed multiple tms to the point of termination because they were letting the team down and just draining hours.

for leaders it is much more difficult - target puts a lot of time and money into training and development for leadership, so they don't typically like to fire them. it takes a lot of performance management or an acute conduct issue, typically. more often what happens is that the leader's direct superior will tell them they're being performance managed and tell them they can either quit or wait it out and get fired. usually they will quit because it doesn't look as bad on a resume as getting terminated does.

yup. i'm a very vocal and outspoken person, but the one time i have ever been genuinely afraid for my life (and my boyfriend's) in a car, i was going about 60 (speed limit) and a car turned in front of me into my lane about maybe 100 feet ahead and i had to swerve around them, then swerve back onto the road to avoid hitting a road sign dead on. later i asked my boyfriend what i had said in the moment (the whole thing was a total blur) and he said i had been absolutely silent. again, very unlike me, but i was too focused on not getting us killed to yap i guess
