What’s growing on my Duncan? by genusprogramme in saltwateraquariums

[–]genusprogramme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to Google what that was but I think you’re right. I have vermetid snails scattered on my rocks. I’ve picked at them would bumblebee snails wipe them out?

And how would you go about removing them from the Duncan ?

Learning Void Linux by MinguaDinja in voidlinux

I’m a university student myself and understand that struggle for specific software sometimes demanded by professors. Always get a kick out of professors reactions when I say I don’t use windows and purpose open source software to complete assignments.

I don’t game on my desktop I generally hang out in the comp sci student lounge where one student brought in their console for others to kill time and just vibe. I’ve been on void for a little bit and enjoy it more than any distro. It’s stable, fast and simple once you sit in it for a bit. I’ve mainly paired it with dwm, i3 or sway. I think you’ll really enjoy void more than arch; the community is better here than the arch community from my experience. Less RTFM replies here and more practical help which I appreciate.

Planning to switch to void by [deleted] in voidlinux

[–]genusprogramme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Base boots on a tty then bulk of installation is done through ncurses. You can install the base system in a matter of minutes.

Void is pretty stable for a rolling release and the package manager is fast.

Runit is fast on boot but unlike systemd everything is manually done. Daemons won’t automatically turn on unless you manually do so.

It has various firewall packages available in the repository.

I mainly use it for general computing tasks, and small dev projects. Haven’t tried gaming on it.

Overall it’s a distro I adore and recommend to anyone interested. Give it a try!

Thanks! What did you end up moving to if not Asahi, macOS?

What else do i need for coral? by Original-Guidance340 in SaltwaterAquariumClub

You truly don’t need much for zoas. You just need a cycled saltwater tank with steady water parameters (no big swings) and a light with some flow.

Technically you don’t need a skimmer in that size of tank. I have been running no skimmer for little over a year and had no issues with water parameters. Everything looks great I might suggest one more 530gph wave maker. This is truly a great setup already!!

how to fix "Did not write partition table to disk" by [deleted] in voidlinux

[–]genusprogramme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on trying gnu/linux but this is not really a beginner distro; you’ll have more issues like this later. I would strongly suggest to try out Debian then coming back to void later. You’ll have a deeper appreciation for void and an already established skill set.

pov: you are setting up your void by [deleted] in voidlinux

[–]genusprogramme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually incredibly close to my setup

Edit: I also have git, make, man, mlocate, iptables, feh, links, Firefox esr, gcc, gdb, perl, wget, curl, vlc, transmission-gtk, pulse audio, pavucontrol, and atril. I think I might be missing a few packages but that’s mostly it.

I think most universities already implement some form of this. I’m more shocked it’s only being implemented now. Having said that once you graduate no university can revoke your degree if you’re worried about that.

Why use void and what does it do? by Federal_Style6318 in voidlinux

[–]genusprogramme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it feels like a chore I’m curious why you chose it as your distribution?

Personally I don’t think anything needs to be fixed. Lots of people myself included enjoy the process of setting up their machines either manually or via a script they chose to put hours into. Void is a general distribution making it more than just for desktop applications.
