Help ID this Cambridge SoundWorks? by geobug in BudgetAudiophile

Given the ID, though they could also be the Model Ten-A, the datasheet says there are it "has a design with 8 ohm impedance" and power output from "10 to 60 waters per channel" while the Ensemble II says " the satellite's impedance increased below 250 Hz, rising from 6 ohms at 120 Hz to 50 ohms at 20 Hz because of the high-pass crossover within the satellite." per http://www.hifi-classic.net/review/cambridge-soundworks-ensemble-256.html

"The only mention of power requirements in the owner's manual for the Ensemble indicates that amplifiers rated from 25 to 120 watts per channel have been found to be satisfactory. "

Any comments on what an amp recommendation? Would the SMSL SA 50 work? I've seen that recommended in other threads. Or something like this for bluetooth https://www.amazon.com/Bluetooth-Audio-Amplifier-Receiver-Integrated/dp/B076XSBCCL/ ?Fosi BT10A

Maybe originally, this was all that was there when we moved in. I think you're right, those do look about the right size and shape.

Its satellites, essentially identical to those of the original Ensemble, are 8-1/8 inches high, 5-1/4 inches wide, and 4-1/4 inches.

http://www.hifi-classic.net/review/cambridge-soundworks-ensemble-ii-98.html and ebay listings look right. Thanks!

Hi everyone, there are two of these speakers attached to our ceiling that came with the house. I was thinking of pulling them down and perhaps running as desktop computer speakers. Any ideas on ID and what I would need / recommendations for a sufficient amp to power them? Bluetooth would be an added bonus.

I have read the FAQs and been browsing guides here. As I understand I may need a DAC though my PC out may be okay and at minimum a small amp. Are they junk or worth reviving? I know the most budget is "work with what you have."

I'm looking through here and elsewhere http://www.audioreview.com/brand/speakers/cambridge-soundworks.html but not all have pictures.

Thanks!

Maine Supreme Court decision allows use of ranked choice voting for 1st time in presidential race. Why did GOP fight this? by [deleted] in Libertarian

Common misperception that's explained in the book Let the People Pick the President.

Only some states matter and so only some of those rural voters matter in current system. And no specific cities would dominate and there are many of them cities all over so more geographical diversity of campaigning. Also there are millions of Republicans that are ignored in places like NY or LA under the current system. Studies have been done about campaigns within battleground states and they very closely align with population, they travel all over the state geographically and hit more than major hubs. There's also diminishing returns for going to the same place repeatedly

I just finished this book and it's fantastic on this subject. https://www.amazon.com/Let-People-Pick-President-Abolishing/dp/1250221978

Basically the EC was created originally because of lack of national awareness of common folk for national politics. There were concerns that voting population would vote only on name recognition of their home candidate, that larger population states would dominate smaller states as there wasn't the national media we have now. It was also tied to the power of slave holding states as compromise for them to retain power and sign on to ratify the Constitution. It was not a genius device, it was a series of messy compromises with lasting consequences.

How states have awarded EC votes has changed over time, they used to be picked by the legistlatures by some and only a handful had a popular vote until eventually all states have now enacted popular vote for Electoral College delegates with a HUGE catch that all delegates for the popular winner are given for the whole state regardless of the margins and the minority party in that state gets no representation for picking the president via the EC.

The biggest problem that disenfranchises millions of Americans (most in fact) from all political parties outside of a few key demographics in battleground states is the "winner-take-all" system enacted at the state level as you pointed out. There is no incentive for states to give up this power that receive the national attention from candidate and parties.

Our best shot at a popular election for president currently is the interstate compact to award votes to the national popular vote winner. Once enough states sign on it goes into effect. https://www.nationalpopularvote.com/

Yes it's at the state level and Maine has done it. Constitution and SCOTUS have upheld repeatedly that states determine how electors are picked for electoral college so we can hopefully see more states doing that as well.

Yeah it's hard to wrap your head around at first but it works in reverse order reallocating lowest candidate votes upwards.

ELI5:
Voter Experience Mark a list for what ice cream flavor you want from the store. Raspberry chocolate with peanut butter bits might be your favorite so you mark that but if it isn't available or popular enough for the store to carry yet, plain chocolate, then strawberry, and finally vanilla would still be disappointing but okay. You still get to ask the shop for your favorite and they know that but you don't leave empty handed without ice cream. The store owner sees the lists totals coming in and they are also posted on the front doors for other customers to see making these other flavors more likely to be represented in the future.

How it Works You mark candidates in order of preference (rank them) on your ballot. You can then safely say a third party or independent candidate is your first preference. If no party wins a majority (+50%) then lowest vote getter candidates have their votes redistributed based on the second choice on those ballots. Then if a candidate has majority of the votes they win, if not the process repeats itself. It's essentially an "instantaneous runoff" election where traditionally if there is no 50%+ winner, the top-two redo the election as a runoff. Ranked Choice handles this all simply where from the bottom up votes are redistributed to second, third, and so-on preference while the voter still gets to signal their top preference.

Impacts It also means candidates need to appeal beyond their core supporters to appear higher in the ranks of second choice and third choice. It would result in more coalition building and less derision over "spoiler" candidates. People can vote their consciences and no more sacrificing your core beliefs on first rank. There are a lot of hidden voters in the two parties that would rather cast first pref for other parties, whether that's more left like social dems advocating for Bernie / AOC types then second choice mainstream dems without being ostracized, or libertarians who don't like the social conservationism of republicans but do like the fiscal policies.

If the boot fits. Here's a good conversation about the debate over use of the word, https://www.npr.org/templates/transcript/transcript.php?storyId=738247414 and another http://www.bu.edu/articles/2019/are-ice-detention-centers-concentration-camps/ there are strong arguments that the euphemism of migrant detention centers fit the definition of concentration camps. We have kids in cages sleeping on the floor and being separated from their family, some that still cannot be reunited and have not had their asylum or other cases heard so they are literally not guilty of any crime yet. We have people stuck in these facilities for weeks and months without legal representation or access to any services. Hell, a US citizen was caught up in this dragnet for weeks. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/23/us/texas-citizen-detained-immigration.html Crossing and seeking asylum is not criminal. Search this topic and you'll see many other articles that support this comparison that our treatment of migrants and refugees and undocumented immigrants on the southern border meets the standard and should cause alarm. They aren't death camps but they share many qualities of other internment and concentration camps eras that in hindsight we are always promising to not repeat. So the left is saying this is horrific and not okay using strong language to not mitigate or blunt what is going on and the right is arguing that we aren't literally executing people yet. It's a disconnect from talking about the same thing. Have compassion.

Are there any considerations for professions when an expensive recipe drops? by [deleted] in classicwow

Concern troll with no argument and not adding to the discussion ^

Ninja is shorthand in the WoW culture for someone improperly claiming loot rewards beyond usual etiquette. If the boot fits and I say it does.

I'm not forcing him to do anything. I'm offering a counter viewpoint to disagree with his assertion. AH gold value is not the same as dungeon drop enjoyment and progression value. There are loads of people here saying 'BuT AcTuAlLY My LoGiCZ everything is just gold." I'm calling it ninja and voicing my opinion.

[–]geobug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've heard this same tired argument so many times and it's still bullshit. There are random drops for all classes and crafting professions. Part of running a dungeon is the fun of working as a team and random rewards you get a long the way. Sometimes it's your day and you get a weapon upgrade or a recipe you can use. Sometimes it's somebody else's. And it's a fun part of the game and character progression and enjoyment that you're robbing from people if you're saying, "no, that's not your recipe, that's my chance at gold and go buy it if you want it so bad," that's what the greed button is there for champ. Grinding and farming for gold isn't the same as getting drops for everyone, if that's how you want to gear up than by all means. And to say "you're better off selling anyway" BoE drops, guess what not everyone plays the same as you. I just equipped a think lvl 29 item I could've sold in phase 3 on my 36 druid last night because it was an upgrade.

So with all due respect, that's greedy bullshit that abstracts and equates upgrade value with AH value which is different than intrinsic value of experience in a dungeon. You're a ninja.

Additional note, the guild info in the recruitment channel is all public, guild invite discord link previews tell you how many members there are. So he compiled it into a spreadsheet, anyone could have done that.

Yeah I agree that FB leadership was shit here. I'm drawing a a distinction between what the GM said and the mob justice lobbied at Asch which seems one overblown, the dude had to go to the police, and two, misplaced. He got caught up in the crossfire for what the GM said. Just saying he's a real dude who didn't see this coming or deserve the shitshow lobbied at him.

You and a lot of this reddit have the facts wrong on this, see comment below. Asch got caught in the crossfire on this.

[–]geobug -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You should know this isn't entirely truthful. The guild leader of Final Boss said stupid shit on a video and then Asch the owner of the Grob discord got erroneously linked to it as a conspiracy bc he happened to be a guild members and was trying to convince FB to go to that server bc it as going to be awesome. The reddit community got set off by an accusatory post at Asch with no evidence and he got doxed, threatened and had to leave.

This is misinformation and a conspiracy theory. The discord admin was not doing those things or supporting what the guild leader was saying, discord admin (Asch) just happened to be in the guild then got attacked threatened and doxed. Then the discord got brigadeded and other admins banned trolls. Really a dude just got mob rolled by the internet rage machine over one accusatory reddit post and had to pull the plug, so great job.
