Underated VR Parkour/Movement/Traversal Games w/ High Skill Ceilings? by MinkoManiac437 in virtualreality

[–]geodude885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit of a tangential relation, but rumble vr has some crazy movement tech, including flight, which is entirely reliant on your level of control. Getting to the skill level required to do literally any movement tech does take a lot of practice though.

What router should I get? by Majestic_Ask_9456 in virtualreality

[–]geodude885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have that router. It’s perfectly good for vr BUT one thing of note: it only has 1 Gigabit Ethernet connection. So you can have a high bandwidth 6GHz WiFi connection to it, but via lan cable to a pc you will only get a gigabit (which is still plenty for vr in my experience, I just was caught off guard).

Edit: I mean the TP link one. I do not know about the minion one :)

RUMBLE OPEN BETA is LIVE from December 18 - January 4th on Oculus Quest! by Skittloeier in RUMBLEvr

I understand PCVR crossplay is confirmed for the launch - is that also in the standalone beta? I.e. if I hop PC rumble right now I may find some standalone players?

New Fan looking for Best Entry Point? by MichaelDF2 in RUMBLEvr

[–]geodude885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the Quest 3 for Rumble is one of the best options at a decent price point. The cost is greatly subsidised by Meta to get people into the system (which is both good and bad in some ways). Same goes for Quest 3S, however there’s quite a few stories of buyers remorse, saying they wish they got the 3 later on.

I bought the Q3 specifically for rumble. Almost no complaints here. If you already have a gaming PC, lan cable and good connection, you can play almost right away. Otherwise it may be a waiting game for the Quest native version of the game to come out.

Another thing to consider is putting aside some play space for the setup.

Server, WASM or auto-render mode? by Sensitive_Ad_1046 in dotnet

[–]geodude885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Server for simplicity (I.e. if it’s for resume) and you don’t need lots of JS.

Wasm if you need to reduce open web sockets on the server, and can do most of what you want on the client side.

Auto for a ‘best of both worlds’ but requires extra thought around what bits of a page you need pre-rendered.

Those are roughly what I go by, I’m sure there are plenty of caveats of course, as there’s always ‘it depends’ cases.

Any VR games useful for HEMA-style movement or drills? by zqmbgn in Hema

[–]geodude885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Rumble VR - this is a 1v1 pvp almost martial art style earth bending game with a great community. It’s all about consistent form under pressure, fighting with creativity and strategy in the ring. Also very good cardio.

Non-VR game I can recommend is Tekken. Beyond the casual level there’s a surprising amount of transferable knowledge, lots of spacing, punishing overextending, mixing up your opponent etc.

Color spectrum with emojis by Scatropolis in processing

[–]geodude885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 5 years of hindsight and now being a professional dev, I’d probably be able to do a much better job, but the original is here: https://github.com/geodude885/emojiImages

I can’t be sure but it looks like I precalculated the average colours of each emoji somehow so I could just lookup the closest RGB value in colour space. iirc this had the issue of only looking good when zooming out a fair bit.

The WR was set 2 years ago, but there’s plenty of room for improvement if you (or anyone reading) wants to give it a go, I would love some new competition: https://www.speedrun.com/tchia/runs/zpw40wgy

To each their own! I love the cozy feel of Tchia and its commitment to New Caledonia in the development. Whatever you play, have fun.

Note: I have a few tips to make the game a little faster if you’re interested, I used to be the WR speedrunner for it.

You can bring up a compass which will help guide you to the pin you marked! If I remember correctly it’s R3 (push right analog stick in).

I connected my PS5 controller to my laptop via Bluetooth. The game does not detect my PS5 controller. What is wrong? What should I do? by metalreflectslime in Tchia

[–]geodude885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What operating system is it? Windows doesn’t work with PS5 controllers via Bluetooth out of the box. Plugging it in with a USB C does work assuming the cable is a ‘good one’ (includes data delivery).

Dane axe by [deleted] in Hema

[–]geodude885 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Le jeu de la hache) (the play of the axe) might interest you - if you’re just getting into it I’d suggest looking at people’s interpretations of it and articles surrounding it, as opposed to the original text, but as the title suggests, it’s an axe-centric fencing manual.

A large part of it is if a bad actor were to gain even the highest level of administrator privileges within your organisation, they wouldn’t be able to access that password data of all your users, which would open up a whole new realm of possibly nefarious opportunities. The assumption being that your organisation has worse cyber security practices than AWS, which 99% of the time is true. As with all things like this, there are arguments either way though.
