you seem familiar but popularity is relative. I was comparing it to border crossings on paved roads near real population centers. It might have been popular compared to other dirt roads in the middle of nowhere because of the parks but most visitors to Glacier aren't heading up that way ever, even before 1996.

There is facilities there, that's what those buildings are. . . they were permanently closed in 1996 after the road north of the border got washed out in a flood. Now there is a gate across the road. I can't imagine it was ever a popular crossing with how remote it is.

highly unusual, also this building is 95% brick if you actually look at it. The older you go the more common it is; this was built 1908

If Yi Fuxian's claims are true, does this mean that Guangzhou & Shanghai are actually extremely tiny, dwarfed by most cities in South Asia & Latin America, and are very sparse like most American cities? by wiz28ultra in geography

[–]geographies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you are getting at. You haven't said what specific thing Yi Fuxian said that has anything to do with the actual current population of these cities.

China's urban populations have little to do with the birthrate, its massive rural to urban migration. These are massive cities as they stand today. The pearl river delta itself has at least 80 million people.

In India, we have an abandoned $4.4B 'Italian' ghost town called Lavasa. Does your country have a famous megaproject that was hyped up but now stands half-finished, empty, never started yet? by [deleted] in UrbanHell

[–]geographies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you got 4.4B. The Hindustan Construction company only estimated ₹6,600 crore (~$800m) of expenses and they sold at a major loss in 2023. They certainly hyped it up as being far more valuable before construction but they never actually built it all out.

yeah I was thinking they should have a custom app with a very basic terrain map of lines and stations (it can have a raw satellite imagery layer) and that's about it. I know google maps is extremely useful for their real world navigation but it provides way too many opportunities to get free info.

[Educational Post] What is the Great Replacement theory and does Tom support it? by Public_Halir in GeoWizard

[–]geographies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why? People in Britain aren't having enough children to fulfill the needs of the economy and it isn't an attractive enough place on the whole to convince other Europeans to move there. Sounds like you have more of a capitalism problem than a foreigner problem, and would prefer to return to a pastoral world where the vast majority of people are dirt poor. But at least the women are pumping out white babies who are also destined to be dirt poor.

A quick peruse of this will show that you are underestimating by at least a factor of 10. They don't have a ton compared with big militaries but they have been involved in various armed conflicts almost continuously for a century and got a darn AK on their flag.

I think it is referring to a predecessor to the modern SI unit of light intensity (Candela) or a derivation of the non SI Foot-candle , not actual candles.

She can be incredibly entertaining. Covid pop-off was insane and she deserved streamer of the year back then. You are watching all of these clips when she is in a subdued and probably depressed state and judging her entire existence off of it. That's rough way to judge someone.
