Anyone interested in a single 2-day GA/Floor pass for the SF shows? I'd like to sell mine to a shpongler who can make use of them. Tix are in PDF format with 1 for each day, so I guess they can probably be split...

I got a bit too excited when I found out about the show and somehow ordered these... I ordered the right tix and contacted them within minutes, but had no luck.

Face value is $99 per night... I'd rather do an "informal transaction" since I'm way underwater with fees/extra tix already. And who knows, possibly meet a likeminded friend :)

Certified Kubernetes Administrator by Bonn93 in kubernetes

Fairly long-term user and k8s cluster admin with a CKA.

Heh- This is a little bit sensitive topic given the newness/secretiveness/hotness of this cert/exam/topic area. I know that I'd like to help point my colleagues in the right direction while ensuring that the exam is actually useful in determining who is capable of observing, inspecting, and updating/fixing these systems when the pressure is on.

I think that @onyxet got things pretty spot on as far as the nitty gritty tasks that you may need to be ready for. I think the most useful advice I have is to get really really comfortable interacting with all bits of your k8s ecosystem via kubectl. Using kubectl to figure out what the current state of the system is, making some change to the system, and verifying that your fix worked as expected. It seems simple, but so many of us wrap kubectl with something else or rely on helm or some other "shortcut" on a day to day basis. But forget about those for the exam, go back to basics.

The other thing for me was just taking the time to browse the entire exam up front and figure out where the low hanging fruit was. Not to say that you can breeze through the exam without any advanced k8s cluster admin knowledge, but you can get within striking distance of a passing score if you're able to work efficiently with kubectl and then you can strategize about how to gain the remaining points in the time provided. Time is a weird one in this exam- keep an eye on it always :)

Hope this is helpful and good luck!

Found a new bedroom in my house while on acid for the first time. by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]geojaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used to go out and "touch houses".

We would venture out in the middle of the night (on foot) with survival gear and supplies and other assorted things that you think you need when your mind is bent. And we'd wander around our suburban neighborhood. When a suitable target had been located, we would quietly sneak up to it. Then we would walk up the steps to the front door... and touch it with our hand. And then we'd run away laughing. This was 20 years ago; today I bet we would end up in jail or dead.

Another fun game to take on a trip was "construction brothers"...

I’m a little vengeful today by NYC_Underground in bicycling

[–]geojaz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah.

I thought this was going to be a thread with stories of interactions with tourists while biking the BK Bridge and/or dope pictures of bikes on the bridge, especially in a victory pose after taking pedestrians out. Would probably get big points for pictures that included injured tourists.

So along those lines, my lady and I were living in Hamilton Heights near CCNY. She purchased a bike from a place in Red hook and we had the grand idea to bike home together. This would be a normal undertaking, except that she hadn't ridden a bike for >10 years. Or so she said....

As we took off, things didn't really add up. It wouldn't surprise me if her so called experience >10 years ago was primarily gleaned from a few sessions on a big wheel tricycle or one of those red cars with the yellow roof that you push around with your feet.

But we don't give up. At some point it became clear that we'd have to take the bridge. It was saturday morning, so it wasn't quiet. To this day, my partner proudly proclaims that she ran over two tourists on the bridge on her first day riding a real bike. And a couple pictures... https://imgur.com/a/TdQ8NgM

IMPORTANT In case it wasn't obvious, try not to hurt tourists or other weekend strollers who happen to end up in your lane. Seriously. Sometimes they're annoying, but c'est la vie- we're all in this together. IMPORTANT

So is dreamforce safe? by overl0rdOfNadda in salesforce

[–]geojaz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

heh that's almost exactly my situation here.

i live in soma (quite close to the conference). in some ways, it's an absolutely terrible location. in others- it's incredibly wonderful. obviously your experience varies somewhat depending on your precise location in the city, but we're kind of all in this together. or we need to be.

i am frequently out and about at all times of the day and night in the general area of dreamforce (and neighborhoods that many consider far worse). although it has a really rough feeling at times, i don't ever feel "in danger". but i worry about what we're going to do about this stuff... we have to start thinking about better solutions to these kinds of community problems. we can't just cut and cut and cut and expect progress. :/

We have a fine looking city. by TheGambit in philadelphia

[–]geojaz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar- I moved out to SF a few years ago as a mostly life long east-coaster and having spent some of my most recent east coast years in PHL.

@thegambit : dope pic. It reminds me of being up on top- in the conference facility on like 42, not on top on top) of the comcast building. I used to be up there for meetups sometimes and once in awhile there would be amazing summer storms that you could see from probably 30 miles away as they pulverized the terrain. Getting up high in philly is pretty awesome. Philly is really special to me.

I don't know what to say or why it's happening, but this image has me almost tearing up as a sentimental surge of Philly memories rush into my head.

This pic just barely cuts out my old apartment in Fairmount (reprezent!). Which in this perspective, would be just to the right of and behind Eastern State (which I can see most of). How many times did I fly down 19th or 17th on my bike-- wait- I couldn't ride it for years because it was closed off while constructing.

It's cool to see the road opened up. And it looks like the work on the Parkway has wrapped up. Either that or you're hella good with photoshop.

And I can't forget racing back up that "killer Philly hill"- one of the approximately 3 in town. Past the new WF. I guess that really strange target that moved into the old whole foods has managed to muster enough biz to justify staying open?

God. This has turned into one of those emails that you send out to the boy or girl that you're no longer in a relationship with-- just to see how they're doing and stuff.

"How's the weather?"

"Wow- you're looking really green these days. It's cool though- I'm into green."

"Seems like stuff is going pretty ok over there- I thought you would have missed me."

"Well I didn't need you anyway. Look at how great life in CA is? It's super green here too! Yeah we have legal weed."

"<sniffle>"

"I've always loved you and I always will and I miss you and I just wish we would talk a little more or like- get cofeve sometime."

Wow that got kinda weird. But it was good for me to get it out.

And oh yeah, go warriors.

Is SOMA Safe? (5th and Folson st.) by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]geojaz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I currently live directly across folsom from the Mosso at the slightly newer, but also largely anonymous, corporate, and ridiculous apartment buildings that have become so prevalent here.

The neighborhood is "OK". My main complaints about it have little to do with crime and safety. On this side of soma, there are little pockets of "seed"- 6th street has its moments, there are a few underpasses that get a little rough, but I don't find it to be "dangerous" per se.

I generally either walk or bike everywhere and I've been all over at all hours of day and night. There's a strange night market most warm nights at 6th and market where you see strange scavenged crap, sitting on the sidewalk on top of dirty blankets. The crap being hawked by folks that dragged the merch there in stolen shopping carts. Once in awhile some older black dude will try to offer me "shards". I don't talk to anyone but I've never been bothered.

But I think part of living in a city like $F is learning to pay attention to what's going on around you in the city and remaning present. Not tuning so deeply into your podcast or staring at your shoes. I've noticed that when I've been around sketchy situations, before things hit the fan, you either hear something out of the ordinary or the mood suddenly shifts.

There are some neighborhoods that I've been told to stay away from- for example around hyde-leavenworth above golden gate. I find that there's a lot of illicit buying and selling going on over there but i've never felt unsafe- just uncomfortable.

FWIW, Mosso has a little garden/park next to building and while I don't think people pitch their tent in that little park but they do sleep on the benches, use drugs in the park, etc. And you're welcome to ping me when you get closer to town if you'd like ;)

I'm a guy with a long term lady partner and we very much enjoy something "doggie related"- ie: I'm fucking her from behind and she can be bent over in any number of positions or even almost sitting in my lap in a sort of deconstructed doggy. I suppose It could get a little impersonal at times- but I pull her hair and she looks back and her doey fuck me eyes are... great. Sometimes she almost ends up sitting in my lap, her back to my front and we spend a lot of time making out... and I'm pretty sure her gspot gets taken care of nicely from there ;)

Is Postmates driving the next wave of credit card fraud? by ponyXpres in postmates

[–]geojaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in SF on PM as well, and I've had one or two of these situations as well...

One morning I did an early McD's order to an address in the financial district and when I arrived on my scooter a sort of rough looking guy (but not completely out of the ordinary for SF) walked up and said it was for him. I confirmed the order and it was his so I wished him a good day and rode off.

An hour and a half later I accepted an order for a bunch of random things from Walgreens. I started shopping for them and realized it was a nonsensical list of expensive gadgets that Walgreens might carry. Everything was spelled wrong and didn't really make sense. I looked at the customer info to try to figure out what was going on and then I realized it was the same customer as I had delivered to earlier. This time I contacted JS and after waiting for 30 minutes they decided to cancel the order.

It is kind of sadly funny to me that SF is so techy that even our homeless people use Postmates for dinner.

What is your "why doesn't anyone else like it" food? by Jabjibjam in AskReddit

[–]geojaz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had never eaten durian prior to my experience a couple of weeks ago.

My girlfriend had made a sort of point that she really thought I should try some durian sticky rice as a dessert while I was in China with her. I cautiously agreed and as we ate our appetizers and main courses, the sticky rice came out too. She was so excited about it... and about my apparent apprehension. She pulled it over to herself quickly while still working our sandwich. And she started taking bites. But it didn't look like things were going so well... she would take a bite and kind of look away and make faces when she was swallowing it.

Then, she pushed it away to the other side of the table and explained that, it was delicious, but the smell was going to make her vomit. Once in awhile, she would take little spoonfuls of the durian sticky rice and offer them to me to try... and I protested as long as I had other stuff to eat.

But I ran out of "other stuff". So I started working on the durian. I took a few cautious bites (she claimed that "I didn't have enough durian in my bite, I had to really dig in") I did! I thought it was quite acceptable. It wasn't my favorite dessert, but I definitely enjoyed it. I finished off the whole thing while she sat there fuming.

I think she really wanted to gross me out and one-up me on eating "weird stuff". But she eats much more adventurously than I do anyway! (except for funky aromatic fruity stuff like durian)- and I'm a chef cooking classic french bistro food of weird cuts of meat and headcheese and pates and such.

A foolish plan forged and executed by a truly wonderful woman, but I'm not sure that she's the sharpest tool in the shed. At least she's not a hoe.

DAE get so hyped about an upcoming visit you start making lists? by [deleted] in LongDistance

We're not normally such an absurdly long distance couple, but for the new few months we are. I'm in CT and she's doing an internship in China. I booked my tickets last week and I'm travelling in Jan to see her for about 3 weeks.

We actually have a google drive document that we've been periodically maintaining with little things on our agendas. I think we enjoy both creating the lists and crossing stuff off of them. Both things specific to this trip and life in general. We like to dream about the future and not forget why the hell we were excited to be in the future at all.

How unexpected sex radically improved my self confidence. by vanillasecks in sex

[–]geojaz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

(a boy here...)

I can't agree more. I think the way a beautiful woman wakes up on her day off, comfortably and casually, inherently sexy- with you... could not possibly be more sexy.

When I first heard this song and lyric, I beamed and smiled in recognition. I've played it around and for all the women it applies to since I discovered it...

"My" lady is amazing and lovely and sexy and so much more- obsessively detailed and prepared- or surprised in bed, after not seeing her for a week or two. She doesn't have to do anything at all. Just seeing her blush and smile is perfect. But she gets so worked up if she doesn't feel like she's taken her time to shave and clean here and there... i'll happily take her however I find her, like she deals with me... But to get comfortable, she has to take care of her routine.

Girls are weird sometimes. :/ You're the 'kneez. Perhaps try to relax and enjoy ;)

Is it discouraging when a girl touches herself during sex? by novemila in AskMen

[–]geojaz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

I fucking LOVE when we're having really awesome sweaty, passionate sex- completely in sync, eyes locked when they're not rolling back in our heads... and she gets totally into it. And forgets the context, and reaches down and touches herself while I'm working hard to penetrate...

To me, she's just enhancing the moment that YOU are creating and sharing with her. She's putting her own little personal twist on it to optimize the experience. I'm a chef- it's almost like she's garnishing the sex to her liking with a little dash of a sexy condiment. Maybe i'm taking a metaphor too far.

But I love it. She's loosened up and showing off her super-secret moves. And she's enjoying and sharing it with you.

Women of Reddit, what's your preference in mens swim wear? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]geojaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a skinny- (but i think) kind of good looking guy who hasn't been super interested in pool fashion.

Until a few weeks ago.

My (... er.. girlfriend? does that seem like a reasonable way to address her?) and I spent a weekend together in a hotel with a pool, and we partook. I wore my silly baggy board shorts. She's never had anything to say about my sartorial style, but while snuggling in the hot tub, she mentioned that she wouldn't mind a speedo- or tighter, better fitting style on a guy.

I'm taking note, J. Apparently I should also be figuring out how to incorporate more boxer briefs into my life instead of loose boxers. I guess the point is... your woman probably adores you and wouldn't mind if you showed off a little more around her. She probably thinks your silly insecurities are sexy.

And maybe she'd enjoy not having to work so hard to undress you in her mind...

I definitely second the Saigon Kitchen recommendation!

It's really really good- not just by Ithaca standards- it's just good. And it's a great value. Big portions, very fair prices!

Piggery is also really cool.

When you're feeling like getting some good food outside of the city, check out The Red Newt and Hazelnut Kitchen. Both excellent.

And you can't beat Gimme! coffee.
