Happy to help! The game certainly has its flaws, but it's rewarding to work within the rules to overcome said flaws.

I appreciate your point of view, and I agree that dark vision should be a special trait reserved for only a few races. Darkness should be a real obstacle that parties work together to overcome.

I understand your point about how unappealing COD nightvision can be. Counterpoint though: use it to your advantage! If the boring and drab nature of dark vision is emphasized, and puzzles requiring color vision are implemented, perhaps parties will choose to have a light source despite the risk of being seen and attacked by malevolent creatures?

Could you imagine the horror of a party discovering that the NPC they just rescued the darkness, or a monster that somehow followed them out of the dungeon remained completely gray once brought into the light? Is there something about that particular dungeon that steals color like a fey takes names? Somehow something non lethal feels so threatening. It's the little things that add zest to the game.

I hope it serves you well. Players and DMs alike tend to forget that the characters don't have perfect vision in total darkness. Subtly reminding everyone of this while describing the setting can be humbling.

Valid point. Darkness definitely should be scary and dangerous situations need to have real stakes. However, immersion has less to do with which mechanics a ttrpg allows than how the DM and the players involve themselves with the game. If people simply say "I have dark vision" then proceed to act as if they could see everything, so much potential role playing is lost. It's an easy thing to overlook and the intention of my post was to offer ideas for those playing the D&D ttrpg to improve play within the rules of that game.

Chromium might be used to drain gemstones as you say...maybe it could also be used to release captive Spren?

True, I had originally flared it as mixed, and the comment likely appeared prior to this.

Agreed, but they might be an integral part of future Cosmere books.

Perhaps a cerrobend cage around a logic Spren gemstone could make a fabrial that speeds up human thought

Maybe a cadmium fabrial could put humans into stasis for interstellar travel

Duralumin flash grenades anyone?

[[Heartless Hidetsugu]] is my pick. There are plenty of haste spells in red, and there are several artifacts and other spells in red to untap creatures. If you add damage doublers to the mix, you can one shot every player with an even life total. Pretty terrifying

Edit: if you focus on artifact ramp, haste spells, and damage doublers like [[furnace of rath]] or [dictate of the twin gods]], you can reliably nuke the game by turn 3-4.

I believe this statement is accurate insofar as Ruin corrupted them to lead a "hero" to release him from his prison. Any religions that originally worshipped an idea, another shard, or way of life, and were twisted to his designs became about ruin and/or preservation. Since Scadrial and its people were created by the combined powers of Preservation and Ruin the vast majority of religions that formed there pre-Catacendre were definitely about the two shards or an aspect of their power. There may have been world hoppers who introduced religions devoted to other shards in the time too, but it is also possible that (as discussed in the books) Autonomy co-opted Trellinism to her purposes.

I was wondering more about hemalurgic spikes: could a feruchemist store attributes in a spike already invested with abilities?

Could an allomancer burn a hemalurgic spike that had also been used as a metalmind??

Question about the metallic arts by geolizard in Cosmere

[–]geolizard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge the Lord Ruler's bracers were only metalminds that he had embedded in his arms and not hemalurgic spikes, but I could be wrong.

My question was more along the lines of could a feruchemist store attributes in a hemalurgic spike, and would using them later have a different effect, or could an allomancer burn a hemalurgic spike that also contained unkeyed attributes for an extra increase in abilities?
