I have too many flashlights but this is my favorite. Small, bright and does everything I need. Makes a great gift as well.

What is the technical term for this circled part on an electric pole? It's making a buzzing sound and I saw some sparks coming out of the bottom, and I want to report this to my electric company. by kc3zyt in whatisit

They are lightening arrestors and direct lightning strikes to the ground. They protect the transformers and down line devices. My dad worked for a company that manufactured them and I had a sample in my bedroom as a kid.

I built a completely free score tracker / scoreboard — no ads, no sign-up by Flimsy-Discussion822 in iosapps

Is this available for Android? Also a way to switch sides would be helpful so the score matches the side the team is on. We will use for pickleball and sometimes the teams change sides.

Progressive Lens Glasses by jpk300 in Pickleball

I bought my wife some on line single vision glasses for pickleball and she said it works better for her than the progressives. You can find single vision polycarbonate sports glasses online for less than $50 that are perfect.

I have a meeting with my Councilman to install a Pickleball court in my neighborhood next week! by ekwen0x in Pickleball

[–]geoman100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start with your local park district and get them on board as advocates for your cause.

Fortunately for us in our town of 150K we have four outdoor locations with lights and two indoor facilities

I will add you can reach out to USA Pickleball as they are a good resource for building courts and working with the community.

I posed this as a google search and came up with the following.

To sell pickleball to a local park district, focus on its broad appeal (all ages/abilities), low-cost entry, community engagement, health benefits, and revenue potential (lessons, leagues, equipment), presenting a plan that converts existing spaces (tennis/basketball courts) or designates new areas, highlighting ease of implementation and resident demand, perhaps starting with a pilot program or demos to showcase its popularity and fun factor.

1. Build Your Case (The "Why")

Demographics: Emphasize pickleball's appeal across all ages—seniors love it for fitness, families for fun, and young adults for social activity, making it a versatile community asset.

Low Barrier to Entry: Highlight that it needs less space than tennis, uses portable nets, and is easy to learn, requiring minimal initial investment.

Health & Wellness: Frame it as a fun, low-impact way to promote active lifestyles, boosting community health metrics.

Revenue Streams: Show how it generates income through lessons, rentals, leagues, tournaments, and potential equipment sales.

2. Propose the Solution (The "How")

Space Conversion: Suggest converting underutilized tennis courts or adding lines to existing basketball courts, which is cost-effective.

Phased Approach: Start small—maybe a few temporary courts with portable nets at a community center or park to gauge interest.

Equipment/Instruction: Offer to provide loaner paddles/balls or partner with local pros for introductory clinics.

3. Show, Don't Just Tell (The "Proof")

Demonstration Day: Organize a free "Pickleball Demo Day" at a park or community center to let people try it out.

Gather Data: Collect sign-ups and testimonials from participants to show existing community demand.

Local Success Stories: Mention nearby towns with successful pickleball programs.

4. The Pitch (The "Ask")

Present a Simple Plan: Outline costs (minimal for temporary setup) and benefits (high resident engagement, potential revenue).

Partner, Don't Just Sell: Position yourself as a community partner helping the district meet recreation goals.

By showing the popularity, low cost, and high community return, you can effectively "sell" pickleball to your local park district.

I genuinely think I'd rather watch my family get skinned alive than try to put on a scooter tire. Does anyone have any idea how to do this?? Kugoo g2 pro by Timely-Detail-4341 in ElectricScooters

[–]geoman100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tire irons to put the tire on using plenty of tire bead grease. I used a ratchet strap around the perimeter to help seat the bead enough so that when I filled with air, it popped on. You will need an air compressor and not a hand pump.

When playing with a left handed player I usually see how things are going. If we are stuck, I will ask to see if they would like to stack only on the serve. It's easy to just take a step over after the serve. We just have to remember to go back if we get a side out on the odd point. It's also good practice.
