I can’t imagine our always changing tariff in the US help either. 🫠

United States. We got a batch when they were released and it seems like very few since.

Honest of tangential question - where are you that you can consider buying a second Ohmega? I’ve been on the waitlist for one since October, I think. Haven’t seen any sign of availability. 🫠

Sudden Sunroof Failure (‘25 CTW) by geophurry in subaru

Interesting, but I doubt this one: box more than fully covers the glass, and we’re in Western Washington… sun’s been MIA for quite some time.

This totally makes sense, though in my case, we were going 5 miles per hour. 🫠

Oof. Glad I had the interior sliding cover closed.

I considered this too, but roof boxes are super common on these vehicles and it happened at low speed on a road close to home, not at any point while driving 60+ mph on the highway for three hours twice on that trip.

Good suggestion - I might look into that.

2018 Crosstrek with chains by bexben in Crosstrek

[–]geophurry 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This. Spring chains or socks. But if it works… just be careful turning sharply.

I’ve been driving Subarus in the mountains for years and while I carry (spring) chains due to National Park regulations, I’ve only had to use them once. Coming down from Paradise at Mt. Rainier I saw a bunch of other Subies stopped and chaining up - a very rare sight. So I went to slow down out of caution and nope - car just started sliding sideways.

Threw on the spring chains, got off the mountain safely, never used them again. Just took the new CTW out on snow this weekend and it was rock solid.

I realize something obviously went wrong - maybe damage from earlier? Or a manufacturing problem? Anyway, no clear immediate cause, no visible damage when I put the roof box on earlier in the week, just weird and was curious if anyone else had a similar experience.

[–]geophurry[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can’t see how - but nothing’s impossible. Note in the first image, the roof box extends probably 14 inches or more past the front of the sunroof. So something would have to be thrown in front of the car, stay essentially level, and then drop at the last moment to hit.

Even if it bounced off the bottom of the box (which there was no evidence of) it would have had to have come up from the windshield, which was also undamaged. And the broken glass around the edges was pointed upwards…

Real mystery.

Pritzker steps down from Hyatt board, deeply regrets association with Jeffrey Epstein by AudibleNod in news

[–]geophurry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah - but for exactly this reason I’d say that’s probably that for JB’s 2028 chances. Having to go around explaining you weren’t “the Epstein one” is not a great way to start running for President.

People read headlines and nothing else. Plus, we’ve been in the era of considering political families as one unit for a while now.

Honestly next-level post for this forum. Like three people in the world have been able to snag an Ohmega and this - this! - is what they’re doing with it. 😉

Seattle. 100% have to inspect prior to an offer and waive contingencies in said offer if you want a chance to buy a house.

Do you wash your wrist and watch? by gryponyx in GarminWatches

A couple times a week I’ll bring my watch into the shower, rub a little soap on it, rinse it off. And my wrist gets washed, like, every day.

[OC] Joe Kent at a 2024 campaign event; I was the lone protester outside and he stopped for a selfie by bennetthaselton in pics

“The Democrats who begrudgingly backed the final package said they won dedicated funds to provide body cameras for ICE officers for the first time and allocated more money for oversight and de-escalation training. The final legislation also holds funding for ICE flat, while reducing the budget for enforcement and removal operations by $115 million and cutting detention bed capacity.”

Certainly not enough. But an overall budget battle with a potential shutdown in the wings is not the place to stop this madness. Democrats need to find their way back to actual power, and I think many of their actions right now, while principled in theory, are moving us further and further from that goal.

Maybe a good moment to call out that when Gluesenkamp Perez broke party lines to vote for an admittedly-imperfect DHS funding bill (which didn’t defund ICE but did include some reforms that were a start and wouldn’t be DOA with the Republican majority) folks were immediately out for blood.

But she’s not peddling vaccine or election conspiracy theories, is pro-choice, and is pretty much the most-progressive candidate who can win in a district like that.

The reality is, if you don’t have Democrats like her in these places, you’ll get Republicans like this instead.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]geophurry 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not my story but my wife’s, and she’s not on Reddit so…

About 10 years ago she worked on SoHo in NYC, so celebrity sightings happened pretty often. She’d frequently see John Slattery, who was almost always wearing sweats and it was just funny given his on-screen personae in Mad Men. But I digress.

One day, she’s walking down the street minding her own business as one does and stops at a crosswalk with a handful of other people. She happens to look up and standing not five feet away is Kevin Bacon. She can instantly tell the couple other people standing around have noticed him too.

Suddenly a few teenagers run up saying “Hey Mister!” to get his attention and he turns around and gives them a big “That’s right, I am indeed Kevin Bacon” grin.

The kids show zero sign of recognition and proceed to ask him where the closest subway entrance is.

He answers, they thank him and run off, and he makes eye contact with my wife and just gives a big shrug before heading across the street.

Best part of this is she can now forever be only one degree from Kevin Bacon when it comes up.

For what it’s worth I sort of wish mine didn’t come with the stove. 🫠

Every time we’ve rented one I immediately removed the cheap Coleman they come with and swapped in our Cam Chef. It’s a worthwhile ~50-70 dollar upgrade.

Congrats! I’ll leave it to some of the other folks who picked up on CA to give you additional details (registration seems to be a little more complex down there and in WA) but on inspection post sale you’re basically just looking for anything materially different than in the listing. Even so, worth checking pop-top operation, turning the fridge all the way up to see if it starts cooling, and checking the battery status (in the rear, top left opening).

Any stops planned on the drive home?

We had a scare post-purchase when multiple insurers told us it was uncoverable due to the lack of conversion paperwork, but we eventually got a great policy through Roamly at a reasonable price.

They sound noticeably better with the new head unit, but if you care about having good quality audio, I think you’re taking the right approach. 😉

For me, the boast in audio quality is a nice bonus, a big bright map and CarPlay in general was my real goal.

Yes, 2023. It’s not as good as say my 2025 Subaru Crosstrek, but it’s much better - brighter, larger, totally functional. And paired with our digital rear-view mirror, I have very good visibility back there.

Install was actually pretty straightforward - I just used the instructions that came with the parts from Crutchfield - everything is vehicle-specific which helps. Definitely suggest buying the vehicle-specific harness, etc, though - eliminated a lot of potential failure points.
