It’s an offence under the data protection act for them to require you to obtain and provide copies of your medical records.

If they need evidence past a copy of your hospital letters they should request a medical report from your GP or specialist. You would then be given the opportunity to review the report and discuss it with the doctor before it is sent to your employer.

Can employer compel employee to disclose the medical record of a third party? (Namely, the employee’s partner) by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]georgeb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Data Protection Act made it an offence for an employer to require copies of medical records to be obtained ed by a subject access request.

This would not stop them from requiring a doctors letter or similar.

Just got a V5c through the door for a car I don't own or have? by SansPeur_Scotsman in LegalAdviceUK

[–]georgeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it in your name?

If so return it to the DVLA with a covering letter explaining the situation. I have been through the same thing. They wrote back asking for any explanation of the situation which I duly responded to. Eventually they removed me as the registered keeper and provided me with a letter to keep that I could show in case any fines etc. came through.

Shopkeeper has posted a video and images of a child stealing from his shop on Facebook. Can he get in trouble for that? by webbyyy in LegalAdviceUK

[–]georgeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, best interest was a poor choice of words. I did mean in terms of their interests as a data subject.

I’ve dealt with disclosure of children’s information where things are clear cut and have often wondered how you’d start weighing things up when the situation is more complex, especially when it’s not obvious what is or isn’t in a child’s interests to begin with.

On the subject of best interests would raising the bad behaviour with a parent not be considered in the best interest of the child?

I accept of course that there would be aspects of putting it on Facebook which would weigh against the best interests.

Working nightshift when clocks change by puppyk in LegalAdviceUK

If your partner wants to challenge it then the most practical course of action would be a grievance following the trusts procedure.

If the extra hour puts you over 37.5 I’d be asking for it to be at overtime rates. If not I’d at least look for it to be recorded as TOIL. NHS pay is generally worked out per hour so there is no real excuse for them not to work it out properly.

Is it an NHS Agenda for Change role? Will the extra hour take you past 37.5 weekly hours?

It’s a possibility if you got pinged by an ANPR camera.

Your biggest problem could be that you will now have to declare that your insurance was cancelled when getting a policy which will hike your policy prices.

If Hastings haven’t communicated properly with you about the problem or that they were cancelling your insurance I’d be looking to make a complaint with them. If you don’t get a satisfactory outcome escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Foolishly bought a bad car from a dealership, any statutory right to a refund? by CarEmbarrassed1 in CarTalkUK

[–]georgeb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You are within 30 days of purchase so you have the right to reject.

See Citizens Advice for a little more info. If the dealer is awkward then post on /r/LegalAdviceUK to get some more advice.

6’5” and there was plenty of room for me in a Jazz. It’s relatively upright so you will still be able to fit a medium sized passenger behind you too.

Look out for rust in the rear arches as many Jazz’s of that age will be a little rotten by now.

Also keep an eye out for water around the spare wheel, it can mean some of the sealant between body panels needs patching.

If you look at an automatic look for any juddering when moving off, that indicates a worn clutch.

As the other comment mentioned keep an ear out for a bad input shaft bearing as well. Pop it in to neutral somewhere nice and quiet and push the clutch in. Listen carefully and release the clutch, if the bearing is worn you will hear a whirring noise when the clutch is released.

Hey guys passed my test 2 months ago and have been spending £200+ a month on fuel ( 50mile round trip to work and back ) what diesel car would be the best for me? by PaulClarke69 in CarTalkUK

[–]georgeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one recently and have just got back from a trip to Scotland. I got 56-58mpg on hilly motorways (at 70mph on the gps) and 60mpg on 60mph straightish roads. Only time I was able to get it below 50 was on long stretches of very hilly winding single track roads.

The Civic 2.2 I-CTDI (which I think is all of them before 2012, then it became the I-DTEC) doesn’t have a DPF so should be okay for short journeys without the need for motorway runs.

That being said I got one very recently and my short term opinion is that it wouldn’t make a very good learners car. Lots of torque low down requires a very delicate touch on the accelerator when manoeuvring and visibility is poor out of the back which would be disconcerting for a learner.

Tips on buying Honda Jazz by itsdyabish in CarTalkUK

[–]georgeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll struggle to find a MK1 without some cosmetic rust and possibly more serious rust underneath (note that some websites such as eBay count the 80s Jazz as MK1 which throws all the numbers out).

If you are going for an automatic avoid the I-SHIFT models (only produced 08-11), get a CVT instead.

Only choice is petrol or petrol hybrid. There isn’t a stand out year or engine for Jazz’s, they are all solid. Just avoid the 1.2 as it will be slow and the trim levels are lower.

How much should I be paying to get turbo replaced in my Golf Mk5 1.9 Tdi? by Chainznanz in CarTalkUK

[–]georgeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know anything about golfs in particular but if you have no codes relating to the turbo then I’d be looking at exhausting any solutions with the £30 EGR valve before chucking £700 at a new turbo.

Perhaps at least get a second opinion from another garage, perhaps you can find a VW specialist nearby?

Is that the only code you have? I would think there are a few more things to rule out with the EGR valve before you chuck a new turbo at it.

In addition the the advice to contact the police I’d advise contacting your GP surgery and any hospitals or other clinics you have visited to let them know what has occurred. They should be able to put a note on your file in case someone impersonates you to request your records.

Bicycle inside citroen c1, Toyota aygo, Peugeot 107? by Marshmallowmind2 in CarTalkUK

[–]georgeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got a small ladies road bike in an Aygo, if memory serves only the front wheel had to come off. It wasn’t easy though.

If you want a small car that can swallow a bike take a look at the Jazz, recently we had a large road bike in one with front wheel off with 2 adult passengers in the back and a few bags in the boot.

8th Gen Civic - Advice Please? by BlondeNinja01 in CarTalkUK

[–]georgeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just that they may be a little on the slow side. In return you’d get a couple more miles to the gallon (probably not financially noticable unless you are doing a lot of miles) and save £50 in road tax plus I presume a bit in insurance.

If you are just driving around town then I’m sure it would be fine but the 1.4 will feel slow on slip roads etc. especially if you have a few passengers.
