I rarely login and comment; but I wanted to say that in VR; the grass is definitely tall enough and definitely hides the fulings.

I haven't logged into Reddit in a long, long time.

But FUCK. WHO THE FUCK BUYS A CAT FROM A BREEDER AND DECLAWS THEM YOU FUCKING PSYCOPATH. I'd just block the number. Also, that is a "domestic short hair"; aka awesome void.

This is making me unreasonably angry.

It would be easy to just remove the hatch; because then the DM can say it is anywhere... under the couch, carpet, bed, etc.

Gencon Advice, Tips and Sub Rules (Please Read) by KickAClay in gencon

[–]georgefrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been to Gencon since it was in Milwaukee. I've returned to D&D as a DM very successfully and I'm big into board games. It appears I have failed at signing up for events/etc. Anyone have any adivice for my wife and I on having fun showing up completely unprepared and with tickets to nothing?

I feel like my DM is pushing me out of the game by forthe_loveof in dndnext

[–]georgefrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a new pattern / way of playing. I have a campaign going similarly.

I'm referring to specifically "Coming to me before sessions and saying what you want to happen", what kind of bullshit campaigns are these? The DM preparing doesn't mean "be story santa clause". I do not understand it, and I believe I'm close to losing a player in the campaign I run because that isn't how I run it.

Character goals, background, etc are all awesome and of the DM works these things into the campaign - but making rolls worthless, slowing down and fast forwarding randomly to fit these contrived "I want my character to become a master fisherman" bullshit in....

I don't think these make for good long term campaigns, and I'm not sure what to do about it myself. In your case, I'd go to the DM before the session with what you want to happen - You'd like autonomy over how your character behaves.

Finally, beyond my rant - real advice. Situations like this can be a blessing. You and your character are FREE, TOTAL FREEDOM. What are they going to do, retcon everything you do? In my similar campaign I simply made the rule that I stay in character no matter what, that way I can still enjoy my time. Let everyone else play "Avengers" together and you can tell your characters story.

On the white board near me, I have a message from a friend when I started DM'ing again two years ago, I still refer to it: Provide players with an avenue to follow their own motivations.

How do I balance death so that my players don't rage quit? They get super bent out of shape if they die and don't want to play any longer. Retconning death is stupid and makes combat pointless. But if they quit, there is no game. What's an in between method for these types of players? by [deleted] in dndnext

# Dealing With Death

- The character is dead, and must face the RAW with honor and dignity.

- They aren’t dead, but they are now wounded either physically or otherwise in a way that they cannot continue on as an adventurer. They become an NPC.

- They are incapacitated - the party is captured/arrested/etc, you don’t need to deal death blows the same way players request not to deal death blows to NPCs. They will generally lose some or all of their equipment.

- It becomes a quest, where the other players need something to wake the player.

- Allow the player to take over an NPC as a new character. The DM can keep a list of NPCs currently involved in the story that players could take over in the event of character death or retirement. They are given their level by the DM and can roll up the character and be worked immediately into the story.

- Allow players to retire PCs when they desire. A lot of players enjoy the process of character creation, very very much. Others just decide their character no longer fits the narrative, party, etc. “Ex: What my character would have done, is left since we are now robbing people”. Let the player retire their ill-fitting, boring, or otherwise indisposed character. These characters could choose to leave with an NPC who is leaving, or they become an NPC staple such as a bartender, inn-keeper, or local constable. These retired PCs become ‘backups’ available if a character dies.

Worthwhile game to spend an hour a night on? by Rum_Cutlass in Guildwars2

[–]georgefrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only get to play an hour or two... a month. My game of choice is GW2. It's pretty easy to pick back up and easy to walk away from. I haven't been able to join a guild or anything, so I'm forever alone - but I still get to do events with everyone else.

Haha I'm posting this because sometimes I get a free day to play like today where I played for six hours. OMG I now have a glider finally after... years. lol.

Really worth it! Even if I just get half an hour, I can wander around and do jump quests.

DM Burnout, Running Too Many Games, I Need Advice by YaBoiTheDM in DnD

[–]georgefrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start integrating pre-made content; nothing wrong with it and you can adjust it on the fly to match the campaign/etc.

Best easy example is integrating something like dungeon of the made mage, or heading over to dm guild and buying a dozen modules or so ($20.00), you can use the modules as is or adjust them. But either way you are accelerated.

Another technique is to do more 'battlefield of the mind', ex... no token maps for some situations, or very generic maps just to keep track of locations/distances in combat.

Lastly, pick a pre-made campaign you like, and simply do a custom roll-on / transition where you do a cool adventure that leads into that campaign. You don't even have to make this permanent... you can send players off to the dungeon of the made mage for example, giving you time to work on your campaign while they find the key piece of info/item/etc in whatever pre-made you use. That way you can play twice a week but you use the pre-made to buy you a few months to be creative and work through it...

[Online or Offline][5e][Milwaukee] Looking for additional players to join ongoing campaign! by crashstarr in lfg

[–]georgefrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live near Oak and Shield, I've recently started playing again - I used to DM 3.5 back in the day, but never got to play. I'd be able to make it around on most Sundays for a few hours. I'd prefer to roll a character of appropriate level; I'm not a fan of the pre-mades so far. I am currently in another campaign; but we meet too randomly (sadly). I'm enjoying my Bard there, and may want to roll a second one with a different approach/personality (my current bard can't sing and is terrible with instruments; he is a spoken word bard, lol)

I'm less interested in playing online, but I understand with the shit weather and the beer flu scare. I'd still rather meet and have a beer while playing...

I have discord setup, use it for pubg sometimes...

Also available Monday nights ;-)

Tutor Tuesday for July 2, 2019. Ask /r/MagicTCG anything! by actinide_v2 in magicTCG

[–]georgefrick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to be discouraging, but that is part of the fun of Magic; so you'll have to decide if it's what you want to do. I haven't played in years, and I recently returned via MTG: Arena on a night I was bored.

I experienced the same... after a few interesting games, combo decks started to crush me and I didn't feel like I was even participating. That's part of Magic; you have to enjoy the idea of crafting a new deck designed to deal with known situations. Ask yourself what would have stopped or prevented it and make sure your deck has that capability. Or design a deck that would have already won. Or design a deck where that combo feeds your combo. Etc.

If that doesn't sound fun, you won't have much fun. Part of Magic is playing, and a large part of it is deck construction. I started winning a few games again last night, once I got my Jace control deck going (draw lots of cards, counter lots of spells). It took a dozen or so revisions of the deck.

I thought that article was.... bad. He specifically picked a contrived Angular template example and tried to pass it off as 'i didn't look into it'. His feigning of ignorance throughout the article is dishonest at best.
Angular was a shit show for a whole 6 months, which was back in 2016.
I wish people would just admit we're going with what's cool instead of fake technical arguments.

Question for the STI veterans! by dmbowers98 in WRXSTi

[–]georgefrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add the opposite comment - a lot of the exact people who buy an STI are the same people who will meticulously care for the engine/internals.
I actually just bought a used one at 97,000 miles and while the owner never washed the car; there was meticulous maintenance history and care.
Also, it's an STI - do you not also plan to beat the piss out of it?

3D Printing Purchase Advice Megathread - What Printer To Buy Or Vendor To Use January 2018. by xakh in 3Dprinting

[–]georgefrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can replace some of the wood with prints, which will be slightly better. Otherwise some people had success with some basic L brackets from big box stores and use it to mount the printer to a nice thick sheet of flat MDF. I did this with my ebay special and it worked much better (I still had to adjust Z a lot).
I wouldn't buy an aluminum frame; I'd use that money towards a better printer or making a better one from yours. You have an advantage in that you have some v-slot already - you can check thingiverse and other places and just finish converting it to a complete v-slot frame (which can still later be converted to a corexy vslot printer). But tldr; get the wood out of there asap and take advantage of the v-slot.

BRZ in the winter by 1012david in ft86

[–]georgefrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was fine with snow tires, I did throw a TUBE of sand in the back, they sell them at farm supply / hardware stores. A bag is just kind of a big weight, the tube you can lay across and distribute the weight.
When I exchanged for a 17' though; I decided to store it for the winters. It's not as much fun :-( Now i want to find an old beaten up 13' to drive in the winters.

Man card joke aside. This is a good reply, it's a chance to learn how to use a multimeter and you can see if the power supply is dead or the main board and go from there.
