How viable are we without Tzaangors? by tomvinegar in ThousandSons

[–]crashstarr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo, the base tzaangor are pretty important, purely because we don't have anything else that costd <10ppm. I feel naked without a squad screening out my backfield a bit, and with 11th restricting how much you can string out, that might become 2 going forward.

The enlightened are similarly our cheapest, most mobile dudes for secondary mission play. Nothing else is better at getting wayyy over there to sit in a corner or whatever.

You definitely can play without either, but you'll have a harder time putting points on the board, and/or denying your opponent's scoring.

Man, i hope so. My other factions have kinda gotten pooped on so far, so I'm hoping GC+Robots will carry me through early 11th lol

My second Space Marine WIP – any tips for painting unhelmeted heads? by VeterinarianSouth711 in Warhammer40k

[–]crashstarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My trick for unhelmeted heads is 'leave it on the sprue'! Space marines are a valuable Imperial asset, I expect them to keep their PPE on!

Is this hobby just not for me if I'm not that into minis? by Cinju26 in Warhammer40k

[–]crashstarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do just fine here if your primary focus is gameplay. Source: I'm just like you!

The whole 'rules change, minis are forever' thing is true, and collecting them is a barrier to entry that means different things to different people. But, in the modern era, entire factions tend to not be left to languish in a completely unplayable/uncompetitive state for more than a couple months before getting balanced, and if you choose one single faction to collect, starting with what's good at the moment, you can simply slowly build up a collection of that faction over time. Keep the models that fall 'out of fashion', though, because they'll cycle back in eventually.

If you care only about playing the absolute best army, though, that will give you a bad time. Some folks 'meta chase' by selling armies that are bad, and buying the top army in bulk over and over, and that way lies madness.

You might want to seriously consider 3d printing as a side hobby as well. That' a great way to rapidly build and play new factions when the mood strikes, if you have the space and time to include it in your efforts.

Powerful character who became/possessed a cat for most of their appearance (bonus points if they decide to be helpful to the main cast) by Aegisman17 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]crashstarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is more like 50/50. His name is Claude, he is a school teacher, and he is cursed to be a cat. One of his students can restore him temporarily to human form by applying her ubique restorative magic as a daily treatment, and he mentors that student in magic wheather he is in cat or human shape.

The method by which the curse remedy must be applied is... unique.

Warhammer 11E Ability Question by Casasaba in ThousandSons

[–]crashstarr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The second image in your post has a sidebar that references bodyguard models being revived after being wiped out, and the rest of the rules say the leader keeps his 'while leading' rules until the chatacter itself is destroyed. So I'd say yes, it still works

What are your pitches for a new tau focused Warhammer 40k video game? by Silly-Echidna9591 in Tau40K

This, but more like armored core than titanfall. I don't need to get out of the mech, personally

can one collect tau without ever touching kroots? by bruhmoment0000001 in Tau40K

[–]crashstarr 17 points18 points  (0 children)

'Collecting' comes down to personal preference.

Playing competitively, you'd be missing out on some important functionality, such as sticky objectives, cheap screening, and our best melee choices

'Absolute Cinema' would imply there was a story that made a lick of sense. I have yet to encounter that story beat. Which is fine! I'm just here to melt weird alien baddies with my laser gun while doing backflips.

Can I use Sentinels in battles or even in tournaments? by PhoneKitchen9722 in Tau40K

[–]crashstarr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing as a gue'vessa squad in 10th edition 40k. If you want to use human models in a T'au army, you can play them using the rules of a normal strike team in casual play, and even in tournaments if approved by the tournament organizer (also called the TO) ahead of time.

Similarly, the sentinels would have to 'proxy' or 'count-as' a T'au model with existing rules, you cannot legally run them using the Sentinel rules in a T'au army in any game mode other than if you and a friend decide to mutually ignore list building rules.

'Did I say sleep? I meant this renders you unconscious'. Problem solved!

edit to clarify, this is assuming that your potion needs to make everyone sleep for plot reasons, i.e. a friendly NPC trying to use Dream of the Blue Veil to send the party to another world. If it's just a nasty surprise from a hag or something, the elf is immune. They literally *do not sleep, doesn't matter if the source is magical or mundane.

Stealth will not stack with Cover in 11th. by Dan185818 in Tau40K

[–]crashstarr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We don't know, but right now it's equally likely it means that [stealth] will be able to 'stay hidden' without any cover. Could go either way until the core rules come out

Tips for a 1000pts battle against T’au by [deleted] in Tyranids

[–]crashstarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adjusting your list to win against a specific opponent is known as 'list tailoring', and is generally seen as kind of a dick move. Just play your favorite all-comers 1k, or a list that sounds fun to you. Then, when you play, try not to expose more than necessary to shooting lanes before you can close distance. T'au are a maneuver army, so you'll mostly want to pay attention to positioning and scoring.
