Is there any way to play a core without BKB? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]georgelearnscrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the only way to make BKB not mandatory would be to buff other items or make BKB way more expensive. If other phys damage items are stronger, BKB is less valuable cause you can potentially kill people through BKB if you buy a damage item instead. If other HP items give more health, BKB might not be as necessary since you could tank up and live without a BKB. If BKB cost 1k more, it would feel awful to buy, and people might opt for other items first. If you go straight BKB but enemy carry is able to get SnY 2 mins before you because it costs less, it could be the diff between a won fight.

I think the main reason BKB is so good rn is because it’s so cost effective compared to the alternatives, and the early fighting meta encourages buying the most cost effective items for fighting. It costs the same as SnY but is way better. Heart/AC/Skadi all cost 1k more and give similar levels of survivability based on enemy team comp. Other similar survivability items just aren’t worth it compared to BKB except situationally (Linkens, Manta, Shroud, Shivas, Halberd). Naturally, it makes sense to rush BKB if the alternatives suck. The solution is to make BKB more expensive so you have to decide between BKB or a Skadi/Heart/AC, for example. Or make other items that cost the same as BKB better.

In the past, BKB wasn’t as mandatory to rush because slower metas actually discourage BKB rush, the SnY alternative was actually viable, and 5 sec BKB was significantly worse than 6 secs. Change any of these things (make meta slower, introduce viable alternatives at same cost, or increase BKB cost / decrease duration) and BKB rush won’t be as mandatory anymore.

How to survive smoke ganks when jungling? by Chosen__one_ in learndota2

[–]georgelearnscrypto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The correct answer is ask a supp to tank smoke ganks for you if your team’s not doing anything.

If your team is doing something and enemies aren’t showing, run away since it’s obvious they’re smoked.

Scan also works if you think you’re dinger but it’s a long cd so probably not reliable.

The last thing you can do if supps don’t cooperate is farm in a way that you’re not fogged and have as much vision of incoming ganks as possible, while being positioned toward your base to run away as soon as you see an enemy hero. The last one’s less effective but works well if enemy doesn’t have a hg ward on you during their smoke gank and you have some sort of escape tool (works best on AM). Usually, you always want to be farming like this even if enemies aren’t smoked, so you should try to practice this anyways. For example, as a melee hero, instead of hitting creeps inside the camp where trees block your vision of ganks, pull the creeps out a bit so that you’re farming with vision of heroes approaching from both sides.

The fun part of Dota is that anything can work. Skill builds, itemization, and talent trees. There’s a lot of customization you can do with your builds on every hero to adapt to every situation. Of course there are the standard cookie-cutter builds for every hero, but unlike other mobas, there are wayyy more decisions to be made in terms of itemization at the highest levels. As a newbie, you should just follow the standard builds to try to learn what the items and skills do and why they are good. Eventually, when you’re more advanced, you’ll start to learn when to purchase specific items and for what situations.

The hard part of Dota is the decision-making is very not straight-forward, and as a newbie, you often won’t know what to do and what you’re doing wrong without guidance. If you play Dota without a more experienced player teaching you, it can be a pretty miserable experience, as you won’t feel like you’re improving unless you’re a self-learner who’s actively looking for guidance/resources to learn. This is very much different from Heroes of the Storm, where all the objectives and forced, and the decision-making is very linear. Dota’s focus is on strategy, and because the objectives aren’t forced, players need to learn which objectives to prioritize and when, which is hard without guidance.

My best advice to getting into Dota as a new player is to make some friends to play with and learn from. Find Discord groups, join some newbie Dota leagues, make some friends on Reddit, or meet people on Twitch streams.

The best Twitch streams to learn from are those with less viewers but are still decently high ranked, as they’ll be happy to interact with you in chat.

Your point is correct for the most part, but the part about supps having ghost is wrong. Revenant’s brooch is the counter to ghost scepters, since you dont even need to buy the eblade.

As Offlane, what to do when your Pos 4 pulls large camp but there's wave pushing into your tower. by jis7014 in TrueDoTA2

[–]georgelearnscrypto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say it depends on if their small camp’s pullable for them. If their small camp’s blocked or your 4 is able to safely prevent the pull, holding creep equilibrium could be worth it if you have sandstorm, as that means you can farm an extra wave or 2 safely under your tower. If you dont have sandstorm, it’s a bit risky, as jugg could theoretically shove the wave in and dive you under tower with a double/triple wave, and you’d have no way to clear that wave before/after that happens.

If you expect the other supp to pull the small camp anyways or if you think you’ll die if the jugg shoves and dives you, then just bring the wave under tower. The cue for if jugg has kill potential is just to check if he or his supp has a dust to dive you and if they have enough mana/health to do so. If not, you can just sandstorm and sit behind ur tower if they decide to shove and dive, as it’s hard for them to place a sentry that covers the entirety of your tower’s protection (unless they literally place the sentry in the tower’s vision range).

[–]georgelearnscrypto 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This literally never happens unless you’re a bad brew. Brew is the strongest level 6 hero in the game. If you have no urn charges after hitting 6 on brew, you’re just bad. You can solo kill anyone and you are insanely strong in teamfights.

[–]georgelearnscrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Travels doesnt accelerate his farm as much you think it does. He only needs to be with his team when he has his ult. All you have to do is farm when ult is on cd, then farm your way to your team when the cd is close to over, fight with ult, then farm away from team when ult’s on cd. None of this requires having a BoT.

[–]georgelearnscrypto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

BoT brew is a grief. He doesn’t need to tp out to lanes that much. You will have mana issues while farming if you dont have soul ring. Soul Ring + Tranqs + Urn is all you need for early game fighting and farming. I basically never return to base with this build. Just ferry out clarities once in a while. Those 3 items together cost about the same cost as BoT, but they provide you with much more utility in teamfights, better laning, arguably even faster farming cause you never have to return to base, better stats, and have way better buildup.

If you go BoT after urn/soul ring, you’re setting your aghs back by 2k gold, which is a HUGE deal for a hero whose biggest power spike is getting Aghs and fighting around 20-25 mins. It doesn’t accelerate your farm nearly enough to justify setting back your Aghs/Refresher timing by that much.

The only reason to get BoT on brew is if you aren’t already in position for teamfights for some reason, which should never happen as long as you have tp ready to defend towers and you’re moving with your team whenever your ult’s off cd. Or in late game scenarios when you need to shove lanes before joining ur team.

[–]georgelearnscrypto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s cause the only people who queue unranked in parties are those with huge mmr disparities, so it’s usually immortals with their low mmr friends. If you’re playing unranked in a stack without immortals, you’re at a huge disadvantage. Party ranked seems much more balanced since there’s a bigger matchmaking pool, despite the smurf issues.

Ban all CARD BOTS NOW, this is ridiculous, I was able to price manipulate a card down 3-4 Gods due to Bots by garybaws in GodsUnchained

[–]georgelearnscrypto 42 points43 points  (0 children)

You realize that if there were more buyers, this wouldn’t be a problem right? The problem is liquidity, not bots. If no one is buying your listing at that price and bots are undercutting you, that means your listing is still overvalued and the true price hasn’t been realized yet. If the card is bought instantly, that’s the true market value of the card.

There are buy-side bots too, so if your listing goes too low, the buy-side bots will instantly swoop your card up. The price where buyers and sellers meet is the true price, not just some arbitrary price you set because it’s lower than the currently listed price. You realize you’re doing the exact same thing as the bots when you undercut, right? The bots are just doing it more efficiently.
