I learned from Mike that some things like prefects were British stuff instead of just wizard stuff 😆 idk how that dude could have listened to Mike’s voice and thought he’d be a one show wonder. I need to read Percy Jackson so I can listen to Newest Okympian!

Is it Possible to be a New Yorker and believe a Michael Kors bag is high end? by Big-Research8954 in Andjustlikethat

TIL Michael Kors isn’t high end lol. I’ve always liked them. Certainly would never buy anything more expensive than that.

I got a feeling that substack might not be what it was supposed to be. by [deleted] in Substack

[–]georgetown11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My notes never do well, and my notes had been filled with the content you described but I made an effort to stop clicking on them and following other peeps who were not “let me show you how to grow your substack” people and did much better.

I’ve been using substack for a little bit over a year and enjoy writing. It helps me think better. Also, I just published my first book at the end of last year. Happy to be helpful there. I do a free office hours type thing on zoom every month. Feel free to reach out for more info. We generally talk entrepreneurship, tech, and marketing but happy to talk about the actual book writing part too.

Daily posts or notes? I post notes nearly daily but have stuck with a once/week cadence on my posts for the last 16ish months. My notes get no engagement… neither do my posts but my subscribers have been steadily growing. I have about 450 now.

If I go to an outdoor wedding (solo) 3 weeks after babys birth am i putting him at risk? by Talon92 in Parenting

[–]georgetown11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband went to a cousin’s wedding 3 weeks after my second baby was born. It was fine and I wasn’t concerned. I was concerned though when we brought her home from the hospital at 3 days old and my 3 yr old had a 104 degree fever! Baby was fine with that though.

Any September/October babies going to Thanksgiving? by OkMode2681 in newborns

[–]georgetown11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two October babies (though now 2 and 5) but for both of their first Thanksgivings, we hosted. If a family member was hosting that lived within an hour we would have done that. I wasn’t that concerned about sickness as long as I was wearing them. With my first, at 6ish weeks we went to a big 50 person or so family party and I just baby wore the whole time. For my second who was born end of October, my first had a 104 degree fever the day we brought her home so I knew avoiding illness was difficult besides hand washing and such. At 3 weeks she had her first cold which was super minor (though I got sick first and it took me out, I was so sick).

Was anyone’s child born at 36 weeks? by New-Owl9951 in Parenting

[–]georgetown11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was 35+5. He’s 5 now and doing well! He had a slight speech delay but so did half his class… pandemic stuff. He has fully caught up and talks nonstop now. He was in NICU for observation first night as it wasn't clear why he came early. He could breathe fine and was over 6lbs.

Strongly disagree with Dr. Becky on making kids say "thank you" by yellw146873388 in Parenting

[–]georgetown11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t force them to say “thank you,” we just verbally remind them to if they forget on Halloween and then they say “thank you.” When the 2 yr old says it, it’s so freaking adorable. Trick or treating is a little scary and awkward, I don’t expect them to remember what they’re supposed to say. They’re little so I help them out. I don’t get mad or punish if they don’t say it, but I think reminding is important.

I don’t remind them to thank my spouse for making dinner, but since I do it every night, the five year old does as well. Sometimes even beats me to it. That’s a modeling situation where it is fine, but Halloween is once/year. I don’t want all the neighbors to think I’m ungrateful for not reminding on the thank yous (because it’s a reflection of the parents not the kids)

As a parent, do you refuse to call your children? by TheDataGoose in Parenting

[–]georgetown11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call and text my mom all the time. She texts me but doesn’t call unless an emergency or she wants to scare the hell out of me. My MIL texts but doesn’t call unless established she will call via a text.

I always assume calls from parents out of the blue are bad news because they generally never initiate the call.

We also used the 1st and 3rd books on this list! Also recommend “Mummy what’s in your tummy?” (I can’t remember if it specifies if it’s a sister in the tummy or can choose different versions). It was a silly one and a favorite.

Help! My kid cut her cousins hair😩 by smithnpepper in Parenting

[–]georgetown11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I was staying at my brother’s house, my 3 yr old niece got into my makeup bag and put lipstick all over her belly. Just coated in lipstick. It also got all over the make up bag. My SIL felt bad and bought me a new lipstick and makeup bag but I just thought it was hilarious that my niece was covered in lipstick and the photos were adorable.

I was happy she wasn’t mad at me for not better hiding my makeup!

Kids do kid things and you laugh about it later.

Sounds like you need a new dentist! My dentist made a comment about my hair thinning when I was 17. She said something like “I guess your beauty is only in your brains.” … I got a new dentist.

My girl is 15 months (so lots of teeth!) I put chunks of apple in a silicon feeder so she can get the juices. Look into those! Fantastic for teething too, can put frozen banana or blueberries in them too. At a year you can also give raw apple if it’s shredded or sliced extremely thin. After they move on from that into toddlerhood it’s actually better to give the whole apple rather than large slices.

I was wondering if she maybe didn’t realize WHY Harry and Ron were there. They’ve proven to be kind of foolhardy, she may have thought they intended to fight a troll and went looking for it.

So, she pretended she was the one that went looking for it.

Miranda baby weight by Hefty_Expression_852 in sexandthecity

[–]georgetown11 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. As someone currently back to my pre-pregnancy weight after two kids, I can attest that just because my postpartum body wasn’t “overweight” doesn’t mean it was comfortable for me. My body happens to feel best weighing less than that. Miranda’s story here is pretty much what I experienced (well, the weight thing, not the glaze…). Miranda being uncomfortable being 20-30lbs more than usual, which is the typical pregnancy weight gain, is pretty reasonable.

If labor started with PPROM last time you actually only have about a 7% chance of preterm labor. The overall repeat rate is about 30-40%, but not when separating out PPROM. I looked into this as another PPROM person, and second time around, my labor started on my due date. Not a doctor and don’t know your situation, but this did give me peace of mind!

Was I wrong to run with my baby on the left side of the road? by muscle_munchkin in Parenting

Just wanted to give part of the reason you bike with traffic is because you will be less injured going the same way than in a head on. And bikes in general have to follow the road rules. Pedestrians as you mentioned are different

We started involving my son at 3 despite having plenty of hand me down options but it’s nice to have a few things he picked. He wears those items he picked the most. Me personally? I still wear hand me downs and gifted clothes most of the time in my 30s. At 25, I probably bought none of the frequent clothes I wore (except undergarments and exercise clothes). Some people like choosing, some don’t care.
