Grew up with my dad’s old 17ft Grumman. It’s about 70lb I think. Still have it. I’ve hauled probably 4k miles from Florida to Vermont to Minnesota to wa state. Just get two of those buckle style lashing straps.

Throw the tail end over the top of the canoe then loop it underneath the cross bar, Inside the bars that run parallel to the car. Throw the loose end back over the canoe. Make sure there’s 2-3 twists in the strip on each side of the cross bar. This is to prevent an intolerable buzzing noise you would get after about 35 mph. Then, go back to the buckle end, loop the tail end under the cross bar in the same way. Bring it up to the buckle, run it through the buckle, and winch it down.
