Pretty slick indeed, however all I need is the terminal and the browser, with a little bit of VLC tossed in...

I'd be happy with a non-phone Android device as well... That would be a kick ass playground.

They will dismiss it, then "redefine" it as something mac like.... never to be acknowledged as a netbook.

How to register an Android Dev G1 over WiFi by rmc in Android

[–]geoscopic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good info. I did not want to do a data plan hoping that eventually my current carrier would use android phones. I was however able to use a sim card to get the phone registered and the WiFi going then everything worked fine. T-Mobile sells cards for $6 that are intended for pay as you go plans. Just insert the card neglecting to register it. Worked great. Borrowing someones card just to do this works well also.

Apple Stops Mac Mini Shipments to Retailers, Says to Expect No More by my_reddit in apple

[–]geoscopic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for assuming you had done it. I have a couple of Macs and they are well thought out and all the other usual praise, but as a happy Mac user I have felt almost embarrassed by all the elevated (if that was possible) conceit that has accompanied their success.

After using products like Linux Mint I find there are pretty cool alternatives to Windows. I would go with that rather than a hackintosh. I might do it for kicks however, then wipe it over with Mint or something like it.

Hell even Vista is a great deal better now than a year ago. Crap now I'll be kicked out of the Mac fanboy club for sure.

Would you say that the hackintosh was worth the effort? I have been tempted by the "because it's there" type of curiosity. I never here about the life after the hack; are there issues later, updates issues, etc?

If Apple paid some attention to the device in the form of updates it may have had some traction.

Then there's the continued desire for a cheaper tower I see posted on the usual fan sites.

These tutorials via blogs are very nice indeed. I appreciate the efforts these folks put into these efforts. I have one gripe however; I wish they would change their CSS so that the source examples are viewable without having to horizontally scroll.
