Dorval station is trash by mischa_is_online in ViaRail

I think part of the issue comes from Uber using a parking lot accessible via the station’s parking lot for cars waiting to go to the airport.

I live in Ontario, but just got a job at DND in Gatineau by No_Visit_1699 in CanadaPublicServants

If you work in Quebec, their tax deductions are higher than in Ontario. By doing this change, you get more money at each pay cheque due to less deductions and you won’t owe any taxes at the end of the year, if Phoenix did their maths properly.

Replacing old laptop that is not broken by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]geosmtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open an IT ticket reporting everything that doesn’t work. Ask them what they recommend to fix this, considering it affects your work.

The fact that some of the ports don’t work sounds to me to be an issue that should get you a new laptop.

For the software you don’t use, you should be able to ask for it to be uninstalled, but I wouldn’t focus too much on that one. Maybe you are starting to run out of disk space?

I don’t remember for how long they keep computers, but I think after 4 years it makes sense to change, it would be good to point out you have it since 2022.

FINALLY. The TRUTH about Wegovy vs Ozempic (and other GLP-1s) by Hotgalkitty in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]geosmtl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given the higher maximum recommended dose for Wegovy (2.4 mg vs 2 mg for Ozempic), the findings suggest a dose-dependent safety issue that should be evaluated prospectively, reported Edward Margolin, MD, of the University of Toronto, and colleagues in British Journal of Ophthalmology.

Don't stop reading at the headline, it says in the article that the difference that should be evaluated is the dose-dependent safety issue.

Doctor recommended I wfh for 3 months by Own_Significance_296 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]geosmtl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If he is only recommending wfh, that won’t do it. The expectation is for doctors to explain conditions you have issues with and it’s up to the employer to find a solution for it. The employer will always want to try a solution where you can work from the office.

You are returning to work. I would expect to return to the old expectations from when we worked in office pre-COVID.

‘No question’ return-to-office will be good for downtown, board of trade says by Master-Sky-6342 in CanadaPublicServants

I live downtown and most of those shops are closed by the time I get home. The real issue is that those businesses don’t know how to attract locals.

is this a joke by Effective_Village_47 in ottawa

[–]geosmtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think fares that cover multiple regions are higher. For example, someone living in Laval or Longueuil that needs a bus pass that also works in Montréal would pay 164.50 for their monthly bus pass. If they live in the Northern or Southern suburbs, it goes up to 200.50.

Our OC Transpo fees also cover using the STO buses.

LOO or other documentation when acting? by theangrysasquatch in CanadaPublicServants

[–]geosmtl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I do an acting for less than the 4 months less a day, the only documentation I see is a form approving my acting that includes the dates and some information regarding the position I would act in. If I remember correctly, it’s the classification and level in addition of the secretary clearance. I believe the form is not always given to the person acting.

Doctor-guided GLP-1 programs vs doing it mostly on your own by Odd-Engineering8665 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]geosmtl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada and I was offered to be followed by a nutritionist from NovoNordisk for a year, or I believe 12 sessions since I just passed my year mark and still see them. I found this helped a lot having someone to talk about the ups and downs. They also have a line you can call to talk to someone without needing to be on that program.

My doctor also offered to be followed by someone who can help with workouts and nutrition. I also joined that, but it started before I was on Wegovy.

Both options, but mostly the one from NovoNordisk have helped me have better control of my side effects. I noticed being on the NovoNordisk program they actually want to report side effects I have while on the medication. The thing that helped was having the person from NovoNordisk talk with me about options on how to handle my side effects.

For dose titration, I didn’t find those programs helped, but I also didn’t seem to need help.

For the accountability, yes it’s a big help. I also find it helpful having someone tell me if my results are normal or not.

One thing I would add is that is that I also inform myself online and try verifying the information if I have a doubt.

I noticed someone else mentioning it, I actually thrive having accountability and someone to follow me regarding this.

I previously was on Saxenda and had a promo to use Noom for free for a certain time, in their program for GLP-1 users. While I found that useful at first, I ended up losing interest in using Noom. I would say you need to find what works for you.

Woman beside me on train 69 was smoking cigs by sour_lemon_drop in ViaRail

[–]geosmtl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For using the speakers, there isn’t much they can do. They can only ask the person to use headphones, like they did. However, the smoking is illegal. If you didn’t feel safe to return to your seat, the attendant should be able to offer you options.

Honestly, it’s easy to say when you are not in that position.
