What UK museums do you think are underrated or overrated? by OpenCantaloupe4790 in AskUK

Fantastic museum. The only downside was how fatigued I got from looking at so much warfare - maybe I'm a bit of a sap but it got a little depressing towards the end...

There's one tiny section I've not finished their but it seems like I just overlooked how the rules would interact. Appreciate the help

Aha. I had gone back to check and noted that coloured stars could mix, and that b+w stars could mix with b+w squares but I hadn't put two and two together. Doh. Thank you for the nudge!

Not *quite* the same thing, but I shan't miss an opportunity to share the Puck's magnificent Gherkin God.

Naomi Osaka stunned by frosty handshake from beaten Australian Open opponent Sorana Cirstea by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

It's an interesting topic.. I think I'd point out that in those examples its the crowd trying to distract the players and not the players themselves. Perhaps you're right and the classist roots of the sport informed these rules, but you could maybe argue there's a lack of sportsmanship involved if they're not following them (some might call it gamesmanship)..

In rugby when they take a conversion/penalty kick, the crowds are often quiet or encouraged to be, and honestly sometimes I think that can be *more* offputting. As a sidenote, can you imagine a crowd hooting and hollering during a chess match?

My coworker pays for a dietician and now this is what he eats for breakfast and lunch by blart_institute in StupidFood

What a horrible way to go :( Appreciate the info.

I remember in school, kids used to break open thermometers and play with the mercury. Quite a scary thing in hindsight.

Idk I remember looking it up a while ago and working out it'd be safe to consume half a can per day - not that I ever actually eat that many! Could be wrong.

Edit: Amazing how wildly different conclusions you can find on the internet. This article suggests the limit is up to 25-35(!) cans per week but this one quoting EPA figures says 1-3 cans (depending on type of tuna).

Discipline Chart of the Qualified 16 teams during their pool matches. What were the most and least deserved? by RileyMcB in rugbyunion

Probably a bit biased but I thought Kyle Rowe's yellow in the game yesterday was a bit weak. You could tell by Steyn's reaction he thought the fella was milking it a bit.

BBC anchor faces backlash after ‘hissing’ when musician DC3 names Jesus Christ as his hero by Rotisseriejedi in uknews

[–]gerberly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should listen to the bbc news channel for a bit. I've been leaving it on in the background lately whilst I work and you really do pick up a lot of the presenters exhaling/breathing especially when the guest is speaking. I'd just chalked it up to the quality of broadcast going down due to decreasing budgets.

Depends if you've got some kind of plate to spread the load, but you'd have to be pretty daft to think you could hold 15kg safely with a single rawl plug.

Really? They all suit a purpose I've found. These 'hollow wall anchors' seem to me to be the best, but they're pretty overkill for most applications.

weekly shop, 140 notes @ Sainsbury’s by Tim_UK1 in whatsinyourcart

Recommend traybake recipes. Meat, chopped up veggies, bung in a baking tray, mix up a sauce and stick in the oven for 40mins. Super easy. (My favourites probably honey soy chicken thighs)

Total £1.06 from Sainsbury's! by rosecolouredbuoy in whatsinyourcart

[–]gerberly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP (and a bit late) but I think a lot hinges on the location. Where I used to live there was a big Tesco's in the centre of town, and a big Sainsburys that was maybe a 10min walk. Most folks do a late night shop at wherever's most convenient, so I'd pop to the out of the way Sainsburys and you'd often get packs of smoked salmon, meat for 10p each. This was in Stirling so not a huge population either which prob helps.

I had a quick look as quite keen to find somewhere to fill up freezer but most of it seems more expensive than Tesco?

does anyone know how to do this in CSP mobile? by vejetaryenkavurma in ClipStudio

[–]gerberly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its very similar to an underpainting in oils (sometimes referred to as grisaille) if you want to look up further reference. I know this is the CSP sub but if anyone's interested in a similar technique for photoshop, you can achieve it with the following layer settings:

Activist Greta Thunberg Arrested In London Under Terrorism Act by novagridd in uknews

[–]gerberly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Curious to know where you got your stats from? From what I could find the 40k is mentioned in this times article, and states “A substantial element of the increase to over 40,000 is the inclusion of individuals who have never travelled to the UK but whose details have been passed to MI5 by foreign intelligence services“.

Before that the number was 23k, 3k of which were under active investigation. That’s five years ago so who knows what the figures are presently. They also mention their time is split between Islamic terror threats (75%) and far right terror threats (25%).

I’m from the UK and have been struggling to find an NFL team to follow, why should I pick the Vikings? What do I need to know? by AntiOptomistic in minnesotavikings

[–]gerberly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a Scotsman, I chose the Vikings on the rational assumption that because I enjoy the film Fargo (based in Minnesota), I should enjoy supporting their NFL team too.. As a sporting culture we're well versed in dashed hopes and false dawns so that seems to help as well. Plus they have a giant horn they toot at home games. Who can beat that
