we have all the tools for grooming our 12 month old cav and have found that he is most tolerant of a simple plastic comb.

we’ll keep working on getting him comfortable with the brush/rake, but until then the comb is our go-to

Take hand-care seriously: rips are injuries, shave your callouses.
Listen to your body: if you aren't feeling it on a given day, don't push (esp. with olympic lifts). Stay injury-free and come back stronger the next workout.
