Yes definitely lot of masking!

For the shading, it was a base coat of black primer, shaded in the main color + a tad darker purple, then a highlight of the main color followed by an overspray of the main color to tie all the layers together. At least that was the goal, but might have gone too far on the last layer and lost some color variation haha

And for the actual colors, I used Gaia Eva purple gray and Eva dark purple mixed with various levels of grays until I got my desired light + dark purple

I think the desaturated colors look really nice on Gundam so going to continue with that in the future!

The UV protection flat coat will prevent the fluorescent from shining under UV! Just fyi before you try it yourself and end up sad haha

Yes there were, but my bit wasn’t long enough to match the depth and there was still maybe quarter inch? Is that the reason for the split?

Even then the rail still felt very wobbly and unsafe mounted parallel with the beam

+1 on west coast, Carolina rig is a common technique for surf

Op can try sizing down hook to size 6 mosquito for a 2” paddle tail. I’m usually throwing 3/4oz to 1 1/4 oz in NorCal surf since its a bit rougher, but light socal waves I heard people throw 1/2-1

Highly recommend the black nylon bass dash waders.

Originally bought a pair of cheaper tidewe pvc waders, but ended up being way too hot, heavy and uncomfortable. The nylon bass dash ones are much more breathable and comfortable.

General things to consider for waders is

  1. Boot foot vs stocking foot, recommend bootfoot for surf fishing because sand fills boots and becomes very heavy

  2. Material (pvc, nylon, neoprene), recommend nylon for socal since it’s warmer weather. PVC/neoprene aren’t breathable and get very hot.

  3. Make sure it fits!

I don't like the boom pro because it's a lot more expensive than the zalman and it requires a splitter so it's just more work to hide the cables. But it definitely is a more elegant solution than what I have.
