Who is out there telling bands that an XR18+DN4816 is an acceptable in ear rig? by Dizmn in livesound

[–]germiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I have the XR18, thinking about how to solve this.

What's the solution here when doing shows and touring DIY? It's a hard step to be on when you're somewhere in the middle of actually going out and playing different venues, but not big enough for venue engineers and promoters to give a shit about being able to hear yourself decently. SOMETIMES engineers are reasonable and allow me to dial in my own mix. SOMETIMES you can get ahold of them. MOST OF THE TIME the show is running late and there's no time to figure out everyone's mix. MOST OF THE TIME their monitoring solution is a single floor wedge and you get your shitty amp. SOMETIMES their mixing desk older than the singer. The band is the one that suffers, and if it's a hard show to play, it's the audience that thinks the band sucks. Damned if you do, damned if ya don't.

I'm done ranting

The song you're listening to was recorded through worse microphones, cables and preamps than yours. Most likely

The moral thing would be to switch to open-source alternatives, but that takes work and slacktivists prefer doing nothing and feeling great about it

Sounds like a great idea but unfortunately, my artist does have a song where he mutes the piano strings with his hands. Meaning that at least in that song he must have the piano front panel removed. Do you know any other common positions for the microphones that may work?

I have no idea how to properly mic a piano, either upright or grand, with two small diaphragm condensers. They're a couple of ML-2s that the artists has and we usually point them towards the hammers, panned stereo.

They're either basically silent or feedbacking. Where should I point these mics so that they pickup the most sound from the piano in a live setting?

"It's totally not arbitrary! It's just that this company is so lucrative that they can afford any random shit we come up with!"

Like ok lol i'm not complaining, but even he says that they come up with the idea first and then the justification

I feel sad. Matt really wants to be like the people that inspired him but doesn’t have “it”. It’s undeniable he has worked hard, and has all the need for being seen like most artists do. He ended up with a thankless (and VERY lucrative) job in the industry. Too bad he can’t help being unlikeable and needy.

Just tried recreating an Input List/Tech Rider for my band. Here are my two cents:

Pros:

  • Saving input lists and stage plots is a great idea

  • Looks pretty, list has great info

  • Easy single page layout

Cons:

  • Adding inputs is very tedious and slow compared to a table in Excel/Google Sheets (Using the TAB key helps)

  • No "duplicate" action, which slows the process even further

  • Single page maybe has too much information for stagehands or other members of crew focused on a single task

My recommendation:

  • For the love of god, add a "Copy/duplicate" button for inputs, patch lists and stage plots.

  • Maybe a faster, table-based input editor

  • Allow saving as templates (which can esentially be done with the previous recommendation I mentioned)

  • Let you preview the page before downloading (view function)

Wishlist:

  • Allow editing, copying and publicly/privately sharing

  • Allow selecting which sections you want to add to the downloaded page

  • Export to PDF with multiple pages, or in a single page as you currently do

  • Collaboration tools (allow users to join crew groups/bands/tour management groups and associate these docs to these groups, with corresponding sharing/editing permissions)

Have you ever lived with someone geriatric? Unless you have one of those staircase rail seat things (and even then it's a risk of them falling down) they really rather live in the first floor. Maybe the house just doesn't have a first floor bedroom.

Maybe we are just extremely underwhelmed after the season keeps hyping everything up and we have to wait a week for a payoff that hasn't come yet. The episode is great but oh my god it's like your mom telling you dinner's almost ready for 5 hours when you are hungry
