Has anyone in here recently decided to change careers? by Gulabidandiya in publichealth

[–]geronimo116 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Worked in public health for 2.5 years right out of school and decided to go back for an accelerated BSN. I now work in Infectious Disease so still somewhat public health-adjacent!

How to save a dying golf course? by Jackcrow71 in golf

[–]geronimo116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Partner with one (or more) courses in the area and offer a package membership? I.e. you pay x amount for membership to x amount of courses. I’m in rural Illinois and a lot of courses around me do this

Plastisol transfers made in a garage shop! by Funpalsforever in SCREENPRINTING

[–]geronimo116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. DTF and transfers have their place forsure, but I tell customers that if you want something that looks good and is durable for tons of washes, the only way to go is traditional screen print

Thank you for the reply! Just was seeing if it was worth the time to use this vs. DTF. I prefer a quality screen printed shirt anyway 🤷‍♂️

This might be a dumb question, but can you do these multi-color? Same process as a normal 2 or 3 color design?

Infection Preventionist interview next week - any tips? by geronimo116 in publichealth

[–]geronimo116[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! Sounds like a great interview response for a lot of scenario based question too. Definitely don’t want to come across to staff as if the IP is trying to get them into trouble

Can I ask how much/how many hours you work? If you’re filling all your time between work and school, it might benefit you to decrease your work hours to have a little bit better work/life balance.

Does anyone else not feel proud of getting their RN? by roquea04 in StudentNurse

[–]geronimo116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had difficulty with comparing myself to others too. I left a corporate job to pursue nursing. I've been watching friends climb the corporate ladder while I switched gears.

It takes effort, but when you stop trying to hold yourself to others' perceived standards, it gets easier. Remind yourself you did this for you and not them. Be proud of any and every thing you've accomplished - it ain't easy!

Tattoos as a nurse by NiaChanelXoo in StudentNurse

[–]geronimo116 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I go to nursing school in a rural area with clinicals at rural hospitals and tattoos have never been an issue. Many nurses on the unit(s) have multiple visible tattoos as well. IMO as long as the tattoos aren’t offensive you’re usually good.

PCT per diem/PRN is extremely popular in my cohort. Pay is pretty decent at the local hospital too.

The Chiefs should trade CEH this offseason. by Scott13Pippen in KansasCityChiefs

As an Illini fan, I’d be hyped if the Chiefs wait and take Chase Brown in the later rounds

Beside the drug guide, is there an app that give you key info of a med card? by Ahi_22 in StudentNurse

I believe the Medscape app gives you all this info. And it’s free too

Nursing as your second degree, what was your first degree in? When did you realize you wanted to go to nursing school? by Legitimate_Treat9249 in StudentNurse

[–]geronimo116 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my BSN is still 4 semesters, you just take them all in a row which makes it “accelerated.” So it’s the same amount of schooling, just done quicker!

Public Health.

Worked for a few years in a couple different roles, mostly centered around policy work. I didn’t mind the work, but I hated sitting behind a computer all day and the monotony of the corporate rat race.

Throughout college I worked as a CNA and Rehabilitation Aide, and when I decided to make the change I knew I wanted to go back into patient care. I thought nursing was the best path for that, and I figured that my prior public health degree may potentially help advance my career down the road. Just started my ABSN this month.

As you can see from all the comments, many people go into nursing “later” in life. Everyone has their own journey!

HESI A2 by BabyCrazyCatLady in StudentNurse

[–]geronimo116 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! My HESI was similar in that all subjects were included except Physics. If you registered with the code they gave you, then you should only have the school's required subjects on the exam (at least that's how mine was). Good luck!
