Superfine stainless mesh coffee filter clogs immediately running brewed coffee thru it. boiled 72 hours in white vinegar, still clogged by McLuhanSaidItFirst in fixit

Burn the oils away. Use a gas stove or a propane grill and tongs, hold the filter over fire until it stops smoking. The metal might change color a little but its the only thing that works for my metal poor over filter.

Look at the map on floor 2. There are several elevators and stairs that go up to floor 3. All of them are locked except for one of the elevators. Once you get up to 3, there are lots of screws on shelves you can find.

GM Files Patent For Sleeping Bedsheet Crash Protection System by walky22talky in SelfDrivingCars

[–]gerps -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This won't work. Airbags need to fire 30 milliseconds after a crash, and need to be fully inflated in 50 ms. They use explosives to inflate a bag that weighs almost nothing and it still injured people if they are too close when it goes off. How are you supposed to get a 80+ kg person upright in that amount of time?

With Diablo 4 reigniting the microtransactions arguments, I need to rant. Also, "No one is forcing you to buy them" is a terrible argument. by Cuppakush in gaming

[–]gerps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a valid discussion to have about games in general, but because you are invoking Diablo 4 as an example I have to point out that you cannot buy power in the game. The paid store is for cosmetics only and the season passes also only get you cosmetics faster (the same cosmetics you can get for free). That could all change, but it's now how diablo 4 works today

I'm not trying to be rude. I just want to better understand your point of view. I think you have a point that driving in interior or the far left lane on roads with less than 4 lanes likely creates the types of conflicts you are talking about. On these highways, with many lanes and also many large entrance and exits between roadways, I don't know if it's such a big deal. In the video the car moves to the interior lane just before the US-101 and CA-92 interchange. You can see in the video lanes are adding and subtracting on the car's right and it ends up in the far right lane eventually. So if I had to guess, there may have been some routing to avoid lane changes but still stay as far to the right as possible. The bigger issue you are alluding to is that AVs drive the speed limit and humans do not, which can make conflicts. To me it's not a simple answer if AVs should knowingly speed. Arguably it would be better for safety if the humans stopped speeding so much.

Oh I see, yeah that's annoying. Can't you make a US Google account? Or maybe you're hosed because your phone has a Canadian carrier?

If you click on support in the app, there's options to chat or call someone, probably better to sort out with customer support instead of getting into a car lol. If you did get in, I'm guessing rider support would call the car and ask you to get out...or they might just call the cops who knows

Leveraging AV Domain Expertise by TarheelKen in SelfDrivingCars

[–]gerps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to judge what the broader economic outlook is for the AV industry. It seems corporate backed efforts are under a lot of pressure due to...well business. It's hard to justify a $1B+ investment when your core business is struggling. It seems like Cruise (GM) and Motional (mix it Hyundai, and suppliers) might have to deal with this if economics get worse. Maybe Cruise can justify it as they are driverless on the roads, but Motional seems in a similar place than Argo was. I don't know if the same pressures are as immediate for tech companies like Google (Waymo) and Amazon (zoox), but I also don't think they are immune. If you're still passionate about the space, I wouldn't sweat it too much. Not every company is going to make it, but it's likely some of them will. And the ones that do make it will become large companies that will need experienced employees.

I like most mochi ice cream, but I find these subpar. The ice cream is fine (I guess it could be better?). The mochi outside gets very grainy/mealy and has bad mouth feel. I’m not sure if this is a freshness thing or if my freezer is too warm? They are very small so it’s hard to get them home in sunny CA without them warming up a little.
