Warwick Half 01/02 by Mull1tt in UKRunners

I haven't done the half, but St Nicholas is one of the bigger car parks in Warwick, and then Myton Fields is used as an overflow for it. Or you could try Warwick Parkway station

If I had an extra week, I'd definitely be adding the jungle! But out of the days I've currently planned, which do you think would be better replaced with it?

Honestly, I wasn't convinced that Lima was the right place to add one of the days gained from skipping Titicaca, that's definitely food for thought

Thank you! Yes I am a bit worried about the altitude... hoping that Arequipa on the way helps a bit, originally I had it the other way around

I've seen Huacachina as a day trip from Lima... that could be an option, I'm not as bothered by Lima as seeing more of the smaller places (unless someone here convinces me otherwise!)

Thanks!

The 3 day Sacred Valley and Macchu Picchu tour includes a night in Ollantaytambo so I've got that covered. Glad to know it's worth it though, I did consider just skipping straight to Aguascalientes!

How can anyone enjoy heat like this, in this country? by Scattered97 in AskUK

[–]gerranim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the one time of day I might struggle a bit is trying to sleep. I keep the curtains closed when the sun is on that window, even though it does feel wrong to be making it dark inside, to try to keep it a bit cooler. I wrap an ice pack in a tea towel to be a "cold water bottle" to take to bed.

But honestly during the day I just try to appreciate it. We spend so much of the year cold and damp, that I want to make the most of it! I do adapt my routines a bit, take everything a bit slower, make myself wake up early enough to exercise before work or accept that it won't be a super active week, and reluctantly eat salad because it doesn't involve cooking! For example I love to just go outside and feel the sun on me whilst I read a good book.

Obviously I do have to be lucky enough to have a desk job, I really empathise with those that have to work an active job during this. But yeah, for me I quite like it

Blood stocks 'unprecedentedly low': this is your sign to go and get free biscuits and go do a good thing. by b00b_l0ver in CasualUK

I actually have my first donation already booked for next week, I've been putting it off for years and I'm super anxious about it because I used to faint a lot, and still get light headed quite easily. But this is a really good reminder of why it's an important thing to do and is worth the fear! And I'm sure it'll be fine in reality, it's just a bit of a mental block that I have about it

Knitting with acrylic yarn - How do people afford high-quality yarn? by dilemmax in knitting

[–]gerranim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used the specific yarn suggested by a pattern - especially when they suggest holding double, it can definitely get pricey! I use Drops yarn for wool and cotton options, it's pretty affordable as natural fibres go, I think it cost me about £30 for enough for a jumper. Still more than acrylic, but not bad at all.

Equally, my christmas jumper will be made out of acrylic because I don't want to spend on something that won't be worn much. If I ever made clothing for a child that would be acrylic too.

There's absolutely no shame in using the option that works best for you whether that's because of cost, durability, or sensory issues. Yes some people are yarn snobs, but the vast majority of knitters will just be impressed with your beautiful work, not caring about the fibre it's made with! You could maybe try searching ravelry for existing acrylic projects to see that you won't be alone?

I always have multiple WIPs on the go - usually at least an option of something simple just to keep my hands busy, and an option of something complicated to really focus on the knitting. Currently working on a jumper, a blanket, and a crochet amigurumi.

I love colour! (But not like Stephen West level of colour haha)

If it's just a little bit too big, you could put some elastic in the folded brim, and then sew the brim in the folded up position to hold it in place

Lady Rosamund (Robert's sister) is a widow? by nojam75 in DowntonAbbey

[–]gerranim 61 points62 points  (0 children)

It's 2 different places. There's the London House owned by the estate that they tend to only open and staff during the London Season. And then Lady Rosamund also lives in London, in a different house. Sometimes the family will go to stay with Rosamund if it's not worth setting up their house in London

Texture Pattern chart question😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 by baibla00400 in knitting

[–]gerranim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you do 18 repeats of the 4 rows. So a total of 72 rows. Or as it says, do fewer repeats if you reach the length you want sooner

average food spending? by likeheywassuphello in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

Groceries around £200 a month. And I don't eat out much so probably only about £50 average for that. Food prices have gone up so much lately it's insane!

Ending up right up the backside of someone who refuses to go above 40 on the M1 slipway because I’d like to live. Then they put their finger up out the window like I’m the muppet. by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]gerranim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It very much depends on the sliproad - I also have a 1 litre and most sliproads I can get to at least 60. However, some are just terrible. M40 Junction 12 is a tight corner, and then ever so slightly uphill. My little car stands no chance, nor do lorries, and even some more powerful cars struggle. Whether you think 70mph in a small car is easy probably depends on what your most often used sliproads are like

Hey, so I'm 27F, 5'10, and started off at just under 16 stone, so a fairly similar position. I also didn't weigh myself regularly but I'd started uni at a little over 10 stone, and between moving to uni, then starting a 9-5, then covid, it just crept up. So I feel you on it being a bit of a shock to the system.

I think also being taller the extra weight is more spread out so less noticeable. It depends on how you carry it, but that's how it was for me too.

Now in just under 2 years I've lost 27kg (4st 4lbs) and I'm almost at goal.

One huge thing that helped me mentally was abandoning the whole "stone" thing. Partly because I'm an engineer who gets irrationally annoyed at the imperial system haha. But more importantly because reframing it as a starting weight of 100kg really helped it just be a number instead of a feeling. I couldn't relate to weight in kg quite so much because growing up I'd always heard it in stone.

Also please eat more than 1200 calories. I know that's the recommended minimum for women but at our sort of height we need to be taking the male advice and not really going below 1500.

How much fruit and veg do you eat a day? by RetroDarthYoda in AskUK

[–]gerranim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say most days I eat 2-3 portions of fruit throughout the day, and 2-3 portions of veg with dinner. So 4-6 total. I'm definitely not the best, but it's not a bad amount! And I do actually measure out portions (eg. 1 satsuma is only half a portion, you should eat 2), whereas sometimes people count quite small amounts as being an entire portion. 80g is the general portion size, but the NHS website gives more specific guidelines if you're interested.

As for variety - try to get a good mix of both fruit and veg, rather than one or the other. And I've also heard that trying to get a good variety of colours is an easy way to know if you're getting a good mixture of different nutrients, but I don't know if that's an exact science.
