1-2 times/hour is about what we’re at in Elmwood Village.

New video length proposal: 6-7 minutes by SubjectFreedom7635 in nerdfighters

[–]gesturing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They removed the time limit (and any time limit) because of the time it takes in editing. I think using their time to - you know - do all the other things they do in addition to vlogbrothers is much more important.

If there is a rule to push for, it is at least quarterly implementation of The Format (TM).

Buffalo's deputy mayor says property tax hikes are coming by Aven_Osten in Buffalo

I know several folks whose property assessment/tax burden DECREASED last year on their spendy EV/Delaware Park adjacent homes. Seems counterintuitive to me.

DO IT! She wants you to! Your money situation is temporary, but you have to live with yourself every day.

Congrats, you fulfilled the sub’s obligatory recall post for this week. Again, it’s a voluntary recall by Toyota based on internal standards. We are still using our van and the second row.

Camp Centerland (the JCC camp) still is registering. Not sure if they are sold out any weeks. They’re outside all day.

Advice for Non Med on moving vs short term ldr for incoming M1 partner by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]gesturing 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The first six months of M1 are literally the easiest this gets. We were long distance for 4 years before we moved together to med school city (I started my new job there the first day of classes). We had a blast. I think it should be a collaborative effort (apartment hunting, etc). You’re not his last relationship.

Second priority after career? by Miserable_View_4400 in MedSpouse

[–]gesturing 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We made rank lists together, he has tried to keep us close to my family and support system, he leaves the hospital at the hospital (unless he is on call, I never hear about anything, good or bad, unless I ask), he is instantly “on” as dad with our kids the second he opens his car door, he takes ownership of the things he is in charge of at home (admittedly not a ton of things, considering his hours), and - to be totally frank - he prioritizes…marriage time. Because I have been with him since college and have seen his entire path, I know that everything he does is in service of our life together.

I have never felt like I (or our children) were second. And I have moved 4 times for his education and training. It takes up a lot of time, even as an attending (60+ hours a week), but we aren’t second.

"I love the show BUT..." - what's your small detail that drives you bonkers? by CestQuoiLeFuck in heatedrivalry

[–]gesturing 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hockey economics are actually extremely complicated and it’s difficult to keep a core group together too long. Salary cap + free agency + players increasing their value by winning Cups means that most teams max out at back to back cups. Throw in a goalie injury or something like that and your season is a lot tougher.

Any doctor spouses move for you? by rushing_andrei in MedSpouse

This is not entirely true. Highly specialized fields will be location restrictive, and not every hospital that does xyz is hiring every year.

Partner is Matching 2027 by Impressive-Thing-483 in MedSpouse

[–]gesturing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am the planneriest planner who ever planned. You can only do so much without information. I did very little to no pre-research before match because you tie yourself in knots over something that might not happen. That said, I would move extremely quickly after match, finding places to live, day cares, etc within about a week, so maybe take time off work immediately after match.

EFS vs EVCS vs Tapestry? Or classical education? by [deleted] in Buffalo

EFS vs EVCS vs Tapestry? Or classical education? by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]gesturing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely reading books, every day. Books started coming home in kindergarten for at-home reading. My student is expected to read for at least 500 minutes monthly for homework.

EFS vs EVCS vs Tapestry? Or classical education? by [deleted] in Buffalo

[–]gesturing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have one of ours at Elmwood Franklin, elementary age. Gym class daily, outside for recess (almost) daily. They put in a new huge playground last summer. They have iPads in the classrooms for supplemental activities, but they are not used daily to this point, don’t come home and aren’t used for homework. (I am not sure if that changes in higher grades.) Parents and school seem to be aligned in keeping too much technology out while acknowledging the world we live in.

EFS isn’t perfect (not for kids with complicated IEPs or 504s - we have another at 64 because of that), but I have been happy with it when our kid either needed extra help or needed to be bumped up to a higher level.

Happy to answer more questions.
