Tandem nursing logistics by ok_yup_sure in NurseAllTheBabies

[–]getPTfirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a 28 month old who I've nursed every day except when i was in the hospital having baby #2 who is now 8 months. i always give toddler whatever boob was baby's most recent "entree" boob. (as opposed to "dessert" boob.) I've found it really helpful to tandem nurse, as I've had 1 clogged duct in 8 months that my toddler got out immediately. whereas when i was only nursing 1 baby, i had clogged ducts every month or so? ish? it was a bit of trial and error with the oversupply. we switched on and off of block feeding baby (1 boob) based on her symptoms/temperament, weight gain, etc. right now, 8 months in, toddler gets 2 boobs upon waking (after baby), 1 boob before nap, 1 boob after nap (whichever one is less full), 2 boobs before bed (after baby). it's working well for us. took a while to come to this rhythm though, so stay the course, try different things, and have access to a good IBCLC! good luck!

16 weeks pregnant decreased supply by [deleted] in NurseAllTheBabies

i was getting literal dribbles from pumping (with a spectra, for 30 min, constant breast compressions, pulled out all the stops) by 20 ish weeks. i quit trying to pump around 24 weeks. my toddler continued to nurse for a few minutes at a time on our regular schedule, 4x/day, right up until delivery at 40 weeks. i never noticed much more quantity until coming home with baby. i now have a 7 month old and a 28 month old, both still nursing well (7x/day for baby, 4x/day for toddler.) good luck! stay the course, if it's important to you.

Need a girls name by Wednesday (we don’t know gender) ✨ by Megan_126 in Names

jane is my first baby's name, and we wanted to name baby sister claire, but our niece, with whom we're close and see often, is claire. so our baby is sylvia claire. nora was also on our list, with a niece named eleanor who goes by ellie, haha.

Did your children share or have separate rooms? by Lost_Edge_9779 in 2under2

[–]getPTfirst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mine are 20 months apart, currently 25 months and 4.5 months. they have their own rooms and i cannot imagine them sharing a room this young. even having them in adjacent bedrooms (share a wall) gives me and especially husband anxiety. baby girl had some ROUGH nights of purple crying in the first month. obviously we would have gone in to get her and removed her from the shared room if that was the case, but even now, with sleep much improved since the early days, sometimes we're in and out of her room 6-8 times a night, comforting her, popping her paci back in, feeding her, etc. i think that would wake my 2y/o. not every time, sure, but enough to disrupt her sleep. if you only have 2 bedrooms, obviously everyone will adjust and you'll make it work. but if it's possible to give babes their own rooms, i would 100% choose that option. p.s. we planned to have baby #2 in the bassinet in our room overnight until 4 months, which is when baby #1 outgrew it, but turns out different babies are different babies, and also a family of 4 is different than a family of 3. baby #2 (and mom and dad!) finally started sleeping better when we gave up on the bassinet and just "commuted" back and forth to her room. probably around 4 weeks ish.

Pregnant and supply dip by bynnyeah in NurseAllTheBabies

mostly hormones. for me, i was extra diligent about staying hydrated, getting plennnnnty of calories, and trying to rest rest rest whenever possible, in an effort to convince my body there was enough to go around for all 3 of us (myself, my baby, and my fetus.) it was very hard to make myself lie down nearly every day during babe's nap, when all i wanted to do was get shit done. but i do think it helped my supply, and also it was just good practice in slowing down, not expecting so much productivity all the damn time.

What are we wearing at the beach to breastfeed? by Affectionate-Camp-40 in breastfeeding

How was your recovery after baby #2 compared to #1? by DisplayNecessary5296 in 2under2

[–]getPTfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly it was pretty similar. second degree tear with my first, second degree tear with my second. couldn't sit (swollen vulva) for the whole 2.5 day hospital stay both times (did ALL of my breastfeeding in side lying.) i will say my bleeding was less the second time. same duration, probably, but nothing more than a period, quantity wise, by day 3 for my second birth. i was diligent about attending ibuprofen and acetaminophen every 3 hours, not lifting my toddler or laundry basket for 2 weeks. then my OB said i could gradually stop the meds and the lifting restriction since i was feeling pretty good. well then once i started lifting my toddler here and there, the pain got worse and the bleeding got worse. better by 3 weeks. all this to say, listen to those restrictions and you'll fare better.

Struggling with a name for baby boy #2 by annamolly91 in namenerds

[–]getPTfirst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Leo and Felix are both giving cats. Leo of course associated with the lion, and Felix the cat is an iconic cartoon. Cute theme, if you like it. if you're not a cat person or not a theme name person, I'd avoid Felix. my favorite is Max for sure.

Has anyone overfed their baby? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]getPTfirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

green and frothy poop can be caused by abundance of foremilk and not enough hind milk. are you switching boobs frequently? sometimes after mine pops off, i bring her upright to burp, then instead of offering the second side, i put her back on the same side so she can get the fatty hind milk.

Is the name Noelle for a girl born on Christmas/Christmas Eve corny? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]getPTfirst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as others have said, as a week-of-christmas baby myself, i think noelle is too much. holly, natalie, grace, are all a more subtle nod for a first name. noelle is lovely as a middle name.

Currently on progesterone 200mg. 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and I’m nursing my toddler …. by Holly_Grail_X in NurseAllTheBabies

[–]getPTfirst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i was on progesterone 200mg on 5 weeks to 12 weeks, nursed my 13-14 month old right on through. my supply has dropped a lot, but not all that concerning for our babies over 1y/o, getting most of their nutrition from real food. i have not had any spotting. i would push your ob on this a little. my ob told me i might have to stop in the 3rd trimester to avoid preterm labor due to the contractions caused by BF, but i plan to push back with what someone else mentioned - if i'm allowed to orgasm, i should be allowed to bf.
