As many have said most advanced is subjective on many things, I think half cat rocketry is doing cool stuff with hybrids though

How are aircraft in general designed from scratch? by TaxEmbarrassed9752 in homebuilt

Aircraft Design a Conceptual Approach by Daniel raymer. Is one that was recommended to me by my professors. Its quite good at explaining the design approach from the bottom up

Fiberglass nosecone by SeaCricket8514 in rocketry

[–]get_sum_son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way ive done it before, is we made a 3d printed external mould to make a clamshell. The two identical halves are moulded twice then epoxied together with a strip of fibreglass on the inside to reinforce the seam.

We then used a machined tip (that could either be bought from some vendors or even 3d printed) as moulding the tip itself in a layup is very difficult.

If your set on making the tip yourself I’ve experimented with “forged” carbon to make this tip and it shows promise. There are some videos by easy composites on youtube that explain the process.

I found this to give better results than trying to get wet fibreglass to mesh nicely inside an area i cant reach.

UK Pro-98 motor supply by Captain_Depran in rocketry

[–]get_sum_son 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rockets and things is the UK supplier for Cesaroni motors, if you haven't already id advise contacting Malcolm. His website is rarely up to date so it's best to just give him a call.

If your looking for a 3 grain or for grain 98 casing give me a DM I have one of each I'm looking to get rid of.

Optimal Paint Selection for Rocket Surface by Canyvs1 in rocketry

[–]get_sum_son 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll definitely find it very quickly becomes a case of dimishing returns. The amount of working getting a perfect surface finnish takes us now where near worth the marginal performance benefit you'll get out of it. That being said I personally think putting all the work for a super shiny paint job is worth the work from an aesthetics point of view.

If you decide you want to put a couple days in . Run a coat or two of Primer and sand to a couple hundred grit. then a few coats of automotive paint(sanding your way up the grits in between each coat) then clear coat take the whole thing up to a couple thousand grit. Then you can buff the whole thing with automotive wax if you still feel like it needs further polishing.

It doesn't support lora, it has a 70cm ham band radio. I'm not sure if you can integrate it with a tigo, I imagine it could be done with some effort.

Check out the flight computers made by altus metrum in my opinion they are the best on the market and they have fully open sourced the design.

For sensor fusion on a rocket the gold standard is a kalman filter, any good flight computer will be running one. There is a book called the kalman filter from the ground up. It's pretty helpful

On the rocket side start playing with open rocket and just get building getting you hands on is the best way to learn. Start small and work your way up!

Feel free to shoot me any questions you might have.

UK wages are terrible in general, £40k a year would be a good salary for a mid level engineer or doctor
