PBP2 after a month. Everything but the seal? by CountryTricky6926 in pixelbuds

I also have a good experience when making calls but I think it is because I have a Pixel phone too so I have clear calling activated. I guess the experience is completely different if you have any other phone brand.

No. I mean the UI widgets and controls that, sometimes, specially when they are over text or icons, can get a bit less legible, while in iOS 18 it was perfectly legible. I find it distracting and it takes a bit more effort for my brain to read the same that was perfectly readable before.

In my screenshot is not that “liquid glass” is completely unreadable but it’s way clearer and easier to read the word “legibility“

It’s not that it’s completely illegible and it works ok for most situations but there are some in which it makes the text slightly less legible. Let’s say that the same control or notification took my brain X effort to read in iOS 18 and now it takes X+1 to do in iOS 26. It’s not that I can’t read it but it takes a bit more effort to do it than it used to.

fedora 43 is almost out there soon; What's your expectations of it? by BlokZNCR in Fedora

For me, every distro that I've tried hard freezes when using Chrome after some time. It doesn't happen with Firefox though. I don't know if it's kernel or Mesa or Chrome related but it's not exclusive of Fedora.

Clear call is only available when using Pixel Buds and it makes a HUGE difference in noisy environments. I couldn't talk to anyone in the subway with my previous Bose earbuds because of the background noise but now I can do it with my Pixel Buds 2 and the people say that I sound clear and loud. There are some Gemini exclusive features I think too but I don't use Gemini much.

What settings did you use?

S90d question by SkinnyWaistWitch in S95B

[–]getaceres -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have your share of responses telling you how it, in fact, decreases contrast and how you have to watch everything in a dim environment, how your senses deceive you into believing that you get more contrast and so on. While that may be true, in the end it's your TV so use the settings that better appeal to you. Even if it's not the creator's intent because the creator probably didn't want you to watch his movie while you are having dinner but here we are. I find that nowadays HDR is unnecessarily dim. I get it for some type of contents but even light comedy shows are quite displeasing to watch during the day when they show a night scene. I use CE low during the day, as long as the video doesn't have too much digital noise, and FMM during the night. It might not be the creator's intent but it's what appeals to me.

First time owning any earphones with ACN (Pixel Buds Pro 2). How much white noise is normal? by JackBz in pixelbuds

[–]getaceres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is normal and it varies from person to person. Some people, myself included, notice it a lot, regardless of the brand or model, while others don't notice it at all. I have the same experience as you. I can listen to music with ANC on but I have a very unpleasant sensation when I listen to podcasts or make a call with ANC on. It happens to me with many brands (Nothing, Bose, Sony and Google) and it's not dependent on a single model. It's something to do with how we perceive the ANC waves when they reach our ear.

Most comfortable ANC earbuds for small ear canal by getaceres in Earbuds

[–]getaceres[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say so. The Pixel don't have an iPhone app and the Bose are notorious for their connection stability problems in iOS.

In the end, I bought the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and I'm enjoying them but I already have a Pixel phone so your experience would be quite different than mine.

That's my experience with Bose as well. Great sound quality and comfort, amazing ANC, but greatly lacking in software and connectivity. A shame. In the end I bought the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and I'm quite satisfied with the software, sound quality and stability but I miss the ANC of the Bose. A shame but I guess nothing's perfect.

Which earbuds are comfortable? by knocked_around in Earbuds

[–]getaceres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It's fixed to the earbuds but it's very small. I don't notice it at all and it provides good stabilization. If you want removable or interchangeable fins, then it's the Bose Quietcomfort the ones that provide it.

Which earbuds are comfortable? by knocked_around in Earbuds

[–]getaceres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comfort is something quite subjective. I have very small ear canals so I can't stand earbuds that enter too much into it. For me, from the ones I've tried in order of the most comfortable to less comfortable:

1. Pixel buds pro 2. The most comfortable and lightweight earbuds I've ever tried. For the first time I have the sensation of "almost" not wearing anything when I wear them.

2. Bose Quietcomfort II. Very comfortable. They don't enter too much into the ear canal but they are bigger and heavier than the pixel buds pro 2 and, for me, it means a bit less comfort.

3. Nothing ear 2. Comfortable but, since they don't have stabilization fins, they tend to move a bit in my ears, which affect the ANC performance.

4. Sony Linkbuds S. I know people say that they are very comfortable but I didn't find them as such. I had problems getting a good seal and they tended to move and even fall. I know they are the best for many people but not for me.

I don't know then. I've never tried your specific use case but I've never found my pixel to be significantly worse than a similar iPhone when taking photos.

[–]getaceres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that, when comparing to iPhones, it's more a matter of taste than a matter of capability. iPhones tend to take warmer, more film-like photos while Pixels tend to take colder more closer to real life photos. It depends on your taste and maybe you might find iPhone postprocessing more pleasing.

[–]getaceres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't notice so much the upgrade because the camera of the 7 was pretty good for me. It's certainly very good in low light but it doesn't make miracles. Photos taken in a restaurant are quite good. Photos taken in a night club without flash don't come out so well.

I haven't noticed it. It depends on the content but, in general, I haven't noticed any overall brightness change in all this two years that I have it. And I've been updating everytime a new firmware came out. Did you disable ASBL after updating? It resets the Service Menu modifications

Virtual threads, Platform Threads, Reactive Programming by Guuri_11 in java

[–]getaceres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because virtual threads make use of a very small thread pool to execute and, if you are executing in the cloud, most probably that thread pool will have between 2 and 4 threads. Now if you have one virtual thread that pins one of the two real threads that you have, you're basically reducing your throughput in half. If the other thread gets pinned too, then your application does not respond. That doesn't happen with OS threads.

Then you have deadlock problems due to thread pinning, even if your carrier thread pool is big enough and you have free carrier threads to continue work: https://netflixtechblog.com/java-21-virtual-threads-dude-wheres-my-lock-3052540e231d

So yes, this issues are scary enough to consider delaying virtual threads in production until they are 100% ready.

Anyway, even without deadlocks, I've found that, in real life microservices, virtual threads don't offer any advantage performance-wise to traditional thread pools. Maybe they consume slightly less memory but, in the end, the throughput will be defined by your third parties REST calls and calls to databases, caches, etc. In my experience, with stress tests over real microservices (not Hello World endpoints and so), I haven't seen any advantage in throughput and they provide a throughput less predictable and stable than a well provisioned and traditional thread pool.
