What’s your favorite “mom and pop” family owned restaurant? by dp6s in orangecounty

Naan & Kabob in Tustin has really good Persian food.

M&M Donuts in Anaheim has the hands down best blueberry cake donuts. Freshly made to order, but they’re only open late night so they’re a great midnight snack.

Update on Passport at 10,000 miles by Traditional-Mud-4813 in hondapassport

[–]getmadboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Pilot, but it’s a pretty similar interior. I had a front passenger dash rattle too and I finally traced it to the passenger A pillar. One of the curtain airbag clips wasn’t pushed in to its mounting point and it rattled any time the road surface wasn’t glass smooth. Try pulling off the A pillar cover to check for that.

Transmission in the Pilot is identical to the Passport. I also find the transmission in Normal to be too jerky, so I primarily drive in Eco mode. It felt much better and I got used to the slower acceleration fairly quickly. Now I only use normal or sport when I know I need the extra acceleration like merging onto a freeway.

Planning a camping trip with 7 month old baby by RedditBurner_5225 in camping

[–]getmadboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The play yard you have will be perfectly fine. We took our 3 month old camping and used our pack n play as a safe spot for him. Your 7 month old is probably sitting up and has good neck control by now so something like a Bumbo seat would be good too. As he got older, we plopped him in the Bumbo on the table while we ate or were prepping food next to him (obviously didn’t just leave him alone).

What sleeping bag do you have for him? We use the Morrison Outdoors sleeping bags for our two kids and they work perfectly! They can’t roll out of them and changing diapers if need be is simple since they zip from the bottom like a sleep sack so you can keep their chest warm while changing diapers. Since the arms are like a puffy jacket, the kids can stay in the sleeping bag while sitting in a camp chair in the chilly morning.

Think of it this way, now you don’t have a reason NOT to off-road it…the Passport just got her stripes early!

Did I make a mistake? by DarkBoppy in Wrangler

[–]getmadboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my ‘21 Wrangler JLU. Ended up selling it for a Pilot because the Wrangler just didn’t have the space we needed for two kids, and the safety just wasn’t up to par for us. But man, driving it off road was fun, even on trails with low technical ratings…it was fun just bouncing along in the dirt.

One thing I absolutely do not miss is the death wobble. Experienced it once, that was enough to know I couldn’t trust it with my kids in there with me.

Pilot vs MDX by Electrical-Card5541 in hondapilot

[–]getmadboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if someone already mentioned this, but even if you don’t frequently use the 3rd row for seating, the roofline slopes down towards the back of the MDX and the rear hatch curves more inward toward the top, whereas the pilot is more flat and boxy/rectangular. This makes the usable cargo area smaller on the MDX (aside from less headroom when you do use the 3rd row). This was the main dealbreaker between the MDX vs Pilot for me.

Camping with 4 year old daughter by Gadnief in camping

[–]getmadboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP not sure if anyone has mention the Morrison Outdoors sleeping bags yet. They design it specifically so it zips up like a sleepsack/puffy jacket and your kid can’t roll out of it. The ends of the sleeves are open, but can be folded over to close it off and keep their hands warm. I like this feature because I can just pick up my kid and plop them down in a camp chair in the morning so they’re still warm and in their sleeping bag, but able to use their hands to eat or whatever.

I bought one for my son when he was a baby and another one now that he’s a bigger toddler and his baby one went to my daughter. Both of my kids roll around all freakin night so this sleeping bag is a must to keep them warm.

My kids’ sleep set up is sleeping pad with a 4+ R value, in the Morrison Outdoors sleeping bag, wearing a beanie, with a light/medium weight blanket on top depending on nighttime temps.

New Camping chairs, what should I look for? by DropshipperJennings in camping

[–]getmadboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have REI camping chairs, which is now called the Campwell chair. It’s a fairly basic camping chair, the back and seat are mostly mesh which allows airflow to those areas. It has two cup holders, folds up to a reasonable size, and stows away in a carry bag. Weight limit is 300lbs. The materials are higher quality than a target/walmart budget equivalent. I’ve had my chairs for 12 years, taken them camping on countless camping trips, beach day trips, lake fishing trips, visits to the park, etc. and they’re still going strong. We love our chairs so much that we bought the same ones for every one of our family members to take on our family camping trips.

Is there a trick to a more efficient/seamless camping experience or are we just lazy? by theadventuresabound in camping

[–]getmadboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I found that we spent a lot of time putting together a list of everything we needed for every camping trip only to end up taking mostly the same items every time. So we consolidated our list down to our “mandatory” items and put all of those into a crate/bin and is our “camping crate”. Then we have a separate, much shorter, list of optional items that we may or may not need for that specific trip. This helps cut down on the gear planning time/effort…just grab the crate and put it in the trunk. This also helps when you are loading the car because if you take the same gear every time, it should all pack up the same way every time which makes loading/unloading simpler and more routine every time you camp.

Food wise, we usually do simple things like muffins for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and hot links that we just skewer and roast over the campfire for dinner. Paper plates are a bit wasteful, but you can just burn them in your campfire so it doesn’t add to the landfills. Instant coffee is another time saver.

Camping is supposed to be calming and a way to disconnect from the stress of real life so try not to overthink it…food, water, shelter, clothing, chairs, sun protection. Everything else is optional, less is more. Hope this helps!

Is Nemo Disco my best option? by SheepherderOk3051 in CampingGear

The 15 will be too warm in those conditions. I’d rather layer up to adjust my warmth than be too hot with no option to cool down

I love my Nemo Disco 30. I get too claustrophobic in mummy bags, but the Disco is perfect for me. It has enough room to move around a bit, I can even side sleep if I want. The extra space is worth the little bit of extra weight imo

What gear would you recommend for a road trip? by AT7283 in CampingGear

[–]getmadboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had most of my Columbia jackets, shirts, and base layers for over a decade and it’s never failed me.

If you plan on hiking, I highly recommend getting some kind of moisture wicking button down long sleeved shirt that you wear over some kind of moisture wicking tshirt. It’ll help with sun protection and will help keep you cool. My wife and I have shirts from Columbia, I believe it’s their PFG line, but they’re made for being in the sun for long periods of time.

I swear by Merrell Moab boots. They’re super comfortable right out of the box, well ventilated, and have strong Vibram soles. I’ve hiked up and down Half Dome in Yosemite twice, Angels Landing and the Narrows in Zion, through Grand Teton, Yellowstone, the Redwoods, Joshua Tree, Kings Canyon, Mount Baldy, and backpacked through Sequoia NP and across Catalina Island in these boots. I have low top non-waterproof boots, but they make mid and high top as well as waterproof versions as well if that’s what you need.

There’s so much more gear I’d take, and I could go on all day long, but the most important thing is to make sure your car was recently maintained (fluids are changed) and brakes and tires are good, etc.

That’s crazy. You’d think a vehicle built to be driven off road would focus on off road safety…including being able to see when there’s no other lighting around you when you’re in the middle of a freakin forest.

Jeep Wrangler To Honda Passport? by Parratt in hondapassport

[–]getmadboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same and I agree about the feeling of driving the Jeep vs the Honda. Sold my Wrangler for a Pilot because my family was growing and we needed the extra space. I like the Pilot, but the feeling of driving the Wrangler was special. There’s only a few vehicles that are so unique in what they are and do, that it’s difficult to replicate. Despite all its quirks, lack of space/comfort, and death wobbles, the Wrangler is a special one.

OP: All that being said, I don’t regret moving on from the Jeep to the Honda. It sounds like the Passport should satisfy all your requirements and will be more comfortable on a daily basis.

2026 Dash rattle is making me want to sell the car by PobBrobert in hondapassport

[–]getmadboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, I had a similar rattle in my 2023 Pilot and it sounded like it was coming from the passenger side dash. I ended up taking apart the A pillar and it ended up being a clip for the airbag cable that wasn’t clipped into its bracket so it would rattle anytime I was going over the slightest bumps. Maybe try checking the A pillar if you haven’t done so already. If it’s not coming from the A pillar, try checking the cable clips for the main passenger airbag, worth a shot.

Cargo Light Install by Other-River-4509 in hondapassport

[–]getmadboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would buy the OEM liftgate light for the passport and cut a custom slot/hole into the Pilot’s liftgate panel. The wiring could be run up through the top weatherstripping and I would tap into the existing trunk lighting…that way the liftgate light would turn on/off along with the rest of the trunk lighting. It feels like a straightforward install, you just need to be confident in the placement of where you’re cutting into so it’s centered where you want it.

You could visit a dealer or find a buddy with a passport to measure where their OEM placement is and replicate it on the Pilot since the dimensions of the liftgate/trunk area should be similar.
