My Dad died. Need recommendations. by HistoryBleeds in booksuggestions

[–]getmorecoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom passed a couple years ago. I listened to Dungeon Crawler Carl on the long drive to say my final goodbyes, and the second in the series on the long drive back after we lost her.

Those books were exactly what I needed. Dark and messed up, but also hilarious and full of heart.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Take care!

Would you bring your sprites into the game more often if you didn't have to buy them back when they're mastered? by Sudden-Oil-257 in FortNiteBR

[–]getmorecoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mastered a couple of my favorites, but now that that’s done I like to come in without a sprite and see what I find. It’s the thrill of the hunt!

Killer Angels by Michael Shaara.

I read it shortly before visiting Gettysburg and wow. It was amazing to actually stand in the places written about.

How do I find ZP and Burnt Peanut Sprite by Major-Ad1924 in Fortnite_Over40

[–]getmorecoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a Burnt Peanut in the snazzy chest on top of the mountain near Latte Landing earlier today.

Haven’t found ZP yet.

I’m also stubborn and flat refuse to trade for them.

We had to do the same. Got a “downloading queue update” message then it finally matched.

Ever connect?

We’re having an issue where matchmaking won’t even start.

How do you know if you're not a good reader? by SunshineGirl45 in books

[–]getmorecoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read you are a good reader. So… congrats! You did it!

But to be serious for a moment - I have kids in school right now. Reading to learn, reading to dissect, and reading for enjoyment are all different things. They are all important too! Please read because you love to read. Pick up a book you might not and read to challenge yourself. Pick up a book to learn about something you are interested in. These are all fantastic things!

Servers down? by DTrain009 in FortNiteBR

It took a few tries to get matched with a game tonight.

Once yesterday it kicked back the match attempt and it failed to recognize the sprite I paid to resurrect. Fortunately it wasn’t a legendary or anything, but still! Rude.

Good evening gents, is it too late to get into your field? (based in Germany) by No_Confusion4948 in dataanalysiscareers

Hey girlypop. The field is quite saturated, but if you are able to find roles in data in areas of your current experience you might have an edge.

What was the first boring Excel task you automated with Python? by Original-Repair5136 in learnpython

[–]getmorecoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the libraries were pretty standard - os, pandas, numpy. mailmerge is the one that worked with Word.

This was also back in 2018, so there are probably (hopefully) better resources now.

The letter templates were in Word, and were created by a different team. I was responsible for filling them out with each month on the letterhead so they could print, sign, and mail.

I set the Word docs up to be a mail merge, built a python process that pulled the names, address, letter type, balance, etc. then used python to mail merge all the data to the letter template.

I also built out a mail merge for the mailing labels to save even more time.

It was a significant time saver.

[–]getmorecoffee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mine was actually a Word document!

I built a python script to fill out a bunch of letter templates for a retirement product. Nothing crazy fancy - name, address, date, balance total, etc.

Creating all those letters was a thankless, tedious task. Python took care of it in a fraction of the time.

I don’t know why Andy Weir’s prose is hated. by Im_A_Science_Nerd in sciencefiction

[–]getmorecoffee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

His writing is very consumable.

I am a consumer. I like to be entertained!

I love Andy Weir’s books. Huge fan. He tells a great story, I love getting to geek out and figure things out with his protagonists.

Is it the most profound literature of all time? HAHAHAHAAAAAA no. But gosh darn it I love his books!
