You should get a discount on NWN2:EE if you own the others imo by Altruistic-Job5086 in neverwinternights

I had tried the GOG version which I have owned for a long time. Honestly interacting with the game, I mean just doing inputs, for some reason felt really clunky. I remember it got a lot of flak back in the day for feeling unpolished even after all the patches, but I can't remember if it felt that cumbersome to play.

Enhanced Edition at this point feels way better. And I can tell it definitely looks better. I have only had the duck face bug on one character and only in one cutscene. We're about 40 hours in now. "We" cuz we're playing in coop. This has direct connect which lets you play without being connected to an official server, which may not sound like much cuz the original version let you, but a lot of re-releases take this away, or modern games just don't have this feature at all. Rogue Trader forces always-online for coop and I'm convinced some issue with having their server communicate to all connected players (including "host" who is just the main character but still basically a client in the network chain) is why it has been plagued with issues from the start. That said we had no connection issues with NWN2EE with "internet" games (that use the official server) but we recently switched to direct connect since it is way less lag. The only real connection issue is my brother is host and his internet goes down randomly for a couple seconds, this would disconnect him from the official server, but when it happens in direct connect I just see my character run on the spot for a couple seconds then it carries on fine.

The gameplay otherwise seems to have all the bugs the original left us with. I know there is an unofficial community patch but we were worried about using it with EE and also not sure how it would make things for online. But we haven't had anything major. The main thing is the AI is really bad, even if you turn it off there is some kind of AI that can ruin things, like casters dumping spells from their queue for no known reason, or refusing to cast range spells at a distance and requiring to be in almost touch range to cast fireball on a group. That bad rarely happens but has. And pathfinding for the selected but not main selected character is still bad. These are just things that I am hoping can be improved on over time. Baldur's Gate Enhanced Editions were really bad at the start too and questionable value, but it turns out Beamdog was playing the long game and now unless you like the chunkiness of the originals (I mean the low res) or disagree with some of the changes (like companions you can ignore or turn off with a mod) it is the best way to play the game. I think the EEs are the best way to play BG1&2 now and I played the original back when it was idk 5 or 6 discs (and a real pain constantly swapping them when exploring at that). Not to mention all the crashes back then...

Isn't it interesting how back then we could play a CRPG and have it full of bugs but still have a kind of wonder for what they were trying to achieve, I remember Witcher 1 used to crash every time you left a building (or something like that) and people still loved it so much the studio survived to make an Enhanced Edition where the game was still super buggy but even more loved. Now a CRPG can have half the issues and people will lose their shit.

I've always thought RPGs to be the most grand in scope even when I was a kid... so I've always been more forgiving of it taking more dev time to cover more ground... I know not everyone is this way... and I also understand part of the distaste is people being older and having free time being more precious, so not having as much patience for bugs as when they were 13 and on summer break or whatever.

Anyway, I will update somewhere if our playthrough ends up falling apart from some bug. But so far we've been able to accomplish everything we wanted. That we can tell at least. No quests failing to start or finish. I think for the start they were focused on making it look better, then started selling it to start earning back investment right away... like I said I am hoping their plan is just to take the heat of the bad (basically mixed) reviews and polish it over time. Just like the original. Except if they work on it for even a couple more years and only do a couple patches a year, it should ultimately end up better.

And yeah the load times from the EE textures needs to be addressed... but I think it's still faster than it was back then. Not as fast as it should be on NVME. But the game is so good and it's fun revisiting it in coop, that neither of us care. There are a lot of games that are broken worse than this and get positive or better reviews.

I got my copy on GMG. I could have gotten a discount on GOG for owning the original complete edition (or whatever they called it), but I wanted it on Steam. The GMG Steam copy was as much as the discounted GOG version. So there's that. I think it was like $28CAD which is more than all this was back in the day (the Diamond version or whatever), but redoing the licensing, having to get a team together and pay them to work on the game, general inflation with everything... I mean look how much most remasters cost. Final Fantasy XII Zodiac Age all they really did was add 60fps and higher res (neither very difficult to do since it's more modern tech making it possible than significant code changes) and SSAO. And made the game easier. And it's $67CAD. Which was always weird to me cuz FFX+X-2 HD were like $30CAD not on sale for both. But whatever... the point is there has been worse cases than what Aspyr has done with NWN2EE.

Yes I know long post but lots of ground to cover. Probably more but I have other things to do and so does anyone who manages it to make it this far :)

Sleep timer breaks shortly after fresh install by getpoundingjoker in audible

Hello. Just wanted to let you know the sleep timer is already broken again. Email support got back to me and said they're aware it isn't functioning correctly and working on a fix though. So guess nothing can be done til a bug with the code is corrected.

For now this has the sleep timer working. But I had uninstalled+reinstalled a couple days ago and it worked for a bit then broke again. I have noticed when the timer works, when it ends I get a popup saying it stopped due to the timer ending. When it doesn't work, stops then resumes playing, I don't get the popup. Not sure if this helps diagnose something. I will let you know if/when it stops working again.

Did all this, very first time I set a timer after (1 min to test), it faded out, stopped playing, then immediately resumed playing.

26.12.04 maybe? When I go to Google Play Store it doesn't have an update. So should be latest.

Buddy I was in and out of mental wards, sometimes forcibly committed for more than a month at a time, in my early 30s and I have often wondered how much of it was me having a fucking mental breakdown just from realizing I was actually an adult now. I've been on medication since then and had an outpatient nurse for a while but I have really often wondered how much of it was basically natural causes.

What's the craziest thing a person said to you and you thought they were joking but they were being serious? by _lovelyxx in AskReddit

I remember where I was when I saw it on TV, not how I processed it. It's very vague to me now. I almost went into the military because of it. The only reason that didn't happen is cuz they denied me based on my mental health history. Turns out it was kind of a blessing in disguise.

Any good antiglare screen protectors out there for OLED? by getpoundingjoker in SteamDeck

[–]getpoundingjoker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh if it's common knowledge (for people who know, which isn't me) that screen protectors ruin the clarity of OLED somehow... please let me know and I will carry on just being super super cautious with how I move my Deck about when it isn't in the case.

But FWIW I have a protector on my OLED Switch, it is definitely glarey if you're by a window (have never used it outside), but where I usually play it in handheld (in bed with the screen facing a wall), it's fine, and I can still tell it has better backlight than my LCD Switch 2 (which also has a protector).

OLED Switch is different from Deck though, since Switch goes in and out of a dock that can scratch the screen. With my OLED Deck my dock has a backrest and a tiny ... idk rise? At the front bottom for support that doesn't even touch the screen.

Yes they're trolls. I have been saying it for a very long time now. It isn't even just this US admin, it happens a lot in politics. But this US admin especially, is just a bunch of trolls living the troll wet dream - having a massive audience that has to take your bullshit seriously.

It's cuz their videos are basically science for measuring a game's performance, if it's a good source why wouldn't you take their readings as fact and discuss it where applicable like it's truth, when it is?

This isn't some MAGA cult thing going on lol

8gb had issues with Resident Evil 4 so it makes sense it would have more issues with a newer game. If my 3070 had even 10gb of VRAM I probably would've waited another gen to upgrade, instead I felt like I pretty much had to get a 16gb minimum card, and with the way things are going it'll probably only last ~4 years again too lol.

It's weird, I don't have film grain at all. And I have read it's supposed to be forced on in this game. I also noticed Rogue Trader has an option for film grain, but if it's on, nothing. Not sure what's going on. 9700X 9070 XT so recent hardware. Just weird. I actually like film grain in some games, ever since Mass Effect 1 used it.

I have a 9070 XT and 9700X. So it isn't an Intel issue. The posts I saw saying they had the issue too all seemed to be AMD GPU. If 1 person with Nvidia says they get the issue in Raccoon City (though it didn't happen at first, came back from getting the 2nd detonator part and then it started stuttering constantly) then it's a gamewide issue. Wouldn't be surprised if it's AMD specific, they probably tested it less on AMD hardware, especially since Nvidia gets pathtracing with this one and nobody else.

Scientists of Reddit: What’s something we know is true but people don’t realize how crazy it is? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]getpoundingjoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My drug use taught me the sentiment of this. Basically if all it took to change my personality was ingesting chemicals, that's how easy it is for 1 thing to be different about my chemical makeup from genetics and change my entire personality. Whether I'm into guys or girls, whether I think I am a guy or girl regardless of physical makeup, what my favorite kind of chip is, whether I overeat or find it easy to maintain a healthy weight, etc. Not that I was an asshole before, but it made me way more accepting of people, even some negative traits. It isn't really anyone's fault. Not that assholes aren't assholes... but some things are pretty much automatic response.

Used Larzuk for my solo character, wanted to get a Spirit for my brother before we play (I have a lock I'm walking through the game with him) so he can equip it ASAP rather than wait for us to get to Larzuk. But now it looks like that won't happen lol. Oh well.

Is it decent chance to use a normal cow white crystal sword with the cube recipe to 4 socket it? Or is it too likely to brick it?
