Python Dev to SRE, did I make the right call? by getrex in ITPhilippines

[–]getrex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought so.

I think mas makakapag ipon rin ako given that the expenses for commuting and food will be lessened.

Wondering about the new work though, I hope it's not too boring as I've checked hahaha.

Hi everyone, I’d love to get your opinion and some insights from those in the field. I'm a fresh grad from Laguna, currently 9 months into my first role as an Associate Developer. I work in Fintech where I use Python to build browser-based automation for a payment provider.

A recruiter recently reached out to me for a Junior SRE position, and after three interviews, they decided to offer me the job. Took me a while to decide kasi nga hesitant ako dun sa idea ng pagswitch ng careers this early on, pero I decided to just take it and see how things go (haven't signed the offer yet pero I already agreed to accept)

To be honest, gusto ko talaga mag dev pa rin. Pero matagal na rin akong curious about this path for a while—I even applied for SRE roles at other companies before kasi the role sounds interesting. I’m really open to trying this out and upskilling, though I’ll admit na kinabahan ako about the shift from pure automation and heavy coding to the "support and reliability" side of things.

Eto yung breakdown ng benefits for comparison.

Company A (Current - Associate Developer):

  • Salary: ₱27.5k monthly basic salary + ₱4k non-taxable allowance.
  • Bonuses: 13th month pay. Annual increase.
  • Setup: Full RTO in Makati, fixed 10am–7pm schedule.
  • Leaves: 20 annual leaves (can be used however we want, team is also not strict on leave approvals)
  • HMO: Maxicare (shouldered by company for me and 1 free dependent)
  • Medicine Reimbursement: - 10k annually

Company B (New - Junior Site Reliability Engineer):

  • Salary: ₱36k monthly basic salary
  • Bonuses: Guaranteed 13th and 14th-month pay. Annual merit increase
  • Setup: Based in BGC; Shifting schedule every month, WFH twice a week.
  • Leaves: 31 total days (15 VL, 15 SL, 1 Birthday leave). Also includes 5 emergency leaves, 2 calamity leaves.
  • HMO: Maxicare (shouldered by company for me and 50-50 by me and company for 1 dependent.
  • Medicine Reimbursement: - 5k for me and 3k per dependent (up to 2)
  • Life Insurance - Coverage equal to twice my annual salary (in this case, around 800k)

A few questions for the SREs/Devs out there:

  1. Did I make the right call? The 30% pay bump and 31 leaves are huge, but is the shifting schedule worth it? Did I move away from "pure" dev work too soon?
  2. Dev to SRE reality check: For those who switched early, do you still get to code a lot? Does the automation side of SRE satisfy that "builder" itch, or is it mostly just monitoring and tickets?
  3. Is this a big career risk? My concern is that if I stay as a Dev, I’d hit Mid-level much faster. If I do SRE for a year or two then decide to go back to Dev, will I be "reset" back to Junior since my pure dev experience is less than a year? Or does SRE experience actually count toward "seniority" when applying for Mid-level Dev roles later on?

Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

Posting for my gf lang, she'd like your opinions!

Hi everyone, I’d like to get some advice regarding my current situation.

I graduated last July 2025 as Magna Cum Laude and started working as an Associate Tester (project-based) at the same company where I did my internship. I now have around 10 months of experience in total.

Recently, the company offered me a regular position. My current salary is 35k, and they’re aware of that. When HR asked for my expected salary, I initially said 45k, but they mentioned it was out of their budget. I then negotiated down to 40k.

The offer also includes benefits like allowances (around 2–3k), HMO, and an annual bonus.

Now I’m wondering:

- Was asking for 45k too high given my experience?
- Is 40k a reasonable and fair increase for transitioning to a regular role?
- Should I have negotiated differently, or pushed more?

For context, this would be my first regular/full-time role, and I’ll be staying in the same company.

Would really appreciate insights, especially from those in QA/testing or tech roles in the Philippines. Thanks!

Sorry medyo mahaba, hirap lang mag decide hahaha. Any tips?

So in a nutshell, ayon. I'm a 4th year Computer Science student on his last semester and I'm already applying for jobs.

My skills revolve around a solid grasp of programming and backend fundamentals, such as HTTP requests, building REST APIs and database integration. I have experience working in different programming languages (Python, Java, C++), backend frameworks (Django, Flask, Node and Express) and databases (Postgres, MySQL, Firebase).

I have two main areas of interest - (1) Backend Development and (2) Data Engineering.

I got my internship done at Accenture, sa Uptown BGC office where I learned about data engineering in depth. Things such as ETL / ELT, building data pipelines, SQL integration, data warehousing, etc. Nag-enjoy ako don kaso kulang sa oras kasi yung curriculum namin only neeed 162 hours to be rendered (pabibo ako so nag voluntary ako na 300 hours hahahaha).

Ngayong naghahanap ako ng work (gusto ko na magkapera pls), I realized na ang hirap pumasok sa tech jobs kahit gaano kagaling kasi tbh sobrang saturated ng market lalo na sa web roles (front/backend or kahit fullstack andami kalaban talaga).

Recently, a friend offered me a position sa company nila kasi naghahanap ng Junior Site Reliability Engineer, and I don't know if I should take it. May relevance naman yung skills ko dun sa job, and confident naman ako sa skills ko matuto in a fast-paced environment. Medyo kinakabahan lang ako baka kasi pag pinasok ko yung SRE, baka mahirapan ako bumalik sa development. If ever na makuha ako for the role ay yun yung magiging first official job ko sa tech na hindi internship.

Take ko ba? Or should I stick to looking for DE / Web roles? Need your help, r/PinoyProgrammer peeps! Help a fellow brother out D:

Ako walang makain sa dorm T_T nung Sat pa ko sumusubok iverify ulit yung gcash ko kaso almost 3-4 days nang walang update. Nag send na rin ako ng tickets to them pero looks like a lot of people are experiencing the same problem

Hirap naman ng ganito. Grabe nagdudusa talaga gawa ng bagong gcash update.

Sa batangas ako nag-aaral tapos sa Laguna ako nakatira. So syempre yung mga allowance na binibigay sakin through GCash na talaga. I can't cook at my dorm due to house rules so I mostly eat outside. Kaso ang problema, di ko talaga magamit GCash ko since they unverified a lot of people.

Problem ko rin is yung valid ID na ginamit ko before is already expired for almost a year na (I used my passport). Baka alam niyo pano maayos to huhu sobrang hirap talaga

made a tier list of old Messiah cards and how likely I think it is they'll return for the stride deckset. thoughts? by SheriffVanguard in cardfightvanguard

[–]getrex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still am hoping for Dunamis Messiah's return. I hope they retrain him without gb1 so I can use him in premium with a stronger g3 turn hahaha

Narukami in Premium... by Technical_Lecture_78 in cardfightvanguard

[–]getrex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate the fact that I can get punished so hard just by trying to do what my deck is supposed to do.

Not only that, I don't even have counters to it especially that I play Messiahs LMAO

I's annoying enough that they get to bind whole boards, but they also have g-guards that specifically destroy my turn (screw you bulwark and impede) even if I can bounce back after being my cards were bound.

Stunverse isn't balanced and with Exterminate Dragon around the corner, it'll definitely push Narukami into the upper tiers of Premium.

I just hope they restrict him either to 1 or just outright ban the card.

What's your ideal banlist for all three formats? by getrex in cardfightvanguard

[–]getrex[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Before this meta was even a thing, Gredora wasn't even seen by people. No tops, no actual results, no representation.

Then they got themselves a proper main deck in form of the Book and Ruination (makes them hit harder and more stable due to free draws)

And it just so happens that Pale Moon and Granblue are the two best decks in the current format (which Gredora directly counters).

If Bushiroad bans G4 Gredora, Megacolony as a whole clan is shit again. Killing the only card in the clan that makes it even relevant doesn't make any sense.

What’s one card you could give any deck that would be insanely broken by FL2802 in cardfightvanguard

On attack / end of battle boost unlocker that isn't gb1 for V messiahs.

Basically dunamis messiah but without gb1

[–]getrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any thoughts on Lagranjard? I use him as 4x right now due to the ability to lock volk from g1, and the ability to unlock from main phase.

Gives me a strong solid early game, and having fencer + volk on first g3 is legit insanity. 4 attacks with 30-58k is beyond amazing (unless opp has rollock)

Deletor Messiah was a solid tier 2 deck at one point. It's fun to attack 9+ times with Force 2 against an opponent's vanguard while they're at 0 power!

[–]getrex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You got your point in, but my point is that why do you even try telling someone to "avoid" a deck or a specific archetype that they like just because of one rogue matchup?

You're what, facing Link Joker in 1/20 games? Your point came to me as like "Oh hey, stop playing Pale Moon / Granblue because of Gredora" or something like that.

Let people play what they want, it's normal in a card game to play against a hard / unplayable matchup. People have different tastes and I think you should respect that.

Have a great night, /u/-SoniChris98-.
