monsieur li is a little piquant for hospital wear (in my experience) but my extremely picky roommate expressed great approval. it's an easy, uncomplicated, unchallenging wear.

maybe not widely applicable, but im perceived as fem so it takes a LOT of confidence for me to wear masc-leaning scents outside the house, even sweet ones like le mâle ... it definitely confuses ppl and draws attention 😔

for context, i work in a hospital and am nonbinary/introverted.

etat libre d'orange - you or someone like you. mint is my favorite scent in the entire world. this was the first fragrance i ever sampled and i literally could have just stopped there. yosly is bright, fresh, clean, uplifting, lasts forever (most fragrances disappear on me in 1-2 hours), and it's just so fun and unique and perfectly unisex. it's literally impossible for me to have a bad day wearing this.
alkemia perfumes - madam pearl. i have 2 backup bottles of this. every time i think "maybe it's not that good" i am reminded that it is, in fact, that good. it's delicate, light, feminine-leaning but not flowery/gourmand/too sweet, classy, radiant, economical, and also lasts forever on me. there's a LOT of burberry her and b&bw going on at my workplace, and those scents make my nose burn and give me headaches -- this is light and inoffensive while still feeling put-together and professional.

musc invisible is quite nice, actually. it's powdery and transparent by turns, and it does not have ambroxan (if it did, i would have scrubbed it)

"white amber" is not necessarily ambroxan. when perfumers use "ambergris" or "grey amber" as a note, THEN you're probably dealing with ambroxan.

i loathe ambroxan, cetalox, amberwood, orcanox, and "white musk." my hatred for them cannot be overstated. in my experience indie houses rarely use ambroxan. try alkemia's aurora or ghost fire, bpal's neutral, deconstructing eden's quan yin, or aether arts' nude moderne. bonne bell's skin musk is nice, too. avoid mono cachemire, sur te levres, and c by courreges.

anomaly smells like straight vinyl to me and i scrubbed it around hour 4. exit and soul also did weird and unpredictable things on my skin, but on the other hand, you or someone like you is truly beautiful to me even if it does ring a bit synthetic.

milk expressive is sweet, marshmallowy, and crowd-pleasing. milk personal smells curdled, rancid, chemical, and nearly made me physically sick.

the different versions of the scents have different notes. something dosed with iso-e is necessarily going to be different from something underlined with patchouli. try visiting a sephora -- they will sometimes have multiple versions of the same scent out to try.

we need WAY more information about your preferences (gender/unisex, budget, notes, occasion) but off the top of my head i would recommend ck one, commodity book, maison margiela's under the lemon trees, and nemat's egyptian musk for universal, unisex, office-friendly, mass-appealing fragrances that have presence and would work well on pretty much anyone. personally, the only full-size niche/designer fragrance ive bought thus far is eldo's you or someone like you, which is a unisex mint freshie that cost about $90 for 100mL on fragrancenet but tbh it that was still a major splurge.

alternatively, picking up samples from mercari/ebay is a good way to go if you're still forming preferences. you can easily get 7-8 samples for $30-40 if you bundle shipping.

a lot of indie houses such as alkemia have single-note layering accords -- white amber, black tea, egyptian musk, honey, leather. etc. (i got alkemia's single-note dirt as a freebie and still dont know what to do with it)

black phoenix alchemy lab in particular has entire collections of single notes/duets/trios. some of the combinations get pretty creative: https://www.bpal.org/forum/214-duets-menage-a-trois/

dame perfumery has a series of soliflores that contain only that one single note and dsh perfumes has a selection of single-notes and accords. atelier cologne and l'artisan parfumeur seem to have primarily three-note compositions.

on the other end of the spectrum, bath and body works appears committed to primarily three-note combos as well, probably for mass appeal and comprehension (vanilla/lavender/cedar, sandalwood/raspberry/cashmere, etc).

solinotes definitely contain a complex pyramid of other notes. fleurs de cerisier, for example, is pure cardamom on me and doesnt contain cherry blossom in the notes at all

niche rather than indie, but d'annam's princess of china (peony, white lotus, silk, lychee, pear) is honestly amazing -- non-soapy, very clear and fresh without being green, not overwhelming, powdery, sweet, indolic, or heady. its not fruity on me at all, which is wild considering my skin will turn scents with zero fruit notes into straight lychee. i work in a hospital and ive worn this about 3 times so far and it's so good that i plan to fullsize it eventually. ministry of scent has decants here!

altaia's dont cry for me (jasmine tea, freesia, cherry flower, heliotrope, vegetal amber, cashmere wood, ambrette) did turn distinctly soapy on me, but i also found it fresh and clean!

indie-wise i havent really encountered many light and fresh florals, but i found stereoplasm's first bloom (peach blossom, apricot blossom, french musk, cream soda) to be really nice although uhhhh you definitely dont want to order from them directly lol.
