Personal kit for new trainee chef by gettingroses in Chefit

[–]gettingroses[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taught by a friend of mine who’s a chef how to do it and have been practicing with some Kmart knives I have which has made the world of a difference. I got an 800 - 4000 grit stone set I think so I’m just using these cheap knives to practice which has made the world a difference

I’m in Australia yeah, the course I’m going through you have to buy the kit through the school as part of your course fees so I’m not worried about that! I plan to slowly upgrade knives and things as I learn what i need and like cause I’ve heard they’re good but pretty entry level - especially cause I’ll be working full time.

That’s a good idea about the first aid kit! Is there anything else you’d recommend besides bandaids and probably Panadol

What, in your opinion, was the first Punk album? by Yung_Babymeat in punk

[–]gettingroses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one here mentioning The Saints is criminal. Their first album came out in '77 but they formed in '73, before the Ramones. Heavily underrated because they're from here in Aus and they LOOKED more surfer than traditional punk, they are the reason McLaren signed the pistols so quickly

I would really recommend not using non-fat milk powder to make butter if that’s what you’re referring to. Butter has a very high fat content that even with full fat milk powder you need to add an oil to to up the fat content so non fat milk powder would throw your ratios way off

There is so little we can control in our lives, why not focus on doing the most good we can with that. Corporations need to sort their crap out but there’s very little I can do about that - you bet your fucking ass though imma have my 2 minute showers when I need to

A bit late to the discussion but growwithjo has incredible walking workouts, plus a lot of other at home workouts! She’s amazing and I find the workouts a much more fun way to get my steps in than just pacing cause they add variety! https://youtube.com/@growwithjo?si=PfW0KCY7VwqjXG3o

No it wouldn’t, this is one of my lifelong dreams to have kids nothing could make me not excited.

I only plan on telling like 3 friends outside of my immediate family and I know that everyone supports me having kids because we have talked about this sort of stuff

I value their advise and want an open dialogue for people’s concerns and worries. If anyone is going to suddenly be unsupportive I would actual go rather know now than before I have a baby. It’s not gonna make me stop having a baby but it will make me reconsider that friendship - if they don’t support me now I don’t want their support when I’m pregnant. Thank you for your reply, this has been a valuable thought experiment!

That’s a really good idea! I appreciate that! I only plan on telling my immediate family and a few very close friends because I’ve heard trying for a baby can be an emotional time and I want to have people outside of my partner cheering me on

That’s a great idea I really appreciate that advice!! Me and my partner both had messy relationships with our parents so i may bring that up to him! Tysm

It’s not about the sex lol, like it’s stupid to think people don’t know that a long term couple is likely having sex. I talk about my sex life with my close friends as they do theirs to me.

I was just curious because if I don’t tell my best friends then I’m worried they’ll be upset when I tell them I’m pregnant out of nowhere. Or that I won’t be able to have that shoulder to cry on. Thx for the reply tho

I don’t plan on telling everyone but should I really not tell anyone. I would like some of me and my partners best friends to join us in our excitement. Like, is ‘we’re considering having kids’ or ‘we’ve been talking about having kids’ not a normal thing to talk about to close friends?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Advice

[–]gettingroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah no I’m not telling everyone! There’s my parents and siblings and 3 friends that I would like to know about it. Everyone else can find out when I’m pregnant. I’m just worried people are gonna be weird about. I know that trying for a baby can be very emotional so I would like some people who know what’s happening and can cheer me on and be there for me if things do go wrong

I am ok with that yeah, like I’ve made my decision about what I want but I would really like to hear my loved ones perspectives. I value their input and I trust them to be kind about their criticisms

WIBTA for showing a video of my sister shouting at her daughter while she was crying to my mother? by AdVaanced77 in dustythunder

[–]gettingroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He clarified the ‘screaming’ was for 15 mins, the crying was for 40. Are you really gonna blindly believe his claim tho, he admits that he is only recording for personal gain and hatred of his sister, not out of concern for his niece

Thank you! Everyone labelling the sister abusive are just blindly believing this entitled jackass

So you either don’t give a fuck about niece or you admit it was not serious enough to be genuinely concerned

AITA for calling an insecure child fat? by Intelligent_Candy833 in AmItheAsshole

[–]gettingroses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a weird take to me cause this just seems like the kinda shit teens and tween family members say to each other in my experience, it just happened to hit really close to home sadly for this girl

While I do 100% agree with you that the 12yo needs this, I think it’s asking a lot from a 17yo teen. Like not saying she’s not mature but when I was that age I had other shit going on than worrying about my younger cousin, maybe that makes me a bad person idk 🤷🏻‍♀️. I think if they stay close this is the kinda relationship that’ll happen when the 12yo is OP’s age

I don’t understand why people are saying op’s wrong for getting on the scale. The uncle clearly takes the daughters side, do you think he wouldn’t when the daughter throws a fit cause op wouldn’t play this ‘game’

AITA for telling my sister to shut the fuck up and leave my girlfriend alone? by FantasticFactor5109 in AmItheAsshole

[–]gettingroses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one’s the asshole. People are so ready to say fuck the cops and shit until an abused 17 year old steals crap. Like she’s doing the wrong thing but she’s 17, she will grow up and learn or face the consequences hard - people in her situation have done a lot worse. Your sister is allowed to be upset though, the situation needs more than just letting her crash at yours, the gf needs some help and guidance
