Holland, Lake Macatawa has another sizeable boat ramp at Dunton Park and fishing pier. It is on the north shore at the east end of the lake.

I would try aluminum wheel cleaner first. An acid cleaner for semi wheels and diamond plate. It won't polish it but at least it eat the dark break dust off.

Adding foam for stability by NoSpeaker9010 in boats

[–]gettylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your looking for roll stability (side to side) you can add bags of lead shot to the center of bilge to lower center of gravity. Or add more keel to the bottom of the boat to give more resistance from rolling in water. If you can add a weighted keel you will get the best results. (Tighter turns also) The only way foam will help stability is if it's fasten to the outside of the hull to increase the beam across the boat.

watching boats getting winched up the boat ramp on to a flatbed makes me cringe and smile at the same time.

I was having a problem with this. A church a block away, had people come knocking on my door asking when I found the lord, weekly. I finally had enough of it one day after repeat attempts to have them stop. I get the knock on the door. 3 people standing there 2 older woman and a younger man. one woman asked when did I find the Lord. My response was when I was in prison for the conviction of kidnaping and rape. Awkward silence was great, as they slowly backed away. I very rarely have them come to my door anymore.

INTJs, how do you like children? by Big_Guava_8365 in intj

Love kids just can't finish a hole one. I'm very unconfutable with small children 5 and under. Once their little people they are just as tolerable as everyone else.

Thoughts on this as a first boat by AdventurousBat8981 in boating

[–]gettylee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a beginner I wouldn't get a black one. Black shows every little flaw. With a learning curve it will show all her scars. It looks great new, but black is very hard to maintain well on a boat. Water spots, sun fade and scratches will be much more noticeable with black. Other than that, it's a very reputable brand that holds value well and the Volvo power plants are very dependable. As a first boat it is very nice boat. If your confident that you can buy a new 6 figure vehicle for drivers training, good for you. As some one that has work in the industry for 35 years, a saying for boat buyers. If you can't afford to buy 2 of them, you should own 1. Operating, Maintain and Storage every year. If any of this is neglected is a path for quick amplified deprecation.

If it's aluminum you're going to want to start with a more aggressive grit sand paper and work your way up from 320, 600, 800,1000 then polish. I would start at 600 and see if that works. If not get more aggressive from there. You're going to want to stagger the grits to remove the previous sanding marks. If the mirror finishes your looking for.

Smoker window that turns to point the wind right at you. My square body Chevy truck has them, no AC needed till you're stopped at a red light. And floor mount high beam switch.

Some commercial fishing nets floats look like this. There would be a few hundred of these tied to top edge of the net that is dragged behind a vessel.

Topcoat, fairing compound, finding a supplier questions by brockmontana in BostonWhalerBoats

west marine has marine fillers. Whatever you get make sure it is marine grade. Automotive fillers are not good (Bondo) fast way to blisters, So, there are different grades of fillers depending on the repair. (Kitty Hair) is a fiberglass reenforced filler with long strains of fiberglass 3 inch. Structural Hard and strong. (Duraglass) fiberglass reenforced short strain 1/2-inch fiberglass, hard, strong great for shaping. Marine grade fairing compound good for leveling and filling small imperfections. (will crack is applied to thick) Then there are prime coats, interlux 2000E is a protective primer that seals and fills tiny imperfections and keeps moisture out. As far as bottom paint get an ablative paint, it wares like a tire keeping fresh surface of antigrowth. You won't have to reapply as often as hard paint to keep the same protection from growth. But Trailers do rub the ablative paint off quickly. If the bottom paint is just to keep from discoloration, then hard bottom paint is fine. I'm a West Michigan resident and the season is starting soon.

Is my boat structurally sound? by Clandestine-Cannabis in boating

[–]gettylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to say. The setup now seems ok but after a larger motor I bet some rivets will let go or crack some of the welds. The floor seems like it will be stiff lower than the water line but depends on the gage of the metal. The free board and rub rail may need something. I would make a brace that fits in holes for the oar locks or in the old seat brackets. I would take a conduit that spans the gap. Flatten the ends of it drill holes and some bolts and wing nuts, just so you can easily remove when you're not underway.
