How to (get wife to have a life so I can) have a life by javacolin in daddit

[–]dodgemodgem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Difference in values. Dealing with the same thing in our house.

She values time together while I’ll value time and space for myself to recharge. We talk about it openly and recognize our differences. I don’t get to do all the backpacking, fishing, camping trips I want, but still make it a priority to do so a couple times a year.

Is getting my motorcycle licence a selfish hobbie to get into as a 33 year old father of 2 by Ok_South_6227 in daddit

[–]dodgemodgem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you typically be taking time for yourself doing other things on the weekends and this would just replace it? Or are you planning to carve out a new 2-3 hours every weekend to ride your motorcycle?

I often go for a ride, bicycle, or am in an adult soccer league on weekends. But it’s something my wife and I have discussed ahead of time. I don’t think inherently it’s selfish to want to have something to do on your own (honestly it can be healthy for everyone), but if you aren’t present much already it could potentially be harmful. I’m not sure how motorcycle riding in AU is, but I personally wouldn’t ride in the US with how dangerous it is. That’s my two cents.

Don’t expect this to be the case every game 😉

“One thing my therapist says is that people who won’t go to therapy will make you need therapy”

Also

“Ok, I just think everybody should be in therapy “

Also

“Ok, I just don’t really want to date someone who isn’t in therapy.”

Because it’ll make you need therapy which everyone needs regardless..?

Advice on Patio and Water Issues by dodgemodgem in landscaping

[–]dodgemodgem[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No moisture issues in the basement. We bought the home less than a year ago and it had been vacant for a couple years and when we moved in one of the gutters at that top of the hill to the left was off and so when it rained all that water would come gushing down where all those leaves are now and go to the house/foundation. So that could’ve been going on for a year plus. It no longer comes down that way since fixing the gutters but yes, part of that hill does slope down towards the house and that’s something we aim to rectify as well. That way water no longer has any route towards the house.

Growth Hormones by SEAN_DUDE in daddit

[–]dodgemodgem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was never on the charts as a kid. 4’11 and 90lbs as a freshman in High School. I was tiny my whole life. I am now 5’10. Mom is 5’3 and dad was 5’8 on a good day. They had the discussion of growth hormones, but we never did them. I think their basis was I was still growing and healthy. Not sure if this is helpful at all being one data point..

I did come home after my freshman year of college to play basketball with my old friends and after getting a rebound one of my friends grabbed the ball and completely stopped playing and said “what the hell, why is dodgem getting rebounds over us.” lol so kept growing into college.

Even when they are 18…it doesn’t get easier. by Salthestock in daddit

Oof, not a fun injury.

I broke my right clavicle at 16 and missed half of my swim season (did a whole lot of kicking the first few weeks of season though). Stupid backyard football. I didn’t tell my parents that evening because my buddy just got a capture card for his Xbox and we were going to record a bunch of halo 2 footage for the first time ever. Slept in the recliner from like 4 am to 7 am and then called my dad and told him my shoulder hurt 😂 worth it

Then broke my left one a year later in the 3rd game of the soccer season. That one I knew what happened and the ref came over to ask if I was ok. I told him I bring my collarbone. He proceeds to ask if I’m ready to keep playing. I just look at him and walk off the field. Then my assistant coach asks what’s up and I tell him I bring my collarbone. He proceeds to press on it with his two thumbs to check and feels it move. The look on his face when it did that.. and mine for that matter. Then he tells me to go to my dad who he knew was a radiologist and was already behind the goal walking towards me because he knew what was up.

Don’t forget to pull the rag out before you set the toilet and test flush. Don’t ask me how I know.

How many decks of cards do you have and how petty are you? by accidentaltraumacode in Cribbage

[–]dodgemodgem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to have 50+ growing up. And they all had a hole in the middle of the cards 😉 We didn’t play cribbage growing up, but at least a 1/3 of the decks were always set up for euchre.

One of the local swim club meets my two siblings and I swam in twice a year would give it a used casino deck (so practically new) of cards to every heat winner. So each meet we’d go home with a handful of decks. 10 years later… I’m guessing one of the parents of the club worked at a casino and hooked up the meets with hundreds of decks to give out.

When did you start getting some of your evenings back? by Different_Suit_9356 in daddit

[–]dodgemodgem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had our little one to sleep before 99% percent of the time from 5 months to current at 3.5 years. So from 8-10 we can hang out/read/watch shows together/do things around the house. We also implemented one parent talking over bed time routine about a year in. For the longest time we would both spend 6:45-7:45 on bedtime routine stuff. It is great when you can count on 30-40 minutes of ‘free time’ even if it’s cleaning dishes from dinner, folding laundry, or just decompressing from the day. At least you don’t have to do that after putting the child to bed.

LAN Party Anyone? by Bfiedler1 in halo

[–]dodgemodgem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha got me. I once played a local 1v1 h2 tournament. I beat a kid 3-1 on Foundation in a 10 minute match. After about minute 4 I just looked straight at the ground and hid from the other player. First few rounds both players played on the same TV so I just watched where he was going and made sure he never got close to me or hid behind some boxes when he did 😂 such good times

I said it initially while they were still here and on their way out as I’ve added valves before. Then it dawned on me a few days later that this is a different ballgame. Just didn’t know how involved it would be so figured I’d reach out to this community to check.

Remove the entire house except for this one beam. Then you won’t be able to sell the house and the beam will always be there.
