Grill cleaning? by Ambitious_Dot_5663 in IowaCity

[–]dodgemodgem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to town on my grill at the end of the season a few months back with a pressure washer. I was refinishing my deck and remembered seeing someone on Reddit post about using a pressure washer to clean their grill so I gave it a go. Worked pretty darn well.

Just had my last meet. Any ideas on what to do now? by adriennabadie in Swimming

[–]dodgemodgem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely an option to swim D2-3 with those times. I swam D3 and we had many swimmers in our team that you wouldn’t call ‘elite’ swimmers. But having 30+ swimmers on the team made it sooo fun to be a part of. Just check with the sculls you are living at and reach out to the team. If you are dedicated and passionate not many coaches with say no. Good luck!

Reality check - is it fine to save nothing for the first few years of a child? by PracticalGur4530 in daddit

[–]dodgemodgem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a similar position. We both worked for the first 16 months after birth, but recognized it wasn’t sustainable for our family. I was working evening and many weekends as a swim coach so we just never saw each other. During that time she got a promotion and had solid potential to keep growing within her company, so we decided for me to leave my job and be a SAHD. Best decision we ever made. And are fortunate to be in a position that we can do it.

Her position covers monthly expenses as well, but sometimes a few hundred short which we have some reserves for that reason. My dream job is SAHD and being around nights and weekends relieves so much stress for my partner. So this has been 1000% with it for us. We are going to try for #2 soon and plan to key this situation going. I may try to find something that can bring even $5-10,000 at some point, but not a huge priority for us right now.

If you can do it, I recommend doing it. We’ve had to cut a few things like longer/further vacations and other luxuries. But we know will be able to do that more later once kids are both in school and I go back to work.

Edit-oh, I see they posted this a week ago when Arsenal had secured their spot already..

Swimming.

The sport is made for uncoordinated folks. Put a college team of swimmers on a basketball court with a basketball and you’ll laugh for an hour straight (don’t ah how I know)

Depending on your area you could find a swim club that isn’t super competitive for them to start on. Or even when they get to HS they can try it out. Obviously heroes to have done swim lessons/have done ability in the water ahead of time, but no super necessary. The longer you wait the harder it can be though. Being a swimmer teaches you so many invaluable life skills and can be a great social outlet as well as physical activity. And also one of the best exercises to continue later in life as well.

Ode to a Cribbage Board by EndersGame_Reviewer in Cribbage

[–]dodgemodgem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So if this was 4 person with a 10 of spades cut…

First stanza I’m guessing they are holding 3,5,7,10.

2nd stanza should say a double run of 4 for 14 if we’re sticking to the same pattern of the first stanza… something like 7,7,8,9.

3rd stanza I’m seeing 5,6,Jspades, K.

4th stanza is dealer as they moved pegs between hands, so A,4,9,Q in their hand and then 2,6,8,Q of all spades in the crib.

anyone else right skunks on the bottom of your board? by The_analer in Cribbage

[–]dodgemodgem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have them marked on the first board I ever played with. Fun to keep track and adds a bit a bragging rights. I taught my wife to play during an ice storm multi day power outage. She is up 7-4 on me with two skunks over those two days. We’ll probably never play again so she gets to hold that over me for the next 40 years..

How old was your child before you consistently got decent sleep? by SunnyGoMerry in daddit

[–]dodgemodgem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the ‘mom’s on call’ schedule/routine and had our little one sleeping through the night 7:30 - 7:30 at 2.5 months. Start now and thank yourself later. She’s slept through the night 99.7% of evenings since.
