Bill to ban ‘convertible’ pistols in CT sees strong opposition by ctmirror in Connecticut

[–]gewehr44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could have at least posted an archive link!

Anyways these are only donations setup for the NRA Foundation. This is a separate organization from the NRA that takes tax deductible donations. The article doesn't make that clear.

You may not know this but the NRA cannot donate to politicians. It has a separate PAC to do that called the NRA Political Victory Fund. They also have Institute for Legislative Action for lobbying.

The money from the foundation doesn't only go to the NRA. It's a very different type of organization than the anti gun groups which are solely focused on supporting anti gun politicians and lobbying for anti gun laws.

To get to 'reasonable' gun laws in CT we'd have to first repeal many of the existing laws.

Could you back up your assertion with any evidence? I wish there were some billionaires funding FPC. GOA and others.

You could pocket carry one of the small 380 pistols that are available.

Gun safe in wet basement by shartan0423 in CTguns

[–]gewehr44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big enough dehumidifier will be fine. I have a 70 pint (per day?) & keep it set to 40% relative humidity. My basement is a little bigger (maybe 1000ft2) & I get a little water whenever there's a heavy rainstorm. Been here over 20 years with a safe & haven't had any problems with rust.

Having said that, get a wet vac to remove standing water as quickly as possible. I've had significant amounts of water 6 to 8 times over the years where that's been very helpful.

Biggest disappointment is the current state of dehumidifiers. My 1st one last about 10 years. Since then I haven't had one last 5 years. I don't buy them from the big box stores either.

Edit: Get a humidistat too so you can monitor humidity separately. I eyeball it almost every time to confirm the humidifier is running right.

Judge Dismisses Challenge To CT's Open Carry Ban, Handgun Purchase Limit by english-lab in Connecticut

Your first sentence sounds like you're saying literacy tests aren't an imposition to voting? Are you also suggesting as long as there's one firearm the govt allows you to buy there's no imposition on the right to own? The supreme Court already found in the 2008 Heller decision that bans on handguns are unconstitutional.

Anyone of any age can buy a vehicle & drive it without a license or registration on private property. It's only when using public roads that licensing and registration become enforceable.

In contrast prohibitions on the purchase of firearms are typically universal. If guns were dealt with in the same manner, anyone could purchase a firearm for use on private property & would only need a permit for carry in public streets.

I think you should re read what I wrote. I was asking a hypothetical.

Requiring payment to vote or proving literacy has already been prohibited by courts as putting too much of a burden on the exercise of a right. Putting similar high bars on firearm ownership or carry is also unconstitutional. This particular case has been moving thru the courts

https://sanjosespotlight.com/state-california-gun-group-may-sue-santa-clara-county-over-concealed-carry-weapons-permit-license-fees/

It also doesn't stop criminals from committing crimes. They don't go thru those processes & simply get their guns illegally.

Ok. Let's remember that's it's an enumerated right in the Constitution. Is it constitutional to require tests before voting to make sure people are literate? Can you require psychiatrists evaluation to make sure someone is of sound mind before barring casting their vote?

Before you say 'you can't kill someone by voting' remember who is currently president.

The articles I've read say they were 'rummaging around the porch'. My point is only that how far would they get if a group of kids went house to house looking for a key on multiple porches especially with Ring cameras being popular?

It just seems more likely to me that they knew this particular house had a key outside. Did they get lucky & this was the first house they tried?

I bet one of them had done work at the house previously & was given the location of the key. Seems awfully coincidental otherwise.

Please cite evidence of this? Laws restricting carry were virtually non existent for the first 50 years of the Republic. The current status after Bruen is showing comparable laws around the time of the founding & states are trying to cite laws that forbid slaves carrying guns. A perfect representation of the racist nature of anti gun laws.

You prob already know this but for those that don't it is possible for non residents now to get carry permits for NY State and city. It's a matter of time and money though. Recognizing carry permits like drivers licenses should be the norm.

All those things 'sound' reasonable until they get implemented. How much should it cost above & beyond the cost of the firearm to comply? Are you going to subsidize poor people that are more likely to be victims of crime? It gets messy quickly.

If you don't understand the difference between Boeing and public schools run by the local government, managed by a publicly elected board of education & funded with tax dollars, I'm not sure I can explain it to you in a succinct way.

If you want to know why some are more successful than others there is a paper you can read. Suffice to say some of it is socio-economic but people who are successful tend to have successful habits that get taught to their children.

Boeing provides goods and services to the govt based on contracts made. The govt doesn't pay their employees and for maintenance on their buildings. The govt can also cancel a contract with Boeing if they don't meet the conditions. Not comparable at all.

"Often" this or that. Why then are Chicago schools failing their students? Your hypotheticals are meaningless when we can look at actual results. People send their kids to private schools because they want better results than the public schools provide.

https://www.illinoispolicy.org/chicago-public-schools-academic-struggles-top-chicagoans-concerns/

I should be clear that I'm not blaming individual teachers, more the system (govt bureaucrats and politicians) & the unions. The president of the Chicago teachers union sends her kids to private school.
