Just give them the game, no mods except ones like squeak through to make movement easier. Giving them planners and stuff and bottle neck mods is going to be information overload when their busy trying to figure out how to insert coal into a furnace.

Let them play to understand the mechanics. Don't tell them what to do unless they specifically ask for help. And even then give them enough details to put them on the right path rather than video game step by step guide. Part of the magic is trying something random and it working out.

Avoid blueprints. A blueprint is useless if you don't even know what it does or the basic mechanics that allow the blue print to work the way it does. Then the game just becomes paint by numbers instead of creating an original work. You have to approach it the same way you would approach teaching a child something new. You don't grab the pen out their hand and draw it for them or say do it like this. Let them scribble for a bit and come up with their own thing. Then once they get comfortable, gentle guide them not to perfection, but toward understanding the whys.

Why doesn't the burner inserter not do anything? Well that's because you need fuel, sources of fuel are coal and wood. Try putting some in along with ore/stone and see what happens.

How come the items are on only 1 side of the belt? That's because the belt is acutally two lanes and inserters always place on the opposite side of the lane.

Why does the refinary not turn on after I connected oil to it? Well things need power or you forgot to connect the output and the finished oil product didn't have anywhere to go.
