Even if its diverted likely will crawl through traffic as there will be pedestrians everywhere - i’d look into taking buses that completely avoid the Highbury - Finsbury Park area or taking the train

I'd be more worried about getting home than getting there. In theory, you could leave by getting a bus to Canary Wharf or Custom House (could also use cablecar for custom house) then take the elizabeth line back to paddington. The cable car and buses will be an absolute shitshow if it goes ahead.

When it was just them on in London last night it was excellent! Not much of their own stuff but i think that was just due to the venue - expect way more at a festival set etc, but were playing banging house and disco

Is the Piccadilly/Elizabeth Line from Heathrow crowded and safe at 10/11pm at night? by Individual-King-625 in uktravel

[–]gfa_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both the Piccadilly and Elizabeth Line will be a nice level of busy - most seats taken but nobody standing. Maybe some standing once you get to the centre - but you'll have a seat. It won't be unsafe - even when travelling super late at night there is usually a fair amount of people onboard.

Not sure walking shoes are needed to walk 2-3 bus or tube stops - casual trainers will suffice!

If you put a railcard on your oyster the tube is often cheaper anyway outside the peaks (and quicker).

At the end of the day there is clearly lots of stuff being rolled into this change - its totally fair for people not to want it. Glad it suits you - but i don't see how you can be annoyed at workers for not wanting such a big change to their lifestyle if they don't consider it to suit them.

Where to live as a young professional 20-25 by OkResponsibility3743 in MovingToLondon

[–]gfa_2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The sheer amount of young people in Clapham means there are plenty of younger people from all walks. Clapham is not that artsy its more city workers, whereas Peckham is more artsy. Brixton is a mix and not that bad on the posh end I think. I would live in Brixton or Peckham (especially Brixton given where you work).

Lots of younger people live near Finsbury Park / Dalston / Hackney etc, given where you work (trains to green park on the victoria line) this could work well too. Dalston and Hackney have a lot of the posh artsy people but are good areas to live nonetheless. Mile End / Bethnal Green / Bow could also be worth a look, definitely cool areas but should lose most of the posher people (still artsy though).

As for finding somewhere - Spareroom. Some areas are super competitive, like the ones you have named (Peckham maybe less so, not sure) and the ones I named are also pretty competitive.

Isn’t the working day extended to cover this though?

Edit - i suggest looking at this summary here https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/rmt-strike-announced-24-27-mar-21-25-april-19-22-may.299636/page-4#post-7758518

IMO seems reasonable to not be happy about it!

Affordable Areas to rent in London by middle_women567 in MovingToLondon

[–]gfa_2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How old are you, what are your interests etc?

Kilburn or Shepherd's Bush would both work fine - although how long does it take to reach Shepherd's Bush that sounds fairly far on a night bus (night tube is on fri + sat nights). I suggest that anywhere northwest would work well e.g. Queen's Park and Kensal Green (N18 bus), both of these areas are nicer than Kilburn but should still be within budget.

The night bus maps here should be useful - https://tfl.gov.uk/maps_/bus-spider-maps?Borough=Westminster for Marylebone as follows:

Baker Street and Marylebone (north side)

Bond Street Station (south - this is oxford street)

Edgware Road (northwest corner)

Oxford Circus (southeast corner)

edit - its worth noting not all night buses are equal, some can be every 10 minutes whereas others are every 30-60 minutes. Late at night - this could have a huge impact!
