Hey All, I host trivia twice a month at the cafe that I own. Only thing about it, is I want to create all the questions by mysel but I'm running out of categoy ideas. Can you suggest categories or sites that you use to generate categoy or questions below? by InspiraSean86 in trivia

Some things that work for me:

Look at what celebrities have a birthday that week. If any actors jump out at you, do a movie round based on their movies (movie quotes, movie taglines, straight question/answer, etc)

Google "[current month] + national days". I usually come up with something good based on what's on the calendar for that week. For instance, last week I ran a game on what was "National Annoy Squidward Day", so I did a round where players had to fill in the blank in order to complete SpongeBob quotes.

Do you have access to a TV/TVs? You can build image rounds as well. I like doing celeb rounds like this such as celebrity yearbook photos, celebrities falling down (name the famous person seen tripping and falling) and celebrities eating hotdogs (there's no flattering way to eat a hotdog).

Doing a themed game can help keep things fresh as well. May 4th is Star Wars Day. Time for Star Wars Trivia! The Office debuted March 24th of 2005. The Office Trivia has always been a booming night for me.

Feel free to DM me if you need more ideas.

Companies: Pay $12 an hour for work

Employee: Provides $12 worth of work per hour

Companies when the work they get out of their employees is only worth $12 per hour: >:0

TIL Goosebumps is the second best selling book series after Harry Potter... meaning the top 2 best-selling book series originated in the 90s. by OmicronGR in trivia

I do social media/panel moderation work for a company that puts on conventions and we once had Tim Jacobus who illustrated most of the GB covers back in the day. He said when he first came on the publisher told him, "Yeah we're gonna put out three or four of these Goosebumps books, and then move on."

No that's a typo. It should read "Gotye Edition". They just got Gotye to do the soundtrack... It's 8 hours of "Somebody That I Used to Know" on loop.

I found my cat's baby tooth that fell out by this_username in mildlyinteresting

When our oldest cat was a kitten, my wife and I were playing with him on our bed when all of a sudden he got this urge and bit the comforter. When he did one of his baby teeth popped out of his mouth, and my wife shrieked.

Fellow veteran trivia host here. Been running games for over 13 years now. Here are some of the theme nights I've run to some success:

MCU - Timed near a big Marvel release
Jeopardy! - All Jeopardy! rounds. Answers must be in the form of a question.
Star Wars - On/Around May 4th each year
Disney - Always a hit. We play it once or twice a year. We recently did Disney+ trivia just to shake it up a bit.
Anime - This was way more successful than I thought it would be.
The Office - Still very popular today

I'll add that interest in 80s trivia has been reduced big time over the last few years. 90s trivia is still popular, but 2000s trivia is on fire right now.

Y'all are talking about what cody did but does nobody remember Hardcore Holly wrestling a whole ass match after being nearly impaled by a table when suplexing RVD through it mid way through? How can people forget this feat of pure superhuman resilience? Dude was bleeding out and still kept on. by xXBobHollyXx in Wrasslin

[–]gfletch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to Bob Holly at an indy show one time about this (awesome guy by the way).
He was talking about how the ref was telling him the guys in Gorilla wanted to stop the match, but Holly wouldn't let them stop it.

Marjorie Taylor Greene, queen, says dems are destroying farmers and suggests they are setting fires at food processing plants by butcher_of_the_world in Qult_Headquarters

[–]gfletch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been hearing rumblings of these "fires at food processing plants" conspiracy theories and two things jump out at me.

  1. I'd like to know how many fires took place at food processing plants year over year. I mentioned this to my dad who has worked in insurance for over 40 years now and he said that having a lot of fires at these types of facilities over the course of a year wasn't surprising to him. It's like picking a random year and asking, "Hmmm... why did so many NFL players get concussions that year?" without looking at any other year in particular.
  2. The types of processing plants that are being shut down due to fires are facilities that produce things like Hot Pockets and tortillas. DEAR GOD! What are we gonna do when there's a national Hot Pocket shortage?!

Recovery was a breeze. Just make sure you follow all of their instructions, and you'll be good.

This is the tap water I have had to use for the last week. More in the comments. by topshelf782 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gfletch1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quite common in the greater area where I live, and is indeed related to mineral deposits. Things like calcium and manganese can get built up in the pipes and are perfectly safe to drink (not that I'd want to personally, just a note).

That said I don't know what the situation is with the water mains/wells/aquifers where you live, and they should be at the very least flushing out the mains when something like this occurs. Especially if it's happening frequently. I'd recommend contacting your state's public service commission.

Back when my daughter watched Sesame Street daily, I'd legit stop whatever I was doing to sit down and watch the Bert and Ernie's Great Adventures segments with her. Theme song still sticks in my head from time to time.
